The shuttle engines roared in volume, half deafening as the shuttle came in on a final approach. There was a massive rattle that shook Natasha from head to toe and massive shock that caused an impressive, grating sound to rumble through the ship.
Landing on a landing strip was always a jolt. The shuttle came to a halt and hatch opened with a soft hiss.
Natasha rose from her seat, setting the absurd veil over her nose lightly. That would be uncomfortable as the trip wore on. She rested her hands on the backs of the seats as she made her way to the hatch of the shuttle and stepped out onto the stairs for her first glimpse of Aruna.
Natasha blinked in surprise. She had half expected some sort of primitive desert planet.
Instead, Aruna had a tropical warmth. Natasha could see a sparkling blue ocean from the steps of the shuttle, which meant the spaceport was near a beach. The terminal was a small affair, mostly just a customs and baggage check.
The city beyond was remarkable pretty, with long broad streets and warm, ocean air. The sun was extremely nice. It was paler than Terra's sun, which probably meant less radiation and more ozone. On the other hand, Aruna was a touch closer to that sun than Terra was, so Aruna was as warm as a Carribbean island.
"Welcome to Aruna," a veiled stewardess said from the steps. "Aruna is 80% covered by ocean and has no continents. All the land masses come in an archipelago of small islands..."
The woman continued her enthuiastic pitch about Aruna, but Natasha tuned her out, heading down the steps and enjoying the warm sea breeze that ruffled her dark hair. I definetely need to get a summer dress!
