The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 09

Ugh, I think I need another proof reader. New chapter is seven votes in at 4.43. Really thought it'd rate higher.

Seven votes isn’t enough to draw any conclusions. It takes something like 50 to establish a level and even then a single low vote has considerable effects.

Fingers crossed it’ll reach H when it’s still on new lists, though. I think that affects the view count some.

Yeah, that's super fair 😩 Idk, hard to not be super critical of it, lmao

It's simple. The character created an internet startup and sold it instead of taking it public.

Another cloudy morning but we are getting a break from the temperatures for the next several days. We got some more rain overnight and the weeds are just loving it.

I've got a fresh pot of coffee brewing and the teapot is hot. There are donuts and cookies on the counter.

I'll be over in the corner working on my story so ignore the occasional cursing when I realize my story is not going well ...

You spend awfully lot of time in that corner, do you at least have a Very Comfy Chair?

The Orgasm Game is live. It's #4 on the New list (contest entry). so far it has 1.3k views (good) and 5 votes. What!? 260 views for each vote?

Thumbs up for having a story out, not for the low vote count. Sounds weird. Is it long? Maybe others didn’t make it till the end yet?

It's only been recently that my story monitor has worked right when a new story went live, so I don't have a lot of information from very soon after they post, which usually happens about midnight, local time. It appears that vote/view is commonly low for the first few hours. Recently, the early votes have been low, but I don't think that was always true.

I have a long-standing theory that early voters are a distinct population.

Good morning everyone.

So... Chapter 10.... is either going to be significantly longer than the rest... or I am going to have to split it into two chapters. (of course I was already splitting ALL of the chapters into smaller ones for the eventual publication)

Last night I hit 11k words... which is around my stopping point... but I am only about halfway, maybe 3/4s of the way through my chapter outline. This could easily go all the way to 20k...

***EDIT***

Also... when I took some time this last weekend to work on splitting the chapters....The beginning of Chapter 10 became the beginning of Chapter 28....so, that's kind of cool. At the rate that Chapter 10 is going, I may have a 40 chapter book on my hands...

I have a series "installment" of 13 chapters that has been rolling out a day at a time since early last week. Not a lot of reads, not a lot of votes, and exactly one comment so far, a "thank you." I wrote it over two years ago and held it back because it went in a fantasy direction I feared might be poorly accepted in GS. But so far, no pushback. GS readers seem to be a laid-back bunch. The style is 1st-person with a fair amount of narrative, which I find interesting in the contrast with my current style, dialog-heavy 3rd-person. The first four installments of this "old" story seemed to go over well, but that was 3-4 years ago.

Which brings me to the recent big uptick in LitE submissions. When my stories fall off the first page of the "new" list the same day published, I can't help but think something strange is going on. Did another publishing site pull the plug and their vast hoard suddenly jump on LitE as an outlet? Are all most of the new authors actually AI drones of some sort? Things used to be relatively cozy, but now it seems like it's impossible to break through the noise. Anybody keep track of submission stats, say, over the past 5 or 10 years?

Why do you think there's been a big recent uptick in submissions?

There were 187 new stories posted today, and the average over the last seven days is 200 new stories/day. That is definitely up from 2017, when I tracked new stories daily and it averaged about 80 stories per day. I didn't keep track of the stories/day in 2020, but I checked frequently because it amazed me. The current number is well below what the site was getting in 2020, when 200 would have been a slow day, and some days were over 300.

Didn't realize that, probably because I was also in the crowd incentivized into a non-social pastime by the pandemic. Just a feeling, but I think there was a big drop-off after the world reopened, and what I'm sensing is a more recent uptick.

Were there that many erotica writers on Wattpad?

i think I read @NotWise 's question the wrong way. I read it as "there's been an uptick in submissions, what causes for that do we think may exist?" and I think he meant it as "the evidence I am seeing does not support your conclusion, so are you seeing evidence that I might be missing?"

I never spent much time on Wattpad so I don't know exactly what they're doing over there.

I saw no big drop in my occasional checks. All I saw was a gradual decline. If anything, our current 200/day is lower than it was a few months ago when I remember ~240/day being common.
