The background?

Which is true. But Obama supporters are really tired of the same old same old. They're tired of people taking baby steps or moving only in a slightly different direction. Sometimes you need to vote in someone who you believe will be fresh, new and different if for no other reason than to tell all the people who want to do business as usual that you're not going to let them keep doing business as usual...because business as usual has only been good for them, not you.

One bit of business as usual that I'm most tired of: those who don't act like they're working for the people of the United States. Who act as if they, as president, or whoever, don't have to answer for their actions to anyone. As if they can do whatever they like without a single thought of the long-term consequences on those who are paying the bills. I want someone who will be accountable, and who will say, "I work for all of you, you don't work for me." And I think Obama is saying that.

It is with the hope of that that I'll vote for Obama (rather than Eleanor Roosevelt, as I sometimes do). But it's mostly from a "better than the alternative" view. What Obama says and what he'll do are two different things (just remains to be seen how different). I've worked inside government; I'm not all that starry-eyed about what those who have done practically nothing of the creation and implemenation of law (read, Obama here) say they are going to do. The last national politician I believed could do what he said he'd do was LBJ--and that was because he knew exactly how to get it done--and, at least in domestic policy, what actually could be done. (I just didn't agree with everything he wanted to do).

Oh, for the love of Humanity, people! DP has questions. He posed those questions and opened them for discussion. DISCUSSION!

This isn't a discussion. It's an attack.

Yes, I believe the research in the email is suspect, even nearly non-existent. A discussion on why, and where to find valid answers was in order. I see little discussion.

When others came in with a few questions to add, they were attacked as well. Wouldn't it serve a better purpose to try to educate instead of insult?

This behavior is completely unwarranted. Sorry, but I just had to say something. It's disappointing and the reason I stay away from such threads.

Thank you Molly, between you and DG we finally have some discussion. The rest can't handle any questions about the Prophet Obama. They react like the Germans in the 30's.
Must follow the Prophet Obama. (while in zombie trance).
It's enough to make congress look intelligent.

Sweetie, you know I love you, but you're doing the same thing. Play nice, love.

Indeed.

Obama is certainly better than the alternative. I pity those who haven't gleaned a bit of information from the past eight years.

What bothers me so much at present are the vicious attempts being made to discredit Obama. Emails, talking points, town hall meetings where supporters scream "terrorist" and "kill him!" What in the hell is that about?

Zoot said it best in a different thread about the hate and fear mongering tactics.

Can't McCain win it on his experience? His war record? His solid political career? His voting record?

No?

How about the absentee ballot in New York where the candidates were called Barack Osama and John McCain. http://www.huliq.com/3257/70413/barack-osama-appears-absentee-ballots-accident-or-not Innocent mistake?

I'm weary.

I hope enough other voters are also weary of the nonsense, the hate emails filled with misinformation and the attempts to create fear and instead hunt for the substance beneath the hype.

It isn't that we don't want to debate, DG, it's that we already have. Time and time again.

An email link is tossed up, the fact check article is located in Snopes or elsewhere, much or all of the email is uncovered as misleading or outright lies, and still the thread starter refuses to believe an unbiased source.

We get nowhere. There is no discussion.

It will be over soon.

Where's Mike Godwin when ya need him...?

Just for fun, take this test...
I posted this on my humor thread; don't know if a lot of you saw it. It's 13 questions with each Obama and McCain giving their answers. There are no right or wrong answers. You just click the answer you agree with more. You won't know which candidate gave which answer. At the end it will tell you which candidate you agree with more. Be honest with yourself; no-one else will see or know your answers.

ABC has a test at the link below to see who's campaign
statements you agree with most, McCain or Obama. They
don't tell you who made the statements, of course, but a
statement made by each candidate on the same topic (economy,
immigration, judiciary, etc.) will be side by side. You just
pick which statement you agree with. After selecting all 13,
you'll find out which candidate's philosophy you
support. No tricks are involved, just carefully read the
statements before making your choice.

Anytime! I love to play
Not to be a pervert, but I have to say, I haven't seen a bad picture in your A/V. Some of the sexist that I have seen. I would play blocks or any other game with you anytime.
Thank you for making an old man smile. :)
DG:heart:

Pirate won't mind me putting this on his thread. I believe he likes the A/V's too. :D

It's interesting, DG, but it isn't factual.

It is the candidate's statements alone, some of which are misleading or inaccurate. They're saying all sorts of things. Doesn't mean it's going to happen, doesn't mean they actually believe the political rhetoric they're spewing.

I'd be more interested in a different sort of thing, perhaps something that uses voting record stats. Something that shows their real record.

:)

I agree Sweet Sarahh, I didn't write it ABC did. I thought it would be a nice little change from all the bickering, not to start another debate. Right or wrong, hell I don't know but I enjoyed taking it.

With these sheep? Why?
Oh I forgot, we can't question the prophet Obama.

STOP IT.

I'm not quoting word for word from an email.
I'm not repeating talking points.
I'm not getting all of my news from a completely biased source.

I don't blindly choose to vote for Obama - far from it. I've done more research this presidential election than any other time in my life.

How dare you insult my intelligence? I chose purposefully, after listening, reading, thinking, worrying and more reading -

Damn it, I'm getting tired of this.

So you want higher taxes? everytime a Dem says he will raises taxes on the rich mine go up and I make less that $50K and it's been like that for 36 years.
So you want gun ownership crippled? Look at his record.

He has never led a Boy Scout group out of a back yard and he's qualified to be President?

There is enough right there to mean I will never vote for him because I don't trust him to do anything but cater to the far left.

He is extreme and that is extremely wrong.

I believe you are misinformed.

And further argument is pointless.

You don't seem to have a grasp of what "the far left" really is.

Sweetie - we are already IN a very expensive cluster fuck.

Have you read what Obama has said or have you merely relied on the talking points?

Try Fact check or snopes. Read the record. The real record.

Having said that, I know that you will not bother to do so. A shame.

So I repeat - further discussion is pointless.

How about questioning the politician and presidential candidate Obama?

You know, like, relevant stuff. Policies. Political statements. Ideology.

I'm sure the "sheep" here will be more than happy to have a substantial discussion about that, instead of vauge conspiratory assumptons about his pakistani college roomates or whatever the hell that was.

It's classic FUD bullshit, and nothing but FUD bullshit. The same way, by the way, that biyatching about McCain's crashed jetplanes and romps with brazillian beauty queens is just as much FUD bullshit.

How about looking at both candidates, examining their political platforms, and then discuss which one will take your country in the direction you prefer?

Everything else is a pathethic, borderline insane, feeble-minded vortex-of-suckage farce.

On both sides.

I know exactly what that Thundering Herd of Dumbass in Washington will do to any idea. :D
cynic - (noun) experienced

I have looked at the record when he actually voted on things, Present doesn't count.

The current economic problems started in 95 and Freddie and Fannie were run by Clintons people till 04. The Dems on the banking committees blocked any restriction on that system in 05.

He is not trustworthy.
