The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 09

I assume she is referring to a AI thread that was posted shortly before her first post (her second post seems to have disappeared).

Either I'm the only one that googled what "Operation Sealion" was in the intro of that AI thread that was started by the account created today ("Well, until an AI can show me how to make Operation Sealion work"), or this place is not what I thought.

I started to read the thread and then joined StillStunned's tired of AI thread instead. I have already wasted too much energy bickering with people who have drunk the koolaid and will never be able to admit it's making them sick. I did not look up Operation Sealion. I will choose to stay blissfully ignorant in this instance. One too many things for me to cope with right now.

My itch to write has been waning. Some health issues, as well as the new environment at home are responsible for that. I have those nurses coming in and out, but they are only here a few hours a week. It's the live-in housekeeper who is the distraction from writing. Checking in on me frequently tends to tamp down computer time for musing over writing.

My last story was written in January, thinking I might not be here to post in July for the Mike Hammer theme. I worked on that at the end of 2024 and sent it early January 2025. Since then, I started another one and just finished it. Kenjisato is currently reviewing it for me, so I'm looking forward to getting at least one story in 2025. I aimed for a Rod Serling Twilight Zone theme about two astronauts out of contact with Earth.
🙏🙏🙏

Another cool bright sunny morning with no rain in sight. I'll be out watering the herb garden if my back will allow it. I really wish now I had done a better job keeping my body in shape when I was younger.

I've got a fresh pot of coffee brewing and the teapot is hot. There are donuts and blueberry scones on the counter. The apple crisp is all gone and I'm going to have to make another one. I may even get adventurous enough to make a cornbread.

I'll be over in the corner working on my story. Ignore the muttering and invectives as I try to find a good spot to add in some additional backstory for my FMC ...

@dmallord - it's possible that the company managing your care was hacked and the scammers used that information to move in on you. Maybe you should let them know so they can try to prevent this from happening to their other clients (or at least warn their clients to look out for it).
I've alerted them. More likely, with several massive US data breaches my info was among those. I received a notice from one of the major groups, like Experian, that some of my info had been compromised among millions of others. Nothing came ofthat in 2024 but it is now apparently.

My mail carrier also reported suspicious persons on bicycles were seen in the neighborhood opening mailboxes. So that is another possibility.

Several names on the charges and wire transfers identify some of the crooks. Police are going to investigate those locals that have their auto insurance payments paid from my accounts.

I have to file a Federal Trade ID theft charge according to the local police. They gave me that phone number: 877-382-4357. It's on my to-do list.

Seems like a return to working a job. with low wages!

Glad you're rallying the troops now. Yes it's a major pain, but hopefully you'll get most or all of it back... eventually.

The bicycle thing caught my eye. One of our neighboring cities' police department is buying an "e-bike" for patrolling. They have experienced a rash of burglaries where perps are riding totally-silent e-bikes and e-scooters into carports and up to houses to do what they do. If they hear a car, off they go, and don't necessarily escape on streets. So the chief decided to fight fire with fire. Smart.

Good luck with everything.

A not-unpleasant physio session - this guy is being more gentle, seeing as the bruises inflicted by his colleague a fortnight ago are still obvious. Lots of exercise to exhaustion while lying down, while being held firmly by a lovely fit young gentleman.

There are worse ways to start the day. Also the cafe with the best cinnamon rolls anywhere has reopened, so I treated myself.

Sympathy on the credit card fraud - had some last year which was a pain to sort out. Always have a spare bank account and cards for use when one gets stopped! Though not as bad as when we had to make a car insurance claim. The insurers had to send everything in the post thanks to all the scammers we kept hanging up on (and them). "We understand you have been in a car accident that was not your fault." was a really common scam at the time, and much worse if you actually had been...

I actually got some writing done on one of my novels yesterday evening! It was the first words of fiction I have written in almost two weeks. Hopefully, I can keep the momentum going and I can crank out a first draft of this one (only expecting 70-80k) in the next couple of weeks. We'll see.

But first, I have to do some more cleaning up today -- my sister and her new boyfriend (if someone is almost 80, can they be a "boy"-friend?) are visiting for a long weekend Friday-Monday. So probably not much writing this weekend. 😥

I hope everyone else is doing as well as can be hoped.

Huge brain dump going on now... 😵

In 2022 I wrote two sci fi stories based on nanobots, AI, spies, and bad guys. I had mentioned ideas to complete the trilogy in a story titled AI Era - X Hour with two characters borrowed from another story series - Andi's Dream

This week I finished two big projects and I decided to get it over. I fired up Big Dragon (my PC) sat down and prepared to create a masterpiece... that's it, just write... complete the three-story series... and except for one or two plot points, I FORGOT EVERYTHING . To refresh my memory I edited story 1 and 2 hoping the plan would come back as I reviewed the story... but no luck. I dug through long forgotten folders and found a few notes, I found my plan for the setting, my idea for the climax (which might work) but the few notes I left my future self were sparse and did little more than name characters I already knew about.

Time to make the chimichangas...

2,000 words later and I got nowhere. It's going to be a long autumn.

Some high clouds today but it will still get hot later today. My back is feeling better so I'm going to try to get some chores done before I tweak it and have to lie down again.

There's a fresh pot of coffee brewing and the teapot is hot. There's cornbread on the counter along with donuts a croissants. There's milk in the 'fridge for those who drown their cornbread in milk.

I'll be over in the corner banging on the keyboard as I work on my story. I may have it done months early which means I can get going on another story!

Why would you ruin perfectly good cornbread like that?
Childhood memory flashback. Crumbing hot cornbread into a tall glass, then filling it with fresh milk for dessert. I lived on a farm with a southern family for a while in foster care. It was a dairy farm, so milk came straight from the barn to the house, bypassing the bottling company. [Before milk cartons.]

I remember churning butter as a daily routine.

Your question sparked a glimpse back in time that had been long buried. To your point, perhaps it was an acquired taste, like each to their own, sort of thing

Oh, my!

Speaking of childhood memories, the delight of delights, better than pie even, was maple syrup on warm cornbread! We had to have been very good for that to appear. Pardon me if I'm off in another world for a while.

My favorite way to have cornbread, is my SIL's twice baked cornbread stuffing. o.o Second choice would be as something to dip into soup or chili, otherwise it's just too dry.
