The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 09

If I was still in the hobby I'd be salivating over the possibility of VHF/UHF/SHF DX given the super-low noise floor.
Speaking of hobbies left in the past, for some reason my favorite hobby (that I had to give up) wormed its way into my current series - barbershop harmony. I miss singing barbershop (I miss being able to sing) somehow the agony of a competition quartet that loses their lead worked its way into the story. The dynamics of a competition quartet are quite interesting; it's like a dysfunctional football team. Not only does each guy have a part to sing, but they also have a role to play on stage, and a role to play off stage. The wives are highly important, helping with rehearsal, ego massaging, costume, hair, and makeup.

Well, I've been made an offer for the new job. An extra 50% pay over what I'm getting now, a higher percentage into my retirement fund, subsidised housing, free access to the local pool and gym...

The town seems nice. Got a great pizza place, a really nice Thai restaurant, some good coffee shops. It's just a long way from anywhere else.

I see boxes in my future.
You've been needing a change. That should do it.

@Rustyoznail - good luck on your move and new job. You can still stop by from time-to-time and share a cup of coffee.

It's another cool and sunny morning but it's going to cloud up and start raining tomorrow afternoon. Just in time for me getting ready for a road trip to upstate New York to enjoy the colors of autumn in the Finger Lakes. I'll need someone to keep the coffee going while I'm gone for a few days.

For now, I've got a fresh pot of coffee going and the teapot is hot. There are various goodies on the counter and as the pumpkins ripen, I'm thinking about making a pumpkin pie or two.

I'll be over in the corner working on my story and keeping the plot bunnies from nibbling on my ankles. I won't be getting much writing done while I'm gone, but the story is nearly done so I'm not worried about getting it done in time.

Cheerios, Life, raisins, dried cranberries, date pieces, M&Ms and a couple of others things tossed in and tossed together make a decent snack mix.

I finally forced myself through chapter 14 of the draft of my sci-fi novel. It took me longer to write that than the first 13 chapters. And I left three parts with just a one phrase description of a scene that was missing. But I let that happen in several other places in the draft. The goal is to do a more extensive revision phase than I have in the past.

Some grading to do, hopefully some reading for other people and the rest of the time will be writing.

My wife shares her birthday celebration with our oldest daughter because their birthdays are three days apart. This morning I was thinking maybe I'd just let my hair grow out and keep it in a pony tail, but then she said--to no-one in particular, you know--that it would be a good idea to get a haircut before we go out to dinner tomorrow.

So my birthday gift for her is me getting a haircut.

I've had a hell of a time finding good barbers, but several years ago I read in the newspaper about a barbershop close
to where I live where the old barber was a great source of information about (very) local history. I found him, and he was close enough to walk to. Got a great haircut and lots of conversation.

God, I sound old.

There was a guy waiting at the shop to show the barber his car--a customized, '70s-vintage El Camino show car. Those things didn't look that good when they were new. The paint job (dark blue metal flake with blue flames on the hood) only cost twelve grand.

It's amazing how much of our nest egg can be frittered away like that. Like that license plate frame says, "This is our kid's inheritance."

And I dunno, NW. I always wonder about old men sporting ponytails. Granted, not nearly as... whatever... as man-buns.

Wednesday, I was a Jew Bitch in the Vatican.

Ah, that explains it, Mary. The earth tilted on its axis for a moment. Oh. Never mind. It did. We call it "fall", or "spring" for our antipodes.

Spring has sprung, the grass is riz...

A bit of rain, a bit of sun, and I could lose the dog in the grass out the back. It's too much for a normal mower. I'll have to use a weed whacker first. 🙁

@sirhugs - thanks for starting the coffee and heating up the teapot. I've got some donuts and muffins to put out on the counter. I'll be leaving tomorrow morning this time, so there's extras in the 'fridge.

I'll be spending one more morning over in the corner working on my story before I need to get packed. I'll try to keep everyone updated on my journey. It'll be a relief to get away from the plot bunnies for a few days ...

make sure that none hide in your luggage... the little buggers are hell to get through customs.
