The Author's Hangout Valentine's Day 2012 Support Thread

Welcome to the official Author's Hangout Valentine's Day 2012 Support Thread.

Do no except a substitute or a fake.

So last year, in my Valentine's Day story The Relationship Business, I wrote about a group that kind of "runs" Valentine's Day. I did this for fun, to get away from the flowers-chocolates-etc.

Is there something slightly unusual or off-center you'd like to see in a V-day story? Or that you've written? Let's try to brainstorm. :)

I've already used a butt plug with a heart shaped head. Where do you go from there? :D

I entered one year with a story of Saint Valentine and took the historical route; this year I gave a sample of a scene for my 2012 entry over on another thread and I'm working from a mythological standpoint.

Well, that's why we're brainstorming. :)

Yes and it is a very good idea. I was giving an example of just how far out you can get and still place in the contest. Thinking outside the box has advantages as it makes the reader think and remember the story. It also makes them vote and comment. Always good things.

My V-day entry has my male protagonist getting dumped on the big day. His fun begins with an online dating misadventure.

Got slapped in the face with a plot bunny this morning here at Lit. 3700 words later, it is finished and in the bag. The only problem is it leaves things open for several hundred more chapters to be added. I normally don't do chapters.

Maybe I should have given it to Red as a chain story.

Just making sure the real thread is up here and visible, since the delusional one is once again posting fake "rules" to confuse newcomers who might not know any better.

Just got one of my stories back from the editor and made my corrections. It's now ready to go. Should be a fun contest.
DG Hear:)

That is one of the highest compliments I've ever received - thank you.

Just checking in. I have a story started, have a direction to go in, but am having health problems: ongoing, unexplained dizziness, palpitations, nausea - going on month and a half now that are unrelated to my usual stuff. Have specialist appointments and tests coming up. The antivert (anti-dizzy/nausea/motion sickness) medicine keeps it at bay for a few hours, but then it slams me when it wears off and is just a band-aid. I keep hoping I'll wake up and it will be gone and I'll finally be able to step off this merry-go-round. Feeling bummed out. Have barely gotten my 100 word flash fictions (on my blog) written and trying to keep up with the writerly social networking, but I'm just wiped out and fed up. Sorry for venting a little. Miss this place and all of you!

I hope all of your stories are coming along well and you're recovering from the holiday season.

Happy New Year, Luna, or at least I hope it will be soon. I'll send positive thoughts your way, but after I'm done cleaning, so they aren't dusty. :)

I'll have to send you a copy to look over. I don't think I have an e-mail addy for you. I know i don't on this computer.

Sorry to hear about the problems. Hope they are cleared up soonest. Good vibs headed your way. :rose:

Lets try this again in the right thread this time.

"How does one write about Valentine's Day when one doesn't celebrate it?"

That's my challenge, the gauntlet set forth by my Better Half.

Valentines is a day of romance, hearts, flowers, chocolate. A day to tell your love you love her all over again.

So what's the problem? Jump in with both feet. What would you do to prove your undying love to the lady in your life?

I thought I should post this over here also to go with Pennlady's brainstorming idea.

ETA: Oh. Shit. I just slapped myself in the face with a plot bunny and a half.

Top half, bottom half, or left or right half? ;)

I have sort of an idea that could be adapted for Valentine's Day, but finding time will be the trick. Just need to finish R&B, but I need time for that too.

The troll is at it again

Please note that this thread is the official support thread for the Lit Valentine's Contest. The thread referring to an "A.I.R." contest has nothing to do with Lit, and any "rules" posted there are pointless to the real contest.

Shortly, Laurel will post a sticky post that contains the full, official rules. It will be at the top of this forum section ( The Authors' Hangout ) and replace the current Winter Holidays Contest thread.

As to me, I started on one. Still giving priority to my ongoing stories, but I at least got down enough to start and a set of notes so that I don't forget anything I've mused about it.

Luna, You have my thoughts and prayers. Get well soon!

It's official! Laurel has posted a sticky note at the top of the AH Forum. Best of luck to all who enter.

Hopefully going to start mine today, before I get sucked into 7 hours of football.

I have my bunny, but unsure on category. Taking my shot at something fairly "sweet" and I suppose it could go into Romance(wouldn't seeing my name in the romance section make people do a double take) But the woman is early forties and the guy around 21 so Mature might be better.

I'll worry about writing it for now, and then see what some of the more experienced authors chime in with.

Good luck to everyone entering!

The mature crowd is a pretty good group and not a lot of trolling. May-December is a common theme.

Good luck
