The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 09

When I was forced into retirement (on a Monday) I figured my hate of Mondays was over. At one part of my life I was very depressed and just the thought of Mondays nearly drove me to suicide every Sunday evening. The worst part was that I loved my job, once I got to work I got into the swing of things, it was just another day but with more useless staff meetings. But when I retired, I still hated Monday... It's no different from any other day of the week, except that the few TV shows I watch returned from their weekend hiatus.

Now that I'm retired, one day is the same as the next. I lose track of time, I only know what day it is because when I take my medications I can tell by the 7-day pill dispenser how far along in the week I got... but I know Monday. Monday has that aura... like I could tell which child got into the cookies by their expression, I can tell a Monday because of it's attitude. Monday is made from agony, with a side of depression.
There's the making of a good contest or event, right there.

My new story is rated HOT with 16 votes! I love how the new stories gain new eyes on the rest of my stories. It's gray this morning. We did get rain yesterday. It came down softly with no downpours so it all soaked in nicely.

There's a fresh pot of hot black coffee brewing (not bitter I hope) and the teapot is hot. There are muffins and cupcakes on the counter.

I'll be over in the corner working on my story. I actually got some writing in yesterday despite checking on my Author's Control Panel every 15 minutes ...

I had to rush to get my Crime & Punishment story done before the deadline. In doing so, I needed to take some pieces from my WIP at the time,

Now it's time to go back to that story and rebuild it. Harder. Better. Faster. Stronger. (okay now that song is stuck in my head and I have to go listen to it)

My C&P story was similarly rushed, but ended up as a reasonable balance of story vs characterisation and sex in the end. Some people seem to be enjoying it, though no comments so far. I may revisit the characters.

I have two ideas which could be used for Halloween which I'm vaguely working on, except both have depressing parts and I mostly write for escapism, so they may go on hold until I get a rare sprint of inspiration.

Currently not well, but one advantage of polyamory is when you hear your partner's partner downstairs in the early morning, you can text and ask nicely for a cup of tea, and tea arrives. The spouse has many talents but mornings aren't one of them (one reason he has his job is he's very happy to work 11-7 with the odd meeting at 9pm, with Americans). Now if one of you could just teleport me one of those muffins...

Yesterday was definitely a Monday.

Running errands, C verified a Chinese restaurant we patronized before COVID recently reopened their dining room, so we decided that was our lunch for the day. Late risers, we did our usual thing of leaving the house ~3:00, after the insane "mommy" traffic around the jr. high school a block away has dissipated.

Anyway... we take our seats at the eatery around 3:10 or so. The server - maybe 10 years old, not cute... closer to surly - gave us lunch menus and took our beverage requests, which was "tea". Okay, "tea" in a Chinese restaurant usually means a teapot and finger cups. Nope. Two 12-ounce iced teas. Our bad for not being clear, I guess. He starts to take our order, but runs away to the host stand to return with two dinner menus. "Here. Lunch ended at three." I ask if the selections were the same, and did the dinner entrees come with the same sides (soup and spring roll). "Same. No sides."

Uh oh.

Dinner entree prices were 20% higher than lunch prices and we'd have to order the sides as separate items. Quick calculation, and our $35 lunch was suddenly $60. Now C has been bugging me for years about going out for Chinese, and the four or five places in town closed or became restrictive with COVID, and didn't recover like everybody else. I said to the server, "No, we won't be doing that," and started to rise from my chair. "$7 for the drinks," was the response. Rather than make a scene with the now-rude child, I set the cash on the table and had to emphasize the obvious with C, "We're leaving."

She was not happy, and I was furious. Yelp is pretty much irrelevant these days, but I logged into my (ancient) account anyway, ticked "one star", told the above story, adding, "Never again."

Yes, I know the way many Chinese restaurants work, dinner is "family style", with large entrees and side dishes intended to be shared. So what does a couple with differing diet requirements do? Go elsewhere, I guess. C was seething that we ended-up at the usual Mexican place, the only eatery in town that meets all our peculiar particular requirements.

In other news, the tree service woke me up this morning at 6:45 driving their equipment past our bedroom and into the backyard to deal with the big fallen limb from the neighbor tree. Most of their effort was rigging to prevent the cut limb from falling and doing damage. 90 minutes later, done, and my wallet is decidedly thinner. They're good guys and have been doing a lot for us lately. Glad to have them.

Now try picturing your mc doing a little dance to the song.

See our receptionist for the admission form. We require a name, address, Social Security number, and two credit card numbers to participate.

None of that has to be yours, however. Welcome to the insane asylum. We have a resident dragon in the basement, so if you venture down there, grab a lump of coal from the pile next to the steps and toss it to 'im, he'll appreciate it.

MrPixel: Bots, why'd it have to be a bot? I hate bots.
Jock: Oh, that's just my pet bot, Kittengirl_9647! @MrPixel.

Just stick to those standards as you interact with folks on here.

Ok, fine. Are you a budding author? A budding author of erotica? There are social sites everywhere, so why are you looking for "friendship" here? I read your profile, and it's just so much... uh... so much broad-sweeping unspecific generalities.

Looks like it might be time to switch to decaf in the coffee shop thread.

Nah. We've been under attack by script bots, and the dialog here and especially the DM attempt (and WTF? response to a specific request) is highlighting deep knowledge of forum features, features that somebody honing a script would know. If our friend here is not a bot, then they're an alt trying to stir the pot, so to speak.

They missed out world peace from their list of objectives.
