The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 09

Good on you, Duleigh.
Thanks, I got my license in Korea - HL9LVT and we patched phone calls back home for Americans stationed in Asia. Our efforts drove down the suicide rate 25% I describe how those calls go in the narrative of We're a Wonderful Wife chapters 6 and 8 and throughout some of my stories I talk about hams and I give them my old call signs. If you can figure out how to look them up you'll know who and where I am. (It's all a part of public record) After returning home I worked with the National Weather Service on Ham networks spotting tornados in North Dakota, New Mexico, Texas, and Colorado.

I'm not fussed about figuring that out, but HP might be interested. He has a fair bit of radio gear.

I've used radios (well still do a little), but always within the frame of my work and/or an official network, so not familiar with ham or (fixed) callsigns.

Woke up to the plaintive wails of a wind chime that was forgotten in a Crepe Myrtle tree. the one tree I wouldn't mind seeing blown away. It's quite breezy outside but nothing nerve wracking. The Mayo clinic is still functioning, they just sent me a message reminding me that I'm 11 minutes overdue for a self-administered blood test. Life goes on...

I'll put coffee on while I still have power in my corner of the coffee room (What happened to my Buffalo Bills poster?)

You're in the path or 'only' affected by secondary effects (like power cuts)? In any case, stay safe and best of luck!

I think the most damage has been received by the weather channel website, their storm tracker shows Hurricane Ian traveling up the Labrador coast in Canada. (Not Kidding!) Right now, Ian has cut diagonally across the Florida peninsula from Naples on the west coast and headed northeast up toward Cape Canaveral and is heading out to sea. I'm told to expect about a third of a meter of rain and tons of wind but so far none has fallen, and the wind isn't bad yet. I'm northwest of Jacksonville in a weird corner of the state called the Florida/Georgia Hook.

It's good to see that Florida is still there, more or less. A friend of mine is an insurance adjuster and he's already had people calling to have him get the paperwork started for damage. You would think this has happened before.

Cinnamon Rolls for breakfast.

Since today looks like a slow day I'll make the noon coffee hi test.

Cheeseburgers for lunch. Hot, juicy, and homemade.

Got a first draft done. Above 11k words, could finish above 12k. No connection to the Halloween contest or any author-started event, and it continues what seems to be one of my themes this year, of visiting low-traffic categories (this will go in T&M). That's why I'm telling you all about it, because otherwise it'd vanish without a trace.

T&M isn't that bad of a category. I started a series there that was fairly well received. The only reason I haven't finished or even worked on it that the chapter under construction kind of took a left turn and my mind won't let me straighten it out. Not the readers but me.

I hope to get back to it with a better attitude one day.

Went over to a neighbor's house to help her set up a computer that her office sent her so she can work from home, and I find that they sent a thin client. Oh lord, I didn't think that businesses were still inflicting their employees with those things. I worked for a company installing those things 23 years ago and I was so glad to get a different job

First things first. A large coffee please, extra strong, no additives of any kind unless you can run to a shot or two of Drambuie. It's currently 9°C in Edinburgh with light cloud cover and a slight breeze from the south. But we're battening down the hatches in preparation for a bit of a hooley in the morning, although not a named storm on this occasion.

I'm new here, well I opened an account a while back and I may or may not have posted in the forums before (I have a mind like a sieve) although if I did it was probably not more than once or twice. I'm not, however, a newcomer to writing erotica pitched at women who are not in the first flush but who know their own mind, have a sense of agency, love an adventure and aren't afraid to try on the new and outrageous.
.
Just wondering if there's a place where women authors hang out around here? Or if you're a woman writer who likes the cut of my jib, give me a wave.

I've been under the weather for the past two days. I took a covid yesterday morning, and negative outcome. Since I haven't felt any better today, I took another one, and I'm still free of Covid. Small consolation as I feel like hammered dog shit. My mum is up taking care of the little one, so I won't infect him with whatever I have. I'm heading to the doctor in the morning if I'm not better! The only problem with mum being here is she treats me like a little kid when I'm sick. "Are you sure you're up to posting when you're coughing up a lung?" My head is so thick I can't even write, so the odds dimensions on me having a Halloween entry this year by the hour. Darjeeling tea may help me recover.

I sympathise, I'm feeling not so well too. Both my nose and butt are runny.

Hoping and praying you feel better soon! Not just for your little one but also for Halloween... How can I tell the readers that Millie didn't make it?

I feel for you, Millie. I've just got over a non-covid viral chest infection which matches what you have. Anti virals only took the edge off it, and it hung around for four weeks. Take care.

G'day Eilidh

Pull up a chair and welcome to the coffee shop. It's a good place to ask all sorts of oddball questions. Not sure if there's any Drambuie hidden away, but there's certainly whisky of different styles stashed at the back of the cupboard. Whisky, whiskey, and Bourbon.

You can put a shot of whiskey (with an e) in the coffee but I'll take a Highland Park on the side, with the wee jug of burn water beside it.

Like Rusty said, Millie, definitely check with the doctor and get well soon. We can be without our BaDa Boom.

Eilide, Welcome to the cafe. We have most anything to drink that the law allows and some it don't. Mostly we're a bunch of older guys but we love having the female sorts around to make us feel young and alive. Pull ups a stool, grab a chair, or slide into a booth. We're all friendly in here or they get tossed out on their ear.

There is no one place the ladies congregate but we get a fair share in here.

I'll make the evening coffee for one and all.

Since I had two cheeseburgers for lunch, supper is pretty much screwed.

I'd like to echo Tx's greetings, ignore what he says about the coffee that I make, there have been no documented genetic mutations from the coffee I occasionally make. Like you I'm living in the land of battened hatches, we went and named our bit of a hooley, he's Ian and he is passing to the east of me right now. He went over my sisters house this morning and neither of us were happy about that.

Welcome to the cafe, sit down and tell us about yourself, like how you figured out how to burn water. I tried to make some for you, but I couldn't keep it lit.

I'll put on some coffee for you folks on the night shift.

My friend Ian is out surfing and has left my corner of this oasis alone but he's working out and gaining strength, if we have any Lit readers/authors on the Carolina coast, go visit my daughter-in-law in Denver. NOW. Tell her I sent you; she'll love you for it.

Welcome Eilidh! Good to have another for the Brit table in the corner, especially one cracking open a new bottle of decent whisky!

The AH board is mostly friendly with a few characters ranting into their pints. Commenters on stories vary - there's this chap Anonymous who often doesn't appreciate stories from a female perspective...

I've spent most of the day binging on the last two seasons of Roswell that I somehow missed.
Roswell? There's a blast from the past. One of the first telly programmes I watched with the spouse, back when we were only just stopping denying we had a relationship. Worst one-night-stand ever - he's still knocking around nigh on 30 years later.

Having overlapping tastes in trashy telly probably helped.

Amen to that. Either Highland Park or Isle of Jura for me.
And please do not bother with the ice cubes.

If your coffee needs a bit of a warm-up, get the Dragon to help; GENTLY.
NB: Chloe has Black Rifle coffee; I have Skull Crusher.

I'm off to get more work done to my eyes this afternoon. Something to do with YAG lasers, I believe, but I'm not too convinced what it's all about.

But I need my coffee.
