The Authors' Hangout 2010 Halloween Contest Support Thread

Just sent in my entry. It turned out longer than I anticipated, 5700 words. Now it's the waiting game.

I don't get it. How do you get your signature inside the message? I see no button for it or anything.
in your users CP you can set it so your signature always shows fo r yourself. you also have the option to hide all signatures as well, as someone pointed out earlier, some don't like all the "spam" and rather just have the posts)

Good luck to you and welcome to the AH (but I see you've been here since 2003 so it's just me not knowing you - sorry!)! I don't think I've ever seen you here before - have fun!

Thanks! I've been submitting stories since '03 but I didn't really understand how the forum worked at the time. I felt like I was at a party I hadn't been invited to. I've since lost my discussion board/chat room cherry and now that I've started writing and posting stories again, I decided to actually spend some time at the party this time. Now that I get it, that is. :cool:

Thanks for answering my question, too. Makes sense now!

As soon as I get some of this coffee in me, I've gotta get busy. I'm ready.
Just flexing my fingers now. :) I'm being porductive, I swear. :p

I'm working on a third story. my first two are getting a lot of reads, votes and comments but low scores. Of course I expected such since I put them both in loving wife.

Cheating Spouse Revenge or super powers? I wanted to get even.
Score 4.22 votes 705 reads 51788 Loving Wives (English)

Infidelity Test We all took the test on Halloween Eve. Did we all survive?
Score 3.95 votes 622 score 44237 Loving Wives (English)

I did think the second one would do better, but what do I know? None of my Halloween stories seem to ever do as good as some of my other stuff. They are fun to write though. Most anything goes.
Good luck ao everyone.

Maybe I do get it.

Under each post there's a line. For many users, there is stuff under that line.

With mine it says:

Check out my latest offerings:

The Thunder Rolls
The Dugout
Retribution
Jane's Addiction
~~~~
Website
AH Profile
Lit. Stories
(All are clickable links)
With yours it says:
bebe
bebeslut's stories
(and it's a clickable link)
Under the line in SethP's posts, he has a link to his story page.
Under the line in favoritesgoddess' posts she has two links, one to her Halloween story and one to her story page.
Everyone who has a signature has something different. Below this post I'm replying to now, there are "Additional Options" which are:
Misellaneous Options
o Show your signature
o Automatically parse links in test
o Disable smilies in text
If you check the box beside "show your signature" your signature will always show in every post or reply you make. If you uncheck the box, it won't show.
Simple as that.
Hah! Shows where I rank! :)
That Time of the Month / Everyone has their own rhythms.
Score: 3.73 Votes: 56 Reads: 7451 NonHuman
Public Comments: 3
Fortunately, I have no illusions about my place in the scheme of things. I'll take whatever piddling feedback the fates send me. :)
It's all about the fun in writing your story. As long as you enjoyed it is what counts. Thanks for being part of the contest. Non-human doesn't get as many reads as Loving wives. Don't worry about it, just enjoy writing.
with respect
I haven't given up hope of submitting. I'm still working on it. The management around here are slave drivers though. "Wash my bottles! Wipe my bottom! Get me a new diaper! Feed me!" Sheesh! :rolleyes: I have basically two more scenes to write and then edit the story together. Hopefully by the end of the weekend I'll have something coherent to post.
MagicaPractica,
*LOL* Ah yes, management always takes precedence over anything else. Can we say naptime? (Oh wait, that is catch-up-on-your-sleep-time). Bedtime? ;) Looking forward to reading it.
Fun!
I'm having fun reading the entries. I had a feeling this contest would bring thrilling new pleasures into my life! Thanks, fellow writers. Goodluck! :)
PS: Thanks for the signature tip.
Looking for your thoughts...
posted a story... ran WAY long... still had fun putting it together, so won't complain.
my question is whether posting another would dilute the interest or add interest to the first or both...
i've got what i hope will be a shorty... course, that never seems to work out, but...
well, i'll probably work it up, but wondered what those of you with more experience think about publishing multiples vs. posting one and waiting.
Regards
Alan
I got a little bit done yesterday morning. :)
Well, actually quite a bit.. I forgot I worked on two stories, lol. :rolleyes:
*yawn* Gotta get some coffee in my system then I can be coherent. :p
I've only had the chance to read a couple.. that's going to be a job in itself. lol. Woo! :)
Post any amount of stories you feel comfortable with. The more stories you submit, the more the readers will recognize your name.
During contest I often suggest too wait a least two days between stories. More for you than the reader. You will get most of your reads the first two days. Best of luck to you
It's never a good idea to post more than one story during a contest. Don't be so selfish. Give someone else a chance to win. No one wants to see you clogging up the contest board with more than one story.
Shit, did I just write what other people have written about me?
Sorry.
This is a story board. Per Laurel herself, there is no limit to the number of stories you may post.
Have fun. Good luck. I hope you win.
Well said I agree. We're suppose to be writers so what's wrong with writing? I'm not forcing anyone to read what I write. I get excited after finishing a story and want to get it submitted. It isn't doing any good sitting in a folder on my computer. :D
We're alike in that sense. I write for myself. It's thrilling just to have some place to post and if someone reads what I write and enjoys it as much as I do, that's a bonus.
Writing whatever I want to write, whenever I want to write it, instead of being tied to a pressured by a publisher, is total freedom. I'm having the best time writing these contest stories.
Good luck to you in the contest. You're long overdue, it's about time you won.
Well I've just submitted mine, the first story I've submitted to Lit in just over a year. It's a werewolf hunt-chase-shag romp. :D
Oh, don't worry, I write for my own amusement. I come up with weird ideas, or weird consequences of the ideas of others, so I expect my stuff to have limited appeal. :)
I just try to write as well as I can, that's all. I actually value negative feedback more than positive, simply because it's a chance to learn.
Oh good grief... I've got a romance on my hands.
And here I wanted to write an erotic horror.
Sometimes I hate my muse! :rolleyes:
The boss has had the problem with his Halloween stories the last couple of years – very low scores.
But your vote totals! Wow! Congratulations! Those are very, very good vote totals. And I must also tell you that I’ve been hearing back from A.I.R. readers everywhere and they’re almost universal in their praise for your work. Could another A.I.R AWARD be in your future?
