The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 09

Took my dog to the vet expecting to get news about hip dysplasia because of the way he was walking and instead found out he has a terminal cancer diagnosis with a tumor that could rupture and kill him without notice. So we just got chicken nuggets and fries and are enjoying his favorite sun spot this afternoon before he goes across the rainbow bridge this evening to see his sister who passed two years ago.

This sucks. If you have a furball at home or just want to go find a furball at someone else home please go give them a hug for me and Deacon. He helped me fight the depression demon last year but it is time for him to rest and I will find a way forward.
I have found that the best way to honor a true and loving companion after 'setting them free' is to pay forward the love they gave you. Since I lost Duleigh, I made sure there was always a rescue dog at my side. In the words of Leif Rasmussen, it's not fair that someone so loving is only with us for 10 years or so, but there's someone waiting for you. My replacement for Duleigh was an angry little cockapoo that was a breeding bitch that ran away from a puppy farm. She HATED everybody and everything... except me. And I kinda like that.

I have had three dogs as an adult. All of them have been rescues and I imagine the next one will be too. My two German Shepherds were Preacher (RIP, 2014) and now Deacon. I know Bishop is just out there waiting for me to find him. In a year or so when the pain isn't as bad.

Deacon would have been born around the time that Preacher passed and so our family lore is that Preacher met Deacon and told him all about us and then sent him off to find us. Being the goof ball he is he got lost for a couple years but made it to our family when the time is right. I am going to believe this is now a relay race and Deacon will do the same with Bishop before he walks off to the perfect sunspot with his sister Tula and to catch her and Preacher up on everything we have been up to since Tula arrived two years ago.

Another bone-chilling morning here. I've got a fresh hot pot of coffee and the teapot is ready for those who want a cuppa. There is an assortment of donuts on the counter and there's a new supply of Coffee-Mate next to the coffee machine.

I got some writing done and I am feeling more confident that I will be able to get more writing done today.
good luck! set a goal in pages or wordcount and get focused! eventually something will squeak thru the gates and I've usually found that once the gate is ajar, something gonna push it open wider!

BTW, it's 16 degrees f here in the mountains, and that's a good 15 -17 degrees warmer than when my son left for work, just after dawn. Suspect we'll be back in the low single digits tonight, maybe even a couple below zero.

I've only had two dogs, and they're still living with their Mom out at the farm.... I need a puppy playdate! We have a blue heeler named Piper, female, 7 yrs old and a cowboy corgi (1/2 corgi, 1/2 cattle dog) named Finn, male, 4 yrs old.

This is Bourbon Street, New Orleans 01/21/2025

Some say this is proof of a coming ice age
Those of us in the know say that this is proof that

The BUFFALO BILLS are coming to New Orleans in 3 weeks!

Let's go Buffalo!

It's barely over 0 (F) here. Not sure what the 'feels like ' temperature is but the prediction for tomorrow is even colder. And more snow.

Here it's 2C in the day, -2 at night, so just cold, damp and slippery. On the plus side, there's a pub I've started going to for an hour each week (family member has an appointment next door). I think I've been there 6 times now. I now get my usual drink waved wordlessly at me when I walk in, various banter, and a small dog has made friends. The dog insists on sitting on a bar stool at the bar, despite the obligatory tipsy Irish regular arguing it's his seat. Apparently the dog howls if left on the floor, so they just tell Dave to shut it, instead. Today had crap football on, so everyone was united in slagging it off. Even the dog. And teaching the barman to say "Man, that was fucking bollocks!" with a bit less of a Polish accent. Except the dog.

My lovely Jo bought me a digital copy of Powers of Darkness: The Lost Version of Dracula by Valdimar Ásmundsson (unofficial and unlicensed Adaptation), Bram Stoker, and Hans Corneel De Roos (Re-Translation back into English). Ole Icelander Vlad translated and adapted Dracula from a Swiss Translation of the original way back in 1901!!!!

Classic horror, before movies when the writers knew how to twist an image out of your subconscious. Why waste millions creating a picture to scare someone when you could paint a picture with words and let the reader scare himself.

So Pops has grown fonder of his Keurig since he found the strong button. It brews it much slower and makes the coffee richer as well as stronger. I still prefer my French press. Speaking of French press, I think I'll have a cup of Darjeeling tea. Wait, I don't use a French press for that.

You can, I use my french press for large mugs of loose leaf tea.

ARRGGGH three AM and the power is out all over the North West corner of my county. It's 27 degrees and raining (there's the problem) and not a hint of global warming anywhere! Of course we don't have kerosene heaters here, it's Florida. Why would we want kerosene heaters in Florida?

This morning is seven degrees warmer that yesterday--giving us a whole 13F. I think we'll march into spring from here.
