The Author's Hangout Valentine's Day 2012 Support Thread

I hope the AH Earth Day thread gets made soon.

Does this contest have to specifically reference Earth Day? Or are the themes of nature and outdoors enough? Envirmentalism count?

Earth Day doesn't have to be mentioned, but it would probably be a plus. Mentioning nature and outdoors might not be enough, but Environmentalism would be.

Felt another small sweep go through my stories again today. All five stories were hit. Makes for more excitement. Always did like rollercoasters.

Well, I finally saw the first change in my stats, aside from number of views. I guess it's from the sweeps. I don't if it's consider inappropriate to post the numbers on the thread, so I'll keep it general.

My score has been tracking slightly above the average and median posted by Dark and after stalling at the same number for the last week or so, it suddenly bumped up .02. My score remains below the magic 4.50 needed to be marked as HOT and I don't think I'm close to the leaders.

I haven't paid much attention to my number of votes, aside from noticing that I seem to track above the average and the median, so that makes me feel good. Though I realize I'm in a popular category for Lit.

As for the total views, for a long while, I seemed to be running at roughly 10% of the reported totals. While the raw number has continued to climb, my percent of the total has been cut nearly in half.

It's my first post in the Incest category and while I told the story I wanted to tell, I did through in a bit of everything with a sister cross-dressing and "forcing" her brother to go bi. I've received just 8 comments - remarkably, all of them very nice (WOOT!). And that story has been favorited by 11 kinksters.

All in all, I think I'm satisfied with how it's doing as both a first time Incest story and a first ever contest entry.

There's nothing stopping you from posting your numbers, if you choose. It's always been common at the end of the contest ( despite claims by delusional trolls to the contrary... all you have to do is look up the threads and see he's full of it )

The only problem with it is that trolls use such postings as a road map to bomb the living hell out of you. Giving them exact numbers lets them do the math and figure out exactly how many of what score they need to hit you with to bring you down to where they want your score to be. Most of them are too lazy to look up the numbers like I do, unless they have a specific hate-on for you. So, the lazy bastards just use whatever anyone else will give them.

Which is exactly why I don't post individual numbers until after the winner's announcement.

And here's tonight's track.

One last story popping in brings us up to 85.

The average score is now 4.22 with a median of 4.30

The average vote total is now 241 with a median of 175 and a total of 19,246

Seeing enough sweeps to start posting those numbers, so the average number of swept votes is 4 with a median of 0 and a total of 326.

Many stories haven't been swept, or the sweeps haven't shown up, so those averages are quite low. The toplists where I gather vote totals only update every 24 hours, so all I can see is the change between days. Usually, if you watch your own numbers, you will see more votes swept than I'll be able to report.

The average number of views is 12,057 with a median of 8,292 and a total of 1,012,761

The average number of favs is 5 with a median of 3 and a total of 438

The average number of PCs is 8 with a median of 5 and a total of 700

If no new stories post tomorrow, I'll begin looking at updating views, PCs, and favs for all stories. It will probably depend upon how long my day at work is *laugh*

Regardless, I'll update them all at the end of the contest, in order to come up with final numbers.

I took your advice and read the winning stories from last year's Earth Day contest, and plot bunnies are being born as we speak. Yay!

Hmph. So why do your lovely sweeps take away my high votes and not the 1-bombs?!

*sigh*

I know I know...some highly technical answer about someone voting without spending sufficient time on each page and bla bla...

(Sorry. Having a moan. I don't do it often.)

Maybe it's time they considered varying the themes?

Earth Day is particularly tricky, though I rather fancy writing about shagging golems.

Earth day isn't that hard for me. Nude Day is much more difficult. The very point of that day is divorcing nudity from the sexual. You're almost going off theme in the narrowest definition of "theme" by having sex in the story.

All you need for Earth Day to nail it is an underlying conservation/recycling/activism theme.

Wot - as in Buggered Behind the (Recycling) Bins?

I guess you are right about Nude Day. I forgot that one, probably because it's the one themed contest I've never tried entering. I've taken part in a nude event - the Naked Bike Ride (and the inspiration behind my avatar on here) - and part of the joy of it was the sheer freedom of behing naked without the sexual connotations. It's an experience I'd never write a smutty story about as it would sully the memories.

So I'll need to find some other way to link nudity that doesn't initially have a sexual intent with actual sex.

You're probably right, Dark, as far as true nudists are concerned. >sigh< "The human body is nature thing. We shouldn't be ashamed of it. Being naked doesn't have to be sexual. We were all born naked. Blah, blah, blah."

Maybe, someone predisposed to their ideas might be persuaded, but I think we all know why Nude Day gets any press: for the unenlightened of us who can't dismiss our prurient interests.

Somewhere, somehow, I believe there's L. Ron Hubbard of Nudism who sits back and laughs at his disciples singing the praises of non-sexual nudity while he struggles to hide a hard-on.

But hey, that's just jilted ol' me. YMMV. :D

We are all born naked, true. But we were all also born covered in bloody goop. Does that make it OK to dance about the streets covered in afterbirth?

Some of us were born covered in hair (lanugo - Oops! I haven't changed much, have I?) and with a caul. Apparently the caul means that I can't drown. I haven't tested that recently.

OK, I had to check those on Wikipedia.

Seems lanugo fur is a stage we all go through in the womb but is shed and the most common cause of a baby being born still with this fine down is them being born prematurely. May I ask if that the case?

Not for me. I was a week late.

My mother and the midwife wouldn't have described it as 'fine down', more like 'Bloody Hell! It's an ape/gorilla!". Apparently it was thick black hair over my whole body and face. It shed naturally over the first few days but the family refused to take any photos until it had gone.

Damn! I'd have been snapping like crazy to make sure I had a good stock of photos to embarass the you in front of your first serious take-home-to-meet-the-parents girlfriend!

It was wartime. Film stock for photos was very difficult to get. From 1940 to 1945 the family album only has about a dozen pictures (including a couple of me).

Ah, yes I suppose so. Too used to being able to take photos whenever I want. (Even before digital I got through rolls rather fast.)

I'd advise against any tests. Just sayin':D

I tested myself against drowning enough times when younger - rowing in eights and a surf lifeboat; sailing small dinghies in dangerous conditions; canoeing; free-diving etc...

I went canoeing once. We got caught in a whirlpool, lost a paddle, hit a tree and then got flipped out. Great experience.

So as we await the big day I have something amusing to share.

My story is very different from the rest of my work. I have had a few people say they loved it and can;t wait to read my other stories.

I'm like ummm.....

Sure enough a bunch of people faved me then within a couple of days three kicked me off. I can just picture them going from my attempt at romance to one of my incest stories or some of my BDSM work. It''s like "surprise!"

Does the etc. bit include muff diving? ;)

Muff diving can be dangerous but I don't think there is much danger of drowning.

Free diving for octopus, squid and grouper; free diving exploring WWII wrecks; there could be a risk of drowning. Obviously I didn't.

You awful tease you. Misleading them like that. ;)

In my defense. My opening authors note read "for those who know me, this story is about as different from my other work as it could be."

Then again, that did nothing for those who don't know me.

Oh, well can't please them all.
