We were on a great vacation when I was 10, we were on the Maine seacoast, and I got sick as a dog for 2 days. Ever since that day I cannot eat fried clams. Steamed are fine, baked clams are better. Clams casino are my favorite. Minced clams in any recipe doesn't bother me, but when a fried clam gets near me, I start to gag and heave. Food aversions are a bitch. But after that I haven't had a problem on vacation.Does anyone else get sick on vacation? We were away for a week, but I felt like crap for the last 3 days. I even checked for covid when we finally got home. Now I've got to phone in sick for work and blag my way to seeing a doctor.

My community college psychology 101 class only taught me one usable thing - food aversion is the only lasting psychological issue that can be a lifelong trauma after only one exposure. Considering the things I ate overseas, I'm surprised I'm only terrified by fried clams.
Oh sure - friend can't eat mussels any more after having a bad one. She suffered terrible poisoning symptoms.
what decision is that?I have earned myself one (1) Story Submission Reward Cupcake and now have a huge decision to make
Yup. We live in a small seaside town, but we invariably come down the with the "Melbourne lurgy" when we visit family.Does anyone else get sick on vacation? That still happens. My sister and I remember pressing our noses to the car windows when we stopped for petrol because there'd be a Macky or something even more exotic like Costa Coffee. We'd have homemade wholesomeness sarnies with maybe a treat for being good, like Cheesestrings, which are totally gross but we liked them for the novelty factor. Kids, huh? When I was growing up, on our cross-country road trips Mom and Dad would not stop at restaurants, we would prepare our own meals from grocery store stops. Aside from the expense of feeding four kids, back in "the good ol' days" you could not depend on a random eatery being... uh... "safe". So vacation illnesses were rare, except for the time I came down with mumps halfway across Tennessee.
As adults, eating at major well-known chains like McD's or Denny's may be boring, but at least you have some confidence that corporate food-safety protocols are usually the rule. If either one of us feels unwell - rare - it's usually the blahs from disrupted sleep patterns combined with road-trip exhaustion.
Of course, there was my MI and later, the stroke up at our cabin. Those were just matters of poor timing.![]()
I like you're attitude to things. I think I might grow up to be youI bailed on that one a couple of days ago.
Prefect example of 'after the first two pages, it's all been said ..... '
never actually known of boys to do that. That still happens. I've just exercised my bail-out option by deleting all my posts from that tedious 'Do we REALLY care if we love AI' or whatever it's called. Once a thread attracts a certain couple of posters who just won't - let - go then it's like watching little boys seeing who can piss highest up the wall.
Oh, I didnever actually known of boys to do that.
did they drink lots of coffee first?Oh, I did![]()
Are you saying that you've seen it or done it?Oh, I did![]()
