The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 09

Well, it looks like a LW troll slipped it's leash and found an old first time story of mine. It left an "interesting" comment.

Ah well... 🙄

GOOD MORNING!!! Ian is out to sea for now so it's Whiskey for the men! Beer for the horses! And just put a bowl of coffee out for us dogs

At least it had the guts to say something, My troll doesn't say a word, it just craps on me and disappears

Finally, this place is running like a well oiled (Pun Intended) Machine.

Fresh coffee for the Fryday crew.

I slept in and didn't watch the early returns on the Halloween Contest launch this morning butt.... My story is barely hold it's head above the four line. One comment: "That's some party!" Better than nothing, I guess.

Roswell? There's a blast from the past. One of the first telly programmes I watched with the spouse, back when we were only just stopping denying we had a relationship. Worst one-night-stand ever - he's still knocking around nigh on 30 years later.

Having overlapping tastes in trashy telly probably helped.
There's a current Roswell series (formally, it's Roswell, New Mexico) produced by a minor network. The new series has gone on for three years and is slated for one more before it shuts down. According to Wikipedia, it's based on the same novels that were the basis for the first series.

I don't think either series filmed much of anything in the actual Roswell. The new one is at least filmed in New Mexico -- everywhere but Roswell.

I'll bet it was filmed in Las Vegas. A lot of filming has happened there. Isn't that where Alec Baldwin shot his last role (very bad pun intended) My favorite show, Longmire, was filmed there.

I used to stop in Las Vegas on occasion to take photos, mostly because the Harvey House in town is still standing. There's very few of them left.

C made chocolate chip cookies for breakfast. Gluten-free chocolate chip cookies (her diet restriction). They are great. Especially with coffee. I've twice cautioned her that she'd better have some before I finish the platter.

Similarly, I was surprised yesterday with two short and not anonymous comments on my recent series. I very rarely receive comments. They were the same comment, critical of my use of "harem" to describe the polyamory. Hmm.

I know I'm going to kick myself for saying this... but the troll(s) who were bombing the first few stories in my new series have apparently tired of the game. Fewer votes, but bottom line much better. As commented elsewhere, all it takes is a couple of bombs in a low-traffic category to screw scores badly.

Uhhhhhhh... in Las Vegas? My (swiss cheese) knowledge base recalls Harvey Houses were exclusive to the Santa Fe. You know something I don't?

Las Vegas, New Mexico. And yes, that's the primary location for the new series. It's also filmed here, in Santa Fe and several other places around the state.

Duleigh, Alec Baldwin's problem was at a permanent, made-for-movies western set south of Santa Fe.

Oops. My mind glossed over the 'NM' context. Have my own memories of Las Vegas, NM.

Hey, D. Grapevine is alleging the semaphores are toast in a couple of months. Heard that before, but it's sounding more serious this time around.

I'm feeling a little better today, but to be honest, I only just got up. Mum is still here until Jo gets home tonight from work. If I can get a clear head today, I'll begin my story for the contest.

Welcome back Millie.

Fresh coffee for the lunch time crew.

It was 50 degrees this morning and the high is only supposed to be 81. Sunny and bright. A good day for some fun outside on the sundeck.

Is that where they filmed Silverado? (Alec Baldwin's problem)

Welcome Eilidh! Good to have another for the Brit table in the corner, especially one cracking open a new bottle of decent whisky!

The AH board is mostly friendly with a few characters ranting into their pints. Commenters on stories vary - there's this chap Anonymous who often doesn't appreciate stories from a female perspective...

I've got a nice Ardbeg here too. And some Colonsay gin if you're interested.

Some of these chaps need a good seeing to from a forceful woman, if you ask me.

Silverado was probably the most well-known film done there. It was built starting in the 50's for a Jimmy Stewart movie, and it's been used ever since by a really long list of other movies.

Amen to that. Either Highland Park or Isle of Jura for me.
And please do not bother with the ice cubes.

If your coffee needs a bit of a warm-up, get the Dragon to help; GENTLY.
NB: Chloe has Black Rifle coffee; I have Skull Crusher.

I'm off to get more work done to my eyes this afternoon. Something to do with YAG lasers, I believe, but I'm not too convinced what it's all about.

But I need my coffee.
Ice cubes is a hanging offence here in Scotland. So is soda. That's why we let the yanks have Johnnie Walker, they can do what they like with that because it's mince!

What I said to Kumquatqueen about my extras on the si9de, but don't shout too loud or they'll all want some. Hope you got your eyes sorted all right.

I might try a wee story tonight.

I'd like to echo Tx's greetings, ignore what he says about the coffee that I make, there have been no documented genetic mutations from the coffee I occasionally make. Like you I'm living in the land of battened hatches, we went and named our bit of a hooley, he's Ian and he is passing to the east of me right now. He went over my sisters house this morning and neither of us were happy about that.

Welcome to the cafe, sit down and tell us about yourself, like how you figured out how to burn water. I tried to make some for you, but I couldn't keep it lit.
Wasn't it Cleveland where they perfected the art of burning water?

I'm sure you'll find out all about me in time. Be careful though, I'm an Olympic-standard snarker when care to be.

It appears I do... you didn't know that the AT&SF stopped in Las Vegas?

Like I said in my response to NW, the 'NM' part went over my head, and being a UP fan (and shareholder, and ex-SP employee) my mind automatically went to the other Las Vegas.

Been at or through the NM location several times, either on the train or mobile, most recent four years ago for a last-hurrah tour of semaphore country. Didn't realize one of the few remaining Harvey Houses is there. Whenever I think "Harvey House", my thoughts go immediately to Barstow and Needles, close to where I grew up.

:ROFLMAO::LOL:

🎼Way down upon the Cuyahoga! 🎶 Good shot! Most Americans don't remember that one. Unfortunately, I grew up downwind from that freak show, I'm from Buffalo, the only thing we burn is chances at a championship in ice hockey or real football. In the days that the Cuyahoga river was a smoldering crap clogged open sewer, all of Lake Erie was an ecological disaster. In the summer the wind stank of dead fish and the tap water tasted of algae. I spent my free time on my grandfather's tree farm where the spring water is still sweet, and the tree farm is a setting for many of my stories. Snark is a survival tactic in a factory town whose only product is snow.

Ardbeg, eh? Fancy popping down to London with it? Though I've actually got my own Highland Park Viking Scars, a Balvenie and a Glenlivet to choose from, here on my dresser. One of my protagonists is a whisky obsessive, so I had to do a bit of extra research. Oh, how I suffer for my art...

Ah yes, the demands of research! ;)

Only to my office, I'm afraid. I like to keep a tight ship. Although some around here get tighter than others.

Too bad I can't drink any longer. Some nice familiar names being bantered around.
