The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 09

Yes, the camera is one thing, but the vape tube? Hmm. I don't know if storing it there is historically accurate. 🤣
Rennfaires have their own idea of history and somehow cleavages became handy holders for different items. The last fair I was at they were selling cleavage safe rose buds to decorate m'ladies breastage area

I've been informed, by people who I'm pretty sure have been involved in them for a long time, that Rennfaires were started by the Society for Creative Anachronism, and spread from a source point in northern California. The SCA pedigree is used to justify things like the camera, because it's creative use of anachronism. That's their story, to which they adhere.

DR13, the outfit you showed earlier looks entirely suitable, and as noted above, non-period conveniences (especially eyeglasses) are not criticized. Now, the consumption of Flamin' Hot Cheetos might raise a few eyebrows, but that's what eyebrows are for.

The new coffee shop is fine and all, but I've split from the big round table in the middle of the room, because the insomniacs were keeping me awake. I can get reasonably good WiFi from this old card table near the far wall. The only problem is that it's under An Unpleasant Stain on the ceiling, which may be dripping. I'll have to take a different route to go hunting up there for high concepts. Fortunately I already have the concept for the story on which I'm now making headway. It has metastasized past 8k words, no end in sight.

Chloe, a much better picture than the one in the nun outfit but the false advertising must go. The shirt says CK jeans but there are no jeans in the picture. Welcome to the new and uh, improved, maybe not but it is cleaner cafe.

JSFH, Uh, I think you need to sit out on the patio under an umbrella before you flood the poor Japanese girl upstairs out and down the stairs. Then who would grind the beans so finely.

Fresh coffee just because I'm here.

Fresh coffee for the morning crew.

It supposed to be 55-low 60's in the morning later in the week. Sweat shirt and overalls time.

Mmmm cooofffeeeee

I'm becoming a weather channel zombie, Ian is headed this way (maybe) and I need to get ready. should I go with propane or gasoline for the generator? I'm trained for dealing with 5 feet of snow, not 5 feet of water!

I'm back.
Did anybody even miss me?
sorry I missed the fall cleaning and relaunch. I was looking forward to it.

Was under the weather for a few days. Haven't even had coffee since Wednesday. But my stonach is pretty much back to notmal and they told me to push fluids. Isn't coffee a fluid?

Welcome back SH. There is a new shaded hitching post out back for your steed with water and hay near by.

Duleigh, Five feet of water isn't a problem if you keep a six foot ladder near by. A small boat with a trolling motor and a charged battery are helpful also. I keep four or five on hand at all times.

Wish I could do that, I'm in charge of emergency communications for the city now... There's only two licensed hams here and I guess it's my turn AKA - L.T.N.G.D.I. (Let The New Guy Do It) At least I get to man the station at City Hall (a former church) instead of going to the shelters at the elementary school. There's MUCH better vending machines at City Hall.

Today I was reminded that our dear sirhugs is mod over at the Story Idea forum, but here in AH the mod mentioned is AH_Mod. Is that a person or just a cover identity for a (group of) mod(s)?

Nope, it's just one guy as far as I know. I've talked with him numerous times and always seems to be the same person. He's been around at least as long as I have, maybe longer.

Then lunch time coffee is ready.

At least the church has a steeple. ;)

You're on the path? Stay safe then.
A couple of hours ago that big black H next to friday 8 AM was sitting on my back patio, now it's sliding to the west. We may dodge a bullet, we're inland however the Okefenokee Swamp drains into my front lawn if it floods.

Ah. Stay safe and/or dry then. šŸ¤ž

"Download the app"

We are going to a holiday caravan park but we do not have, and I couldn't use, a smart mobile.

But everything is done by the app - the opening of the barrier gate, the unlocking of the caravan, the booking of activities etc.

But they know they have many elderly customers. not everyone can 'download the app'.

If there is no one to open the barrier? My Volvo will drive straight through it and sod the app.

It is actually against the law in the UK to require people to use an app 'You MUST download the app' they say. They must provide another way for people who cannot use an app.

I don't use apps, as well, Ogg. However, my POV is from the other end of the spectrum - knowing the tech. Too many apps try to sneak past gatekeepers to rifle around in your personal information on the phone.

For that matter, most "free" apps tap into the GPS on the phone to build a location history so they can present "personalized" and location-based advertising, at minimum sending your location data to their database for tracking or resale purposes. You can block this more or less on Apple phones, but Android-based phones are basically open sewers. An Android phone may appear to have privacy settings, but it's been proven time and time again that getting around user privacy preferences is quite easy.

Apps ... not Apples? I thought that was a typo thing. Found out two days ago that it was a 'thing,' not a typo. I had to load one on my iPhone to get a military discount on a purchase. They no longer let me use my ID to verify my service status. After a decade at the register, while a young girl and I passed my phone back and forth, she had it set up for me. I still don't know what steps she took or how to use it, but eventually, a fuzzy picture showed up, and she scanned it with the scanning gun, and a discount price showed up on the receipt.

Another damn thing to deal with down the road. Life is getting more complicated, not easy the way technology advocates said it would be ...

But I'm just here for an afternoon cup of java.

Waiting for a crew to come up tomorrow and build a new wheelchair ramp for the front door. Time was, I could mix the concrete and lug the framing around by myself. Today, I couldn't lift the 2x4x8 pieces to frame it up. Glad some young guys were around to help out and good neighbors to help offload those concrete sacks ... would have been SOL if not for them. But that's what good neighbors do for one another. Life is still like that in some places!

I'll make the more or less midnight coffee for those in need.

Hang on Moanday is here for the working class. The rest of us don't care.

The ladies and I had our night out and then all three of us needed a nap. Mine hasn't caught up with me yet but it will, sooner or later.

I find it difficult to convince some folks that my mobile phone is NOT one of these "do everything" gadgets. One young twerp just could NOT understand why I needed a full postal address, rather than the mere Post code. "Just put it into your 'phone", she said.
"I don't have one of those", I replied.
She still did not understand that I wanted the information by Post.

App is another of those weird demonstration of the corruption of the English language by Fools who do things in short-hand. It is short for "Application".
[or so I'm told].

Coffee -
I must get the coffee.

All this talk about Rennfaires sparked some memories.

JSFH above got it mostly correct. The faires started in 1963 in the San Fernando Valley. The Northern California version began in 1967 in China Camp State Park in Marin County. In 1970 it moved to a site in Black Point at the mouth of the Petaluma River.

My Aunt and Uncle lived in a 'fishin' shack' across the highway from what became the Black Point Forest. The Renn Faire had a long-term lease on the acreage and built permanent buildings for workshops, training, theaters, and arenas.

In 73 or 74, I drove to Black Point to visit, and the Faire was running. Although the bawdy dress was encouraged, behavior had to remain within a family-safe boundary during the general admission hours. Most of the performers and craftspeople camped in the forest, though; if you knew someone (and my aunt and uncle knew everyone), you could get in after hours and have a considerably enhanced experience.

I've been jotting down some notes for something for one of next year's contests.

Good morning all
*Takes out the French press, whole bean coffee, and the hand grinder*
Just practicing up in case we're out of power for an extended period. Hurricanes spook the alligators off the treadmills and they run off into the swamps, it takes Okefenokee Power, Light, and Feed Mill a week to get them back to work

BTW my returned story was posted today, but my poem is still pending. Does poetry take longer to process, like editing takes?
