The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 09

They could be Ferrari parts, but they won't fix a Ford.

You guys wanna know something funny about Ferrari parts? I know from hands-on experience that the A/C compressors on the 308 and their other 1970s models were box-stock Chevrolet parts. Many, many other components were from other plebeian makes, but mostly GM. Rolls-Royce master brake cylinders were Buick parts with the ID numbers ground off. $800 from Rolls, $70 from the local Buick dealer. Same part.

But I can also tell you that the internals on Ferrari motors and transmissions are engineering masterpieces. Total artistry, pleasing to the mind and soul. So, to that end, you might think you're resigned to building an Impala of a story, but bear in mind that important bit, whatever it is, is equally at home in a Ferrari 308GTS or whatever you deem it to be.

I have one of those Fords with Ferrari parts stories. It isn't my lowest rated, but it's probably my worst. A respected reader pointed out that it was actually two unrelated stories jammed together. It didn't work, but there were some scenes and a few characters that I could use to good effect in a much better story.

Okay, I gotta finally ask.

I've been deliberately ignoring this thread:

but the thing just doesn't go away... Is it just the predictable shitstorm in there, or are there some nuggets of wisdom that are worth one's time (or at least some that are amusing enough to offset the effort of wading through everything else)?

As someone who got sucked in, I highly recommend you save yourself the bother.

I checked that thread out when it started and it's got more red flags than a Chinese military parade.

Pass.

It's chilly 56) and raining here as well. but that is just warm enough for me to sit out on the screen porch to work. The birds are grump that I haven;t put the feeders back out yet, but I am not going out in the rain in my robe. The tree just off the screen porch still has plenty of berries, so they can scavenge until the rain stops. They are getting fat anyway.

I'm awake. I'm caffeinated. I'm fed. And in a few hours I hand my project back over to the client and no longer have to deal with "Project Management By Freakout."

Once they've got all the documents and code, and I've given a good pep talk to my team, I'm awarding myself a cupcake and getting to work on some fresh ideas for where I want to take my series & characters.

The light at the end of the tunnel is here! :) :) :) :)

Yeah, it's not supposed to be this cool this early. I am worried about an early and long winter.

I was counting on a warm early autumn because my current knee brace does not work well with clothing that comes down past my knee. Hopefully I can get my surgery and be out of the brace before it gets actually cold.

Another beautiful sunny but cool morning. I'm going to try to get some weeding done today. I think I've finally got the Meloxicam flushed out of my system and I'm actually feeling pretty good today. The only downside is that my knee feels stiff but it doesn't hurt so I'll take that over the possible side effects of long-term usage of NSAIDs.

There's a fresh pot of coffee going and there are cupcakes and donuts on the counter. The pumpkins are starting to come in so maybe there will be a pumpkin pie on the counter one of these days ...

I'll be over in the corner working on my story for a while (or is it awhile?) Disregard the loud muttering and multiple voices as I discuss where the story is heading with my characters and my Muse ...

Welcome to Friday! That doesn't mean as much to me as it used to.

I'm gradually working through the rewrite of an old project. The challenge, as is often true, is to find interesting ways to relate events that may only play into the story later. I'm about halfway through revisions for the already-drafted parts, and it's really hard to stay on task instead of jumping to the easier stuff.

We should be warm for this time of year, with a chance of showers.

I recall a recent thread about what we've learned from our time on Literotica, but I can't find it now. Did I dream that or does anyone else remember that?

Uh huh. Welcome to retirement. At least three times a week C is perusing her pill minder, asking, "What day is it?"

The truism I long adopted about retirement is, "Every day is Saturday." Which isn't exactly true, but it sounds good. For one, Saturday means we avoid our usual Mexican place 'cause it's crowded and we can't get a parking space (or table) where we can keep an eye on the dog, and vice versa. Also, the wine bar across the street is given to shutting down the block for street parties on Saturdays. Forget parking, period.

Then, Mondays are significant in our town because most sit-down restaurants are closed. That "tradition", if you want to call it that, is thankfully eroding due to the recent eclipse! We were in the path of greatest totality, it happened on a Monday, and the chamber of commerce pleaded with the community that they not roll-up the sidewalks given the bad impression it was going to leave on possibly thousands of people descending on our little city. A few places held on to the concept, and now we have choices when we didn't used to.

The "beautiful" thread? Almost posted something, but it was already going to Hell when I peeked in. Hard pass; my measured response would not have helped that looming disaster. (Big hint? Discussion about men evaluating women based on their appearance is going to spiral out of control quickly! What's funny/not funny? That very thing is what started Facebook.)

Thank you. On one shoulder, the cinnamon rolls are Sirens calling my name, my doctor is on the other is shaking her head, "We just talked about this."

What I didn't say two weeks ago about my blood tests is that, just like my long-late father, T2 diabetes is now a matter of record. Shit piss fuck... dookie! ...sigh... Numbers aren't horrible, just a smidge over the threshold, but I need to curb a few indulgences such as high-carb sweets. So for the time being I'm hitting the majors I'm pretty sure were spiking my blood glucose. Then there's the being surprised in researching that some of the "bad boys" are common side dishes like potatoes. Those are easy... mostly... to avoid.

Wish me luck. My objective is to push A1C back below the threshold by November with easy-ish diet tweaks. If successful, it won't undo the diagnosis, but it will delay needing medication assistance. The doc did say I'm nowhere close to needing insulin therapy, so I'll take it while I can get it.

So CK, thank you so much for your generosity, but I need to be a good doobie for the foreseeable. 😞
🤞
