So...I'm really insulted that I wasn't insulted in the above list of disqualified stories for that "other" contest! LOL WTF?? It's better to be hated than ignored! Always remember that! CAN anyone see me????

Not formally. But you can check them (only one by one, though) much more easily now thanks to the most recent site services upgrade. Now you can go to an author's story list and a rating (current as of a few hours previously) is listed by each story. You can't find out the number of votes most of the stories have, though. Only the author can see this on his/her submission page. If the story is being listed on one of the "top" lists, though (rating and views), you can see home votes it has gotten (again on a delayed basis).

Is there some sort of formula to determine who wins, which incorporates both the number of votes, and the average score? Otherwise I can imagine a scenario where someone enters at the last minute, gets one vote for 5.0, and wins.

They have to have a minimum of 25 votes to be a valid entry. Once the story has ten votes, the rating is visible, and gets bombed. Many of us reach ten votes with a perfect 5.00. It doesn't last.

However, it is possible to be a sure-fire winner of the Authors' Hangout Last Place (tm) Contest - by getting no votes at all. My patent formula for votes less than 25 (Actual Rating divided by 25 and multiplied by actual number of votes) will always equal 0.00 if there were no votes.

Rejected story - a crosspost

I'm not venting or mad about it, just noting that one of my Crew stories was rejected because it used a copyrighted character, Mrs. Emma Peel of The Avengers.

If you are a fan of The Crew and especially of Cat, I can e-mail you a copy of the story. I'd like to hear what you think about it.

It is not a Hallowe'en story.

I checked my story earlier today... 24 votes, score of 4.50

Just checked it again, 24 votes still, but the score is now 4.58

Que pasa? I'm getting points from someone who doesn't exist? I hope whatever glitch caused the sudden boost doesn't get me disqualified (although I'm sure there would be many stories with a much higher score).

I suspect that this is just some discrepency where the number of voters has risen, but the LE servers just haven't tallied it yet.

Happened to me last contest. I think it's explained away as they swept a load of troll votes (hence the rise) but there were an equal number of new votes.

I don't really believe it either, but...

My story has just dropped a whole bunch from 4.76 to 4.69 overnight with a rise in votes as well. I'm beginning to learn these things happen.

All these people have a million comments, and I get like 3 or 4 or 6. Max.
It's not like my stories suck, lol, I have a good number of reads, and decent scores.

Most readers want to just read the story and be on their way. That's why there are so many more reads than votes. Most of the time comments are left if there is some different of opinion or stiring of emotion.

I've also found out that if a story is submitted in chapters, there is even less comments. I do get some comments through the feedback system insted of the open forum.

So, what you get is quite normal. Hope this helps.

Oh don’t worry mr step up, you’re story will certainly be disqualified. And for multiple transgressions – ugly AV, category selection, writing imperfections, etc. But the jury didn’t even have to get that far.
