The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 09

Sexy polka battle. I'm in:
I want you to know that I was in, but I can't find the song I wanted on the internet.

I bought a CD once in Germany from a crazy Russian street band called Brain Drain. The album is named Smoke on the Vodka. It's a weird sort of Eastern European, polka-punk.

I have the music, but I can't upload a song to a forum post.

If you have examples of these kinds of poetry battles, I'd love to see how they unfolded
Search for 'Flyting'. It was a thing back when the Vikings invaded Britain. It's a battle of verbal insults in rhyme.

I only know that because it's a side quest in the Assassins Creed Valhalla game.

Yay! My incidental learning came in handy!

There's also the famous incident in Romance of the Three Kingdoms where Wang Lang confronts Zhuge Liang, attempting to convince him to surrender, and gets owned so hard by facts and logic and being compared to a dog that he instantly dies, allowing Zhuge Liang's forces to win the resulting battle.

The talk of Taekwondo combined with a movie I just watched is leading to a "drop what you're doing and pursue this" character concept. No plot bunny yet, just a character concept that deserves a story.
I plan to check out the taekwondo class next year when they start back. The instructor definitely makes all the difference.

@TheRedLantern - go for it. I've written a few karate based stories and co-wrote another for a friend here. I did the technical stuff, she wrote the hot sex. ♨️

Poetry, martial arts, and somewhere in those stories y'all linked to, sex. Know little to nothing about the first two.

Weather report? Fuckin' cold for here. 12° in the big city. Might get Millie's ice storm this weekend.

What I thought was going to be the closing chapter of Barstow is now at 9K words and nowhere near wrapping things up. I guess I'll let the guys get on with their big life change, and they can take their bows in the next chapter, I suppose. But shame on me for adding a primary character this close to the end. He does serve a purpose. I am toying with self-publishing in on-demand hardcopy.

Aren't Hamilton spoilers just...American history?
Yes, no, kinda?

First, not everyone else learns this much detail of US history, in which case Hamilton is a fun place to get it from.
Second, this shows scenes and uses exact lyrics from the entire show.

People have very different bars for what's a spoiler, so I generally like to err on the side of caution. :)

I took my new character concept out for a test drive this morning. She came out in very distant third person, so she's not someone who is going to spill her secrets easily. The writing also came out very "pulp-y", and so did the character, which I assume is because I'm currently re-reading some Robert E Howard Conan stories and talking with @StillStunned about pulp writing every chance he gives me.

A gritty, glamorously violent, 1200 word action scene that didn't shy away from sex is what came out as basically a character intro. Her name is never given (I know it), although her nickname of The Tigress is. The first two words of the story rooted the character with my "Kibun" story, which feels appropriate for something pulpy and larger-than-life.

No idea what will come of The Tigress, but I feel like if I'm compelled to wake up early and write 1200 words so that I can see a character, I'm onto something.

Another cold gloomy morning but I can't complain. Without the Meloxicam, I'm feeling a little achy but nothing I can't handle. Maybe it's tracking the votes on my new story every five minutes that's making it bearable ...

There's fresh coffee brewing and the teapot is hot. There are donuts on the counter and I'm going to make a cornbread today. The candy dish has been refreshed and the lights are on the tree. I'm going to light it up for the first time tonight so try to stop in and ooh and aah when it happens.

I actually wrote some words last night and again this morning. So much for taking a break, but I guess if I can't write, I don't know what to do with myself ...
