The Avengers.

Iron Man 3 is in the works, Thor 2 will be out in just over a year I think. Captain America 2 is also being made. I know they planned a 2nd Hulk before Avengers but I've read that Norton was too demanding and wanted too much control so they scrapped it before filming.

Thor sucked. I've never read the comic, but the movie plot was really lame and predictable. They left just enough Norse mythology in to make it predictable, but they also changed it enough to butcher it. Very few superhero movies are good, in my opinion.

I'm not a comic book dork but I really liked all of those movies with Thor being my least favorite.

It didn't suck but it wasn't good either. Nowhere near the level of Iron Man or Captain America. Too much set up and not nearly enough payoff and kinda silly to begin with. I never bought that whole demi-god as a superhero thing.

Iron Man 2 left something to be desired but was still fun. I think they were maybe trying too hard. I like Sam Rockwell but hated him in that movie. Terrible villain. I've heard the comic version is better but there's no going back.

It's not the worst thing I've ever seen, but it was pretty lame. At any rate, I don't see how a sequel could be any good at all. Gods definitely make shitty superheroes, except for Ganesh. A six-armed guy with an elephant head could be nothing short of incredible. I guess they can't use Hindu stuff, since people still believe in that, but it sure would be cool.

I enjoyed Iron Man. Not so much Captain America, but it was alright. Robert Downey Jr. made a good almost antihero.

The Avengers was wonderful! I can't wait to see it at home so I can really jump into it with both feet in the comfort of my home theater, with no pants on.

I was overjoyed that Marvel got it together to produce their own flicks and brought in Joss, whom I love dearly, and gave everyone a moment to shine. If anything I think Joss was holding back on the human drama, and also the humor. But fuck it....now the un-initiated know what's up.

As for the lead-in movies, Iron man was flat. Enjoyable but not much going on. They had a shell of a shooting script and it showed. The second one missed the boat on showing how fragile Tony was without the suit. That Formula 1 scene would have been milked for a lot more if I had been able to wiggle my nose and inform it a little bit. I thought the second one was a better built flick though, if not as enjoyable. Leslie Bibb is tits.

**SPOILERS**
highlight to see...
Captain America was great! The only bit I still scratch my head about was why he had to crash the plane and die. It seemed like if he could drive it into the ice, he could have crash-landed it and walked away. Even though it's a big deal, the flick earned so much credit with me that I can let it slide. I'm THRILLED Joe Johnston is back!

**END SPOILERS**

I thought Thor was super! A humbled boy-god who learns the value of life and self-sacrifice. Great set design and great cinematography. Hans Zambarloukos did a great job of making those awful costumes look great in natural light.

Ang Lee's HULK was better than anyone gives it credit for, the Ed Norton one was an abortion.

of course it was silly. it was fucking thor. have you ever read the comics? that's some seriously silly shit. they actually toned it down quite a bit because thor in the comics has the tendency to talk like a total wang like all the fucking time. the fact that the movie was even bearable is a testament to it's greatness. it could have easily been an excruciatingly bad film because of the subject matter alone.

and serious props to the captain america dude. i hated that douche as johnny storm, but he total pulls off steve rogers without making him to cartoony. i almost didn't watch the movie because i hated him in ff so much. of course, both ff movies were just terrible, but whatever. good job, douchebag.

I've heard a lot of people who hadn't read the comic were confused. Because they expected it to be the mythological Asguardians and not aliens and whatnot. I agree they didn't do enough in the movie to even begin to establish their universe. I don't think I would have liked it were I not already a fan. The kind of... background of everything wasn't defined well enough. I don't really know how to explain it, but yeah, I totally agree.

I watched The Avengers last night. Great, fun flick. Joss Whedon and a big budget, was always gonna be great. I liked Iron Man, both of them. Cap Am not so much.

The Avengers movie made me fall in love with Bruce Banner, previously I hadn't cared for him at all.

It wasn't until I watched the Disney show Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, that I appreciated the hulk as a character.

I also fell in love with Wasp as a character because of Earth's Mightiest Heroes. I still have a Hatred of Antman though. Hank Pym just makes me want to punch him.

Ever read any of the comics at all? You'll hate Hank Pym even more when you see what the Hank & Jan marriage was really like...

...and you'll hate the writers for the constant reconciliation bullshit, too...

Okey-doke.

Here's the role of all Earth-connected human-looking "gods" in the Marvel Universe (and possibly other comic book company canons): they are not invincible immortal ethereal mystic forces beyond nature, but supremely powerful, long-lived beings with abilities beyond mortal ken who used to be worshipped as gods by lesser advanced humans (and other races in the universe) back in the day.

Now, during these "modern" times, with the accumulation of tech advances, X-factor mutations, ancient lore and grimoire mastering, these former "gods" can be hit and compromised if you a) have enough power and b) know where to hit them. This is one of the cornerstones of deux ex machina comic book writing structure.

You don't have to tell people who've read or are reading comic books this, they already got how things work. If you make a movie about it, though, you gotta change up the game a bit for the layperson. Thor worked and was surprisingly good because of the fact that they took a chance on an iconic character based off of mythology that worked better in the comics in an ensemble, gave you the whole background with roots and all, made it a significant part of the gradually assembling Avengers Part One arc and topped it all off with excellent casting along with writing that was better than it deserved. When you make something work despite it's weaknesses and the under-expectations it brings to the table, you gotta give it props. Like with the first Iron Man, people were laughing at the trailer initially, but the laughter stopped cuz the seats were being filled.

There's a handful of things wrong with the flick that they glossed over, but they were negligible. Only thing I didn't really keen on was Natalie Portman. Or maybe her character. Something just didn't click all the way. I'm not sure if Portman is returning, but apparently Kat Dennings' character is going to have a more significant presence in the second joint. Like Cap, I wouldn't sleep on this one, either. Thanks to Whedon's up-jumping the benchmark, there's no more wiggle room for half-assing the delivery.

I have read the comics actually, and that's why I hate Antman.

I finally got around to seeing it and it was ok. Better than I expected and Loki was the main reason I bothered. I hate ultimates stuff with a burning passion so I'm mad i didn't get the real Hawkeye I want him in his silly purple costume. I'm also upset by the lack of Wasp and Ant Man/Giant Man.

I hope they have the good sense to milk The Avengers franchise for all its worth there's so many members even if actors bail out to do other projects members come and go. I would love to see Vision and Moon Knight.
