I happened across a single blossom in a large field. It's colors, bright and striking, paled everything around it. It's complexity, deep and beautiful, revealed everything else to be dull and boring. I sat to study the blossom and was filled with admiration. I wondered what it smelled like, what it felt like. I leaned forward, but before I could inhale the fragrance, I recoiled as it began to float away. Concern and regret began to fill me until the flower landed again, further from me. I held my breath, keeping my distance as I began to admire once more. Hours and days past as I was mesmerized by this marvel, until I suddenly realized it was extremely close again. Had I moved? Or had it? I was compelled to reach for it again, to gently caress it, but as my hand touched it, it suddenly vanished. I sat back, shocked, and as I looked around, I noticed the world was dull and boring. I fear I'll never see beauty, such as that, again.

Beautiful words. Very poignant!
