KK - Closest is 70 miles away. When we lived closer to one, it was always fun when they were running the machine and would hand out free samples hot off the conveyor to anyone waiting in line.
DD - Closer, only 30 miles. Cream-filled always my preference. Powdered sugar on top? Very, very messy. Don't dare eat 'em in the car.
Casey's - Quality is regional due to contracted suppliers. We have three in our town, and I haven't been happy with any of them. The one near our (former) cabin was great.
Tim Horton's packed up and left most of the US 10-15 years ago. We used to have one about an hour away. There are a bunch in western Ohio, three in Houston, and a handful of single stores scattered in the eastern US.
Local? We had a great one that lasted about two years. Did a land-office business they couldn't handle. Our choices here are either Casey's, or the bakery at the large-chain supermarket. Now theirs aren't bad, and cooked on-site.
But it doesn't matter any more. Just diagnosed with Type 2, and the doctor frowns on this kind of activity.![]()
I'm sorry to hear about the recent diagnosis. If you're into baking, might I recommend checking out some of the recipes using the Weight Watchers 2 ingredient dough as a substitute. Because it uses high protein greek yogurt, you're combining that protein with the more complex carb but can still have a bit of a sweet treat without spiking blood sugar (of course, talk to your doctor, right? But it worked the two times I had gestational diabetes for getting my treat fix).
