The Authors' Hangout 2010 Halloween Contest Support Thread

Sr,

SEVEN?! Holy crow! Thanks for your explanation. I can see where it might be safer and more lucrative. But confuzzling as well! How do you keep them all straight: espeically when it comes to readers/fans/feedback? So, does anyone know the true you?

In the mainstream, most comment doesn't come direct. It comes through your publisher or agent.

In e-booked erotica--and postings to other story Web sites--I do have some trouble. I think there's a similar thread around here somewhere on the confusing of e-mails, but, as all e-mailed response comes into one e-mail account, I sometimes have to wonder or ask which work/author someone is commenting on if they don't identify it off the top.

No real problem in my different writing accounts here on Lit. All of the accounts and e-mail accounts are separate. I just sometimes don't check the ones other than the sr71plt one here very often and get some of the comments/quetions quite belatedly.

I don't have any trouble remembering what author is writing what. The genre of what is being written automatically connects it to the pen name. In the straight areas, one author writes cozies and romances and sticks to novellas; another one writes historical dramas in full novel length; yet another writes espionage thrillers. Not too hard to keep those separate.

WOOO!:D

After focusing and pouring a lot of effort in over the last few days (something I probably should've done weeks ago:rolleyes:) I finally finished my entry! Because it took so long, it mightn't even make it in to the contest, but I'm still proud I finished before the 22nd!

I feel a little guilty lumping the admins with a 34k-word story just a couple days before the contest end, but I am really happy that I finished it!

High five, anyone? :nana:

*high five Myth* Glad you got it done before the deadline :) I hope it does make it and good luck!

OH! I've been editing my stories, now that I know how to do it. I just edited "Strawberry Delight", adding more substance to it. After first posting that one, years ago, something was missing. Duh! For one, it was too short and two it needed more heart. I hope I did it justice. Once it goes up, I would love for some feedback, especially if you have read the original version (which isn't so great). Thanks!

~Strawberry Delight I'll let you know when the new edit goes up.

Copyrights?

I saw on Google that the story I submitted is now up on another website, orz8.appspot.com. I am wary of this site, because it began running some weird script right away and I logged off. Do they have permission to reproduce material from Literotica?

I don't believe anybody has permission to reproduce material from Lit., except maybe "Ask Jolene," which seems to have some kind of arrangement whereby they post links to Literotica stories and give credit to the authors.

I got to wondering if I might have been pirated in the same way. I yahooed a little and found a site that has three of my stories that never asked my permission to re-publish them.
This is the site:

Is there anything I can do about this?

AlwaysHungry, good call!

My 2nd submission was based on a story told among the employees where i was training for my 'real job' more then a decade ago.

It was a story that made the hair on the back of my neck stand up, but involved (involves?) a child who died and whose spirit has reportedly sat vigil with subsequent patients. Needless to say, no sex involved.

BUT... this is an erotica site, so the trick was how to work a story with at least some sex into the basic frame of a residual spirit. I figured having her climb onto the gurney and ride our 'death's door' protagonist like he was Ron Jeremy in a by the hour hotel would ring implausible, BUT have heard, and after a beer or two, will admit to first hand knowledge of less overt intimacies that do go on in hospitals.

So I'm guilty as charged, I slipped a little sex into a story, just thought it was more seamless than you noted. Guess I'll have to keep traying, eh? Anyway, I appreciated the comment and the criticism.

My questions... since I don't want to be critical are for SR71 and andtheend, and ... well, I'll get to my last question in a minute.

SR71/ andtheend... I have read stories from BOTH of you that I like. I don't understand the animosity both of you are showing the other. Isn't any reaction in the negative giving your antagonist more power over your own life and world then you would choose, thinking rationally? The mindless 'horrible' with no other comment notes on stories, or the gigs about a story's pov or topic or characters or action when the basis of the story was made plain at the outset by category seem so absenct of merit or worth I ignore them... I confess this thread... hell, the board in general have been more interesting than the stories this month for me... but the bickering and fighting and name calling i don't understand. I'm not going to meet any of you... i'm not going to make any money on the pieces i submit here for practice and constructive criticism. i'll confess, it's been fun trying to ape other author's pieces when they've asked for others to submit stories, but unless i'm missing something you two seem bent on saying mean things that don't benefit you at all, and i respect some of the works you've submitted too much not to say i think you're BOTH better than what's going on... Unless i'm missing someting and it's a lover's spat or collaborators workign to increase attention for both...

