The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 09

Sixty Two degrees here! I didn't think that was allowed in Florida!

My latest 3D project. It's a "paint station" a device to hold my brushes and what-not when painting Christmas ornaments The cups hold 9oz plastic cups of water for cleaning the brushes. The white thing is an ornament in need of paint. The ornament took an hour to print, the paint station took over 9 hours to print.

There's no end to the old dog's talents! Do give us a look at the finished thing, please.

I thing I'll be painting a bit later tonight and tomorrow. I'm at the point in a story where I can't break away.

When you get around to it, clue me in on which 3D printer you're using. That's some amazingly nice output. I have a Bambu Lab X1C Carbon with auto changer. Just getting my feet wet with it. Also have an Anycubic Photon D2 DLP.

This is my first printer ever, a single color Flashforge Adventurer 5M. I'm still noodling around with different filaments to see which works best, I've ruled out Flashforge filament and am happiest with Overture. For details like that ornament I found that slowing down the print speed to about 40-45 mm/s works best. I also found out the hard way to VENT THE ROOM even when using PLA filament.

That looks awesome! It's a whole lot more than I'm ready to pay for a 3D printer however, but some of that stuff I saw on the web made by that printer looked awesome! (I would love to print full color tigers)
Anycubic Photon D2
That looks like science fiction to me! Wow! How does it work?

Sorry, guys. Duleigh and I share at least three other consuming hobbies beyond writing porn erotica.

The auto changer on the Bambu is just this side short of a Star Trek replicator. Or so it seems. I only have four color stations, but the box can support up to 16! The front end work with the slicer for the color changing is daunting, however. I have 0.4 and 0.2 mm nozzles, but haven't used the smaller one yet since the 0.4 does everything I ask of it.

The Photon D2 is incredible. I can hold 0.005" walls with it, and it is bloomin' accurate and warp-free. My old Photon with the LCD screen can't hold a candle to it. DLP resin is a whole 'nuther dimension to 3D printing, but at the moment is a complicated issue - the DLP engines are currently made from unobtainium. The D2 is currently O/S with no schedule in sight. I got in just as it was known the well was running dry.

Damn, the video I saw was beyond cool. I'm sure if I ever get a decent royalty check I'll get one... it's going to be a very long time before I get a check that hefty.

"Delta team, this is Recon Team leader, so you copy? Over."

"Copy, Recon Team. Over."

"The coffee shop appears empty. I spot half a pot of leftover coffee and several danishes from yesterday. Can you confirm? Over."

Thirty tense seconds later ...

"This is Delta Team leader, " munch munch munch."I'm not seeing any signs of those danishes. Over."

"I see you eating them."

better he eat the danishes than the carrots. Those plot bunnies could take Delta team in a fight.

Another sunny and cool morning. It's going to get up to about 70 degrees today with some clouds. A beautiful day to do some gardening. Still pain free and starting to wonder when the shoe is going to drop.

I've got a fresh pot of coffee brewing and the teapot is hot. There weren't any leftover danishes but lots of crumbs, so I've got some donuts and cupcakes on the counter. I also made a cornbread so there's that if you want any.

I'll be over in the corner working on my story. I got through the scene I was having trouble with and it will probably be rewritten because I'm not that happy with it. The crunching sounds of the plot bunnies munching on the carrots is starting to get annoying. If you hear any whinging, it's just me and my Muse having a difference of opinions on my story.

Got to bed last night at a civilized hour, if you call 0130 a civilized hour. Certainly an improvement over the 0300-0400 over the past several days. Between a needy dog and a muse that won't shut the F up, the sleep cycle has taken a beating.

Still hacking away at the now-16K-word LW story. Summoning the courage to post it in the minefield.

Good luck!

Well, good news - Laurel PM'd me early this morning about the 2026 Events and posted the calendar as a pinned thread up at the tio

I have sent her the missing support thread links as well as the ‘‘Tis the Season… for Conception" event to replace Amorous Goods

All the NEW EVENTS (or replacements) are confirmed and we are good!!!!!!

We are all GO for 2026!

Thx a million everyone for helping put this together!!!!!!

As we create the remaining Support Threads and tidy up any lose ends, I'll consolidate and send to Laurel so we can keep the PM's to her to a minimum

I am seeing several signs that Laurel is back from what ever was going on. Which is awesome news for us and the site.

You may not feel at liberty to say if she said anything else, but if she did, did she sound okay?

I'm also personally excited because I have actually gotten some writing done today for the first time in almost a week. I know it is not the level of writer's block that many of you have battled, but this is easily my longest stretch of not writing in the 8 months since I started writing.

And it is a beautiful, but cool autumn day here.

My students seem to not think they need any help with anything this semester (makes my job easier, even if this is a bad decision generally). This means my help sessions, like right now, become free time, so I am about to do some more writing.

For days now, I've been trying to rework the story I wrote for another site to believe it's good enough to post here. I can't get there, and I'm struggling to figure out why I'm not satisfied with the story. There are a few little things, it isn't scary enough, it isn't sexy enough, and other things that may or may not be issues. It doesn't feel right, it doesn't read like something I want others to see. It doesn't read like something I wrote, and doesn't sound like my writing when my computer reads it to me.

Therefore, despite my best (or maybe not so best) efforts, I don't think I can get it right in time for the contest here.

So this year, I don't get to put anything in the Halloween contest. Bummer!

Found it. Thanks, @ChloeTzang, for the update.

All of the features I installed last year in the UI for my Sudoku stuff are actually working now. There might be a glitch or two, but early tests are good.

I'm canning up a batch of pickled jalapenos without sugar to match my wife's preferences. Then I'm putting all the canning stuff away. I'm done with that for the year.

Brought in two kinds of tomatoes, broccolini, cucumber and jalapenos this morning. I'll rip out the New Mexico chiles next. Still waiting to see if any of the last four melons actually ripen before I pull those out.
