The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 09

Another sunny but cool (49 degrees) morning with highs expected around 80 degrees. I did some watering this morning, disturbing the gamboling rabbits.

There's a fresh pot of coffee brewing and the teapot is hot. Bottled water and sodas are in the 'fridge. There are donuts and cupcakes on the counter.

I'll be over in the corner working on my story, adding some back story in preparation for the big reveal. My Muse is actually working with me at the moment and I'm taking advantage of that and hope to get it done quickly.
 
It's about 65F now and should go over 90F this afternoon--both of those are a little warm for this time of year. The cantaloupe likes it. They set eleven new fruit after I harvested the initial set, and they might even have time to ripen. Warm temperatures will help, but they won't last. I've never had this happen before, and googling about makes it seem uncommon.

Working on Stormwatch - The Clouds of Autumn which should be ready to publish in about 3 weeks, but tomorrow I have to give a lecture on "Transitioning from VHF/UHF FM Radio to High Frequency AM Radio" It's really pretty nerdy, but HAM radio is a life saving skill here in Florida where the weather can get very nasty very quickly.

Nerdy, but present - My Likes It!
 
Today's high is in the 80's, and I gotta go to the store, an hour away, in a dark car with no air conditioner, and non functional windows. It's only 69 out right now, but I might wind up hugging a bag of ice on the way home.
 
Well, we managed not to get too hot on the ride home. :p And we had fun! That doesn't always happen on shopping trips cause none of the adults in the house enjoy navigating through large crowds.
 
Many of the stores I go to are open at 6 or 7 AM, maybe 8. By time I get done at those, I can hit the ones that open at 9 or 10.

I'm usually back home by noon or 1PM, maybe 2 at the latest. In and out and back home before the crowds get going.
 
The only shopping I was ever doing was the grocery store -- I like cooking and I want to shop for myself. I would go off peak usually, so the crowds aren't too bad. I am not big on crowds either, although maybe not as bad as the @NuclearFairy clan. I actually find grocery shopping calming if there aren't too many people.

But I haven't been able to do it for 5 months now. 😥 Of course I can't cook either.
 
I can make some accommodations and I still occasionally cook simple things. If this becomes a permanent situation for some reason, I will need to develop workaround like this. Right now they would just annoy me. And make me resent my knee even more. Tomorrow morning I'm hoping to get a schedule for knee replacement. It will be a few months of significant PT for rehab, but I'm fine with that as long as there is light at the end of the tunnel. Not that I will not complain about the PT while it is happening. But I had just spent 6 months getting myself back to doing most things until my knee gave out the rest away and it no longer responded to PT.

Sorry to rant.
 
two somewhat 'bad' knees BUT doctors here won't do knee replacement after age 80 (so that leaves me out); brother is still hoping to get his done (he turns 75 on Friday). Daughter is getting the 'gel'??? injections because she can't get Medicare until December when she turns 65.

I 'think' I could still get a hip replacement (maybe?) or perhaps only if it breaks and I fall! Hoping for neither tho.

My preference (if I was gonna have surgery) would be to have something done about the discs in my back--most every day I contend with about a '4-5' level of pain/discomfort. Now those are pretty low numbers, one would think, but it is EVERY DAY and most NIGHTS also. And right now it is also in my neck. Ibuprofen time, I do believe.

My brain is doing the same thing to me. It's saying "write write write!" and then I do and it says "this is trash and you suck."
 
Now that I'm feeling human again, I can appreciate the beautiful weather we're having. I may even get out and do some weeding today, time permitting.

I've got a fresh pot of coffee brewing and the teapot is hot. There are donuts and danish on the counter for those with a sweet tooth. Soft drinks and water are in the 'fridge.

I'll be over in the corner working on my Winter Holidays entry. Feel free to stop by and chat. I could use the distraction ...
 
I have to say that some of you make me feel younger. Since most of my human interaction is with college students, they make me feel very old.

That said Emily was saying @MrPixel and I were making her feel like a teenager. I don’t think she meant that in the same way I would mean it if I said it to someone.

There's a good use for StillStunned's writing challenges. You can get that urge out of your system in 300 words or less and relax.

We had little showers on and off last night. It's pleasantly moist as we approach dawn heading into another warm day.

CK's mention of the Holiday contest made me realize that the story banging around in my head could gel as a holiday story.

That's not a bad idea!

What I do these days (and what I did this morning) is to just try to push the story towards something that doesn't make me feel that what I'm writing is pointless. It's a first draft so it's allowed to be bad. Some of the words are going to get cut, maybe some whole scenes. It's fine.

My own opinion of my writing has been my biggest challenge since I started.
 
I don't normally show up in this thread, but out of curiosity, this morning I did. About writing, I have been trying to write a novel for over two years. I think I am abandoning it. I can give facts, I can give what happens, but I can not do character development, and that is the basis for almost all written work. I can do tech papers, I can do analysis. I write my own seminar materials, and can and have beaten the IRS with my analysis of the IRS code and tax court cases, but none of that has anything to do with characters. It is frustrating