Ouch, I'm running long (as always) and have another question...
Tex... your posts keep saying Except no substitute... I risk sounding like Inigo Montoya, but I am not sure you know what that means... or more accurately, do you mean, 'Accept no substitute?' It's made me scrath my head every time I read it this month.

In any case, luck to all, it's been fun actually submitting but as much fun reading others' work, including in several genre i don't often read.

outside publication of stories...

i have posted prior studies elsewhere (Dark Wanderer and StoriesOnline to plug others who were willing to put my work up online), many duplicated, and in part following the work of other authors I've enjoyed reading (JPB, nod to you).

Periodically I google the story titles... There are usually a couple 'loosely related' sites that have them. So far they've always been credited and have not been edited. That said, if it means more people read and enjoy the stories i don't have a big issue with it, BUT if the sites are charging or if they are changing the story or taking credit for something they did not do i would be opposed... i doubt there is much i could do, though. i've tried to look at it as flattering.

RogueAlan,

What the heck!? I commented and voted on ICU Angel, and it too, disappeared. *Growls* Anyway, I'll have to repost. I enjoyed your story and the multi-layers of it. Now, unless Hope was sucking off and riding every patient that came into that room, that would technically make her an active/earthbound spirit, rather than residual. I have a little bit of experience with that. I hope the child was in fact residual and not earthbound, because that just makes my heart sad.

The story was steamy and I thought you worked it nicely. True about the shenanigans at hospitals, though.

OH and great Princess Bride reference! *beams*

It's a commercial site and they didn't ask my permission, and I'm PISSED!

Bebeslut,

That would piss me off too! I just check, so far my stories haven't been placed elsewhere. I wonder who you would contact about that, other than the culprits. Ugh! Sorry!

poaching for profit

Bebe,

apologies, i hadn't realized we were talking a pay site... agree that SUCKS! i'd be pissed as well. Unless LitErotica has it's own legal powers to send 'cease and desist' notations, though, i fear you are jousting at the proverbial windmill. So duck and weave, keep the tip up (read, i hope there is a way you can skewer them... using other people's work to make money without owning up and sharing the wealth sucks whether it's business, music, or the written word.

This site was noted for having stolen a lot of stories, and very amateurishly as well. In many cases they didn't even steal the whole story, just the first page. Doh! Got several of mine as well, including the late chapters in ongoing series. The guys a dolt.

They've been reported to the powers that be. If you want you can go to the site and leave nasty comments, and try to hunt down the host, and let them know they are thieving bastards. Unfortunately it's Google, and they don't seem to care.

:p On a different note... the vitriol is running high on here, makes for some interesting reading.

The stories are an odd mix this time, some very good, some so-so, but there's still a few days for the odd masterpiece or two to get posted. I haven't read any in the last few days, and haven't commented on all I've read, still trying to get one story that's vexing me completed. I did want to mention:

~Enlightened By Darkness~ - by LunaEroticaMystica.

I found it very interesting and a fun read. I think it would have been great just a little longer, with a few of the oddities that happened a little better explained, but all-in-all a very nice, strong competitor.

Now I know I should be writing, but I think I'll read a few more, just for the heck of it. Good luck to all!

Thanks! Just checked... and it's up! :nana::D:nana:

I just hope the dark content doesn't scare off too many readers. I don't normally go for erotic horror, but I had an idea I liked and just decided to run with it.

Pax,

From the first time I penned a story, certain Literotica writers don't like writers who are too prolific. If you notice, every single time I make a post on the board, TxRad and then Sr71plt, as well as others, target me with a negative comment. If they don't do that, then they slander my name all over the place, as TxRad generally enjoys doing, just out of the clear blue.

I don't bother these people, but I surely will defend myself against their abuse. I'm here to write stories. My stories are constantly and continually targeted with negative comments and bashers low scores. They erased all my red H's numerous times and make sure that whatever I write will never win a contest here.

You ask them why they target me and they'll tell you that I attacked other writers in the past. Wrong, I defended myself when their buddies targeted me and bashed my stories to death, as they continue to do now.

Okay? Do you understand now?

EmeraldKitten,

I'm having so much fun reading the contest entries! I think I've read, voted, and commented on all, but a handful. Those who have posted more than one story, I sometimes only manage to comment on one. More go up each day and I have hard time keeping up.

I had another story to submit, but I think I'll just post it as a regular story, instead of contest. It's rather short and we're short on time. I haven't edited it yet either. A reader challenged me to describe a season dessert to him, after I had eaten the dessert in honor of his flattering comment on ~Pumpkin Pie Passion~. It turned out to be 3 pages (which on here would be about 1). I have a hard time writing LESS than 10 pages, so it was a nice challenge for myself. There is the potential for expansion as well.

