The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 09

We went out for a nice meal tonight. Because we were in the area, we ate at the korean restaurant around the corner from my son and his partner's former apartment (before they moved back in with us). I had never had much Korean food before they introduced me to this one. I had a nice curry rice bowl with Katsu chicken and a bottle of Peach Soju. Yum.

Another author messaged me this weekend to say that they needed a quick break from their WIP and was like "Let's each write a story for the Crime and Punishment event." So now I'm 1000 words into a story and need to have it finished and polished by the end of the week.

If anyone needs me I'll be the one wearing headphones and always within a few steps of some hot coffee.

It's another cool sunny morning that's going to be in the upper 80s later today. I tweaked my back yesterday and I'm not a happy camper right now.

However, I did manage to make an apple crisp so it's on the counter with some donuts and cookies. There's a fresh pot of coffee brewing and the teapot is hot if you want something to drink.

I'll be over in the corner working on my story and making sure @TheRedLantern has coffee to drink. I'm glad I had my story for the Crime and Punishment story event completed three months ago.

My sad response was for your back, not the apple crisp. That is certainly Love not Sad.

A reader commented on my Summer Lovin' story: "An excellent study in control and ethics." The story did involve ethics and self control, but I'm not sure that being a study in control and ethics sounds like a good thing for an erotic story.

Dry and sunny today with the afternoon high in the mid-80Fs. My weekly trip to the grocery store this afternoon is going to be a little long. My wife and her BFF are going to Nashville to see a show at the Grand Ole Opry, so I'm fixing my own dinners for the next few days.

I had the morning off, and time to think at my medical appointment, so I mentally sketched out the rest of the structure of the stepdaughter story. It is now over 3500 words. Just need to fill in 3 or 4 sex scenes. That will be tricky, since I always find five person sex hard- one person seems to always get sidelined. So I'll leave that for another day, and more coffee.

My draft ended up at 5100 words. It was 500 yesterday so today was productive. Lots of firsts. My first story in 3rd person in many, many years. My first one that used 2 POV characters. My first one with a male POV character.

Right now, the manuscript is perfect. That rare instance when I channeled Infinity directly onto the page. Tim Apple, himself, is about to call and ask to put my Macbook in the Smithsonian because it was humanity's first Perfect First Draft. I will let him after I clear my cookies & browser history, and brush the cupcake crumbs from between the keys.

However, I know someone, a vandal or a gremlin or some other miscreant, is going to break into my apartment while I'm sleeping and change it, and I'm going to wake up and say "what the crap is this crap" when I read it in the morning. Also, now that I'm writing down that idea about "a vandal who breaks into authors apartments and changes their first drafts so that the authors wake up and remember writing all the words but they were better at the time" ... that's a way better Crime and Punishment story idea than the one I wrote today. FFFFU---

Well, that was unexpected. My phone rang and "Suspected Spam" was the ID. On a whim I answered it and a recruiter who saw my profile on LinkedIn asked me if I would be interested in a Works Manager position - 50% wage increase, an additional 17% of my wage into my retirement fund, subsised housing, a car, phone, relocation expenses...

Someone only offers that sort of package if they're desperate and in the middle of nowhere. True on both counts, but it's a good sized town on the coast of Western Australia. Looks like a nice place.

I'm seriously thinking about it.

With cats hunting things. You haven't lived ntil you get up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night and step on a squirrel head. Never did find the rest of it, but my cat wasn't hungry the next day.
Family lore story -- I was too young to remember -- my father's first real job, my mother cooked a fancy meal for his boss and the boss's wife, who was also something of a home style megastar of the day. Not saying who for anonymity reasons, but think Martha Stewart from the previous generation. In the middle of dinner, the cat brought in a bat. I'm not sure my mother has ever quite been the same.

But the cat lived another 16 years.

When I was a teenager I had a cat that would always bring me half dead critters. Until the day that she woke me up with one. I screamed and threw the blanket across the room, which also meant I threw the cat and twitching bird across the room too. I kinda felt bad about it, but at least she stopped after that.

That sounds like a huge change. What's your wife thinking?
