I get flustergated at this time of year. I'm done with hot days, but they're not done ... they keep coming, later and later. Often into October now. One year not too many ago, we had our only 100 degree days of the summer in late September and upper 80s to around 90 are almost common towards the end of the month.

People here are breaking out their parkas. At least a month or more too early for that even her in the Great Soon-to-be White North.

I did that, though granted I could be further south I suppose. But still we need the heat lamp plugged into the well house for a non consecutive twoish weeks a year.

To change the topic to something writing related...

Bought a new keyboard today. I had worn out the previous KB. The 'E' was no longer visible and there was an etched hole where the 'E' was, the 'S' and "A" were almost gone, and well-etched, and 'L' and 'O' were looking pretty unhappy, too. I guess the <delete> key must be a testament to my typing skills, because it is not faded or etched, just relatively clean from being struck every once in a while. Anyway, it was also doing things like suddenly crashing into a repeating keystroke where I had to desperately open the battery compartment to reboot it. While I'm thinking about it, I should remove the batteries before I forget about them and they discharge and leak. I've had to throw away a lot of (sometimes expensive!) portable electronics that have been sitting around neglected, ruined from old, leaky batteries.

New keyboard is the compact Apple "Magic Keyboard". Feels pretty good. Now I'm curious how long the charge is going to last.

The pup, well pup in brain only - he weighs 30kg/65lb, decided that 1am was a good time for a game. Took him for a walk in the crappy weather to try and release that energy - no good. At 2 I took my pillow and blanket down to the couch near his crate area and told him forcefully to be quiet. Didn't hear a wuff out of him until 7, but I'm so tired.

FWIW, my most-favorited story in EC has fewer than 53 favorites, but most of my stories in T/I have more than 53 favorites. Expectations should be consistent with the nature of the crowd you're writing for.

I wouldn;t say bombed, but I have gotten them on two straight days, where I had only gotten two total previously. So relatively speaking yes.

I am happy. I had wanted to finish my draft last night, but it took about an hour of writing this morning. I will let it sit for a while -- I have a course this morning to teach anyway -- then start in on revising. Definitely needs it. It's a sequel. I don't like it as much as the original right now, but it does have some good sex scenes. Maybe my editing can bring it closer to the original. That was the first story where I really felt like I got dialogue right.

It's cool but beautiful day out there today. It's supposed to be nice all day and the rain for three days starting tonight. Enjoy today while it lasts, I guess. I hope everybody had a good night's sleep. Or can take a nap this afternoon.

Finally the weatherman got it right and we got some rain. The almost continuous thunder woke me up a couple of times and despite all of the noise, we got maybe a quarter inch of rain. It's cloudy now and cool and won't get above 70 degrees today.

I've got a fresh pot of coffee brewing and the teapot is hot. There are danish and muffins on the counter. I'll be going to the farmers market today to see what's available.

Until then, I'll be over in the corner working on my new story. Pay no attention to the invectives being thrown around as I try to get the dialogue on paper to match my imagination ... aauurrrggghhh!