I'm pleased as pumpkin punch with how things are going, especially considering my stories are in the Sci-Fi/Fantasy and Non-Human categories. Getting great feedback: positive and negative. I'm pleasantly surprised by ~Enlightened By Darkness~. I didn't expect the reads and votes to go as far as they have, mainly because of my disabled heroine. A lot of people are into cookie cutter looks. My girl has substance and a back bone (even if she can't really feel that back bone). It's good to know others out there appreciate something real. :)

How about you?

((Well, I thought it had been just a wee bit too quiet around here lately. *shrugs, looking up at the drama*))

I always vote, but I don't always comment. Bad of me, I know. lol. I love coments so much, but I don't always give them. With that being said though, I don't read a ton of stories either. Except for the contests, especially Halloween. :D
Congrats on your 'short' story, lol... sometimes it's harder to keep it short and sweet than it is to write a freakin' novel. :p
I have set a goal for myself, to finish all the unfinshed stories in my folder. This should be interesting. I might finally just delete a few that I think just suck, lol. I'd get something started, then leave it and not get back to it forever, then when I finally did- I'd have no idea where I was going with that. I've even stopped mid-sentence before. Wow. So I taught myself a lesson- if I start writing something but know I don't have long, I'll put some key words at the top, or at the end of what I write, brief myself on what I plan to write eventually, lol.
I'm pleased with my stories- just the aspect I got them sumbitted, and stopped being a weiner! lol. 'Crafting' is still the best, hovering aroun 4.6, give or take a few points depending on the day, lol. The other two are under 4.5, :( but they were just last minute quickies, so I'm not upset. :)
I did finish a story that I started forever ago yesterday, and went ahead and submitted it, even though I know it will probably take forever to get posted, lol. It ended up being 5 Lit pages! But I love that story. Love love love it. I hope it does well, and that some die-hards actually read all the way to the end, lol.

Sheesh! I just wrote a book. Sorry about that! lol. (I know what ya mean about being quiet in here.) :D

Absolutely classic Freddie/BOSTONFICTIONWRITER comments. I'll bet he's tried to copyright the phrases. Really does need to develop a different voice for this alt if he wants to dupe anyone.

God I hope you’re kidding! I just hope he hasn’t posted that nonsense on one of my threads. I’m almost tempted to take him off ignore for five minutes to check. Mind you it would be just what I’d expect (or should I say accpect?). It’s why the SW computer concluded the following more than two years ago:

In fact one of those masterpieces you were waiting for was just posted this morning…

Not just the contest

Expect for the fact that some of them didn't give me the option to vote...?

Yeah, someone emailed me yesterday to say they'd finished one of my stories but couldn't vote on it.

But then mailed me today and told me they could vote twice, so they were happy. I assumed you could vote twice anyway, though I've never tried it.

I guess the lesson us - don't update the site in the middle of a competition.

You can vote twice . . . but that's what the sweeping of votes is all about. Maybe they'll both be swept away. Most assuredly a second one from the same source will be.

*sigh* The bots got my story! I'm submitting it again with a note attached promising there is no sex of any kind, or even an allusion of sex, underage or otherwise.

I lost some points to the extent that I went from a secure red "H" to no H at all.

I'm thinking it's due to some disapproving sorts showing their displeasure at my antics in another thread. Well, as my grammy would say, "Fuck 'em if they can't take a joke."

Good luck to the rest of you, though!

guess who’s holding the "I’m with stupid" sign…

I don’t know about you but once I’ve voted on a story the STARS are lit up and if I revisit the story again they’re still lit up and you can’t vote again.

In the old days when you could vote twice (before MANU changed the system about 3 years ago) whenever I’d get an e-mail from someone telling me they’d voted twice (or even more often) on one of my stories I’d just shake my head.

I knew that all the votes they cast on the story (including the first one) would eventually be swept away. And that any other votes that poor guy cast on my other stories, and stories by other authors, would also be swept away. You see the QUEEN :cattail: automatically puts double voters on the VOTER BLACKLIST. As it was explained to me by a palace insider, the first infraction results in a six month suspension during which all this blacklisted persons votes are swept away.

A subsequent infraction and your on the list for a year.

The third and you’re forever fucked! Apparently there are now 13,678 permanently blacklisted LITEROTICANS. ACE is on the list.
