The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 09

My garden got a late start, some so things are just starting to bear. Tomatoes are still a ways off.

Our cats have a new toy they don't know how to play with. That's OK, because it seems to play with itself. It's a small ball with a lighted band around it that flashes and changes color, and it moves on its own. It rolls, and bounces and it can turn or stop when it hits things.

High tech toy. Low tech cats. They might prefer an old sock.
the Feds have changed our 'zone' to 9A so we are probably quite a bit ahead of when you can plant. Kid is starting corn (again) and also cool weather veggies.

Ya know, when I go to the dentist to get my teeth cleaned, it is just over $100. The 'rescue' cat I got after my old girl (age almost 16) went to the Rainbow Bridge after the first of the year--has been a $$$ expense; vet bills for the last month (to include teeth cleaning) have just hit $600; he has had an on-going upper respiratory infection since March and his stomach isn't happy about the 'amoxycillon' meds either. But he is the most loving cat I have ever had, lap time, purrs constantly, makes 'bread' on me, snuggles up next to me at night. Hoping now 'worst' is behind us, at least for a few months.

I see my avatar (of the flower) had been changed but not by me!

Couldn't sleep and now I find my avatar is gone ...

There's a fresh pot of coffee going and the teapot is hot. I made a peach cobbler and it's on the counter along with some brownies and blueberry muffins.

I got some writing done yesterday and hope to get more done today if my Muse will let me ...

About 5-6 days of AC running near non-stop. I thought it was me getting softer. Couldn't sleep without it.

Then the monthly summary came out. Several records for longest duration of high humidity and dew point.

Once that broke, I was back to just needing it for a few hours in the evening.

Hm, I'm sure the new sticky about slow posting of stories said to wait 7 days before getting concerned, but now it says 15:

"A small number of works that require extra attention (edits, Illustrated Works, and other issues that require more time to vet) may take up to 15 days to be processed due to recent high submission volume.
If your story is in your Pending Stories folder and has been pending for fewer than 15 days, please do not click on or alter the submission in any way as that may further delay its publication*
**.

I posted to Reviews and Essays on 1 Aug - I can't imagine it being contentious...

Do I need to keep posting so I don't fade out of existence? I know I've read various books with people fading as a plot point - Phantom Tollbooth? Wed Wabbit? There was the girl in Buffy who became invisible because no-one noticed her.
There was a ST:TNG episode where people are suddenly disappearing from the universe until Dr Crusher is alone on the bridge and there is no universe outside that room.

Brought in cucumbers, gladiolas and jalapenos this morning. I'm going to have to slice and pickle the cucumbers pretty soon. I'm getting overwhelmed by them. Tomatoes are starting to show color, despite the heat. I'll probably start picking them this weekend. New Mexico chiles and green peppers are yet to come.

Oh, I remember that one. Don't remember how it ended but it was freaky.
It was a science experiment by Wesley that went wrong and he figured out how to open a gateway to her before the hole collapsed. I had a character was a star wars junkie and he had made a list of his favorite episodes, so I went through all the plot synopses earlier this year.

Star Trek junkie... He was a Star Trek junkie.

Don't laugh, I barely got put back together in that goddamn transporter beam, before they whisked me away to a med bed, and shot me full of anti-stars-wars-trek-matter. Doctor Crusher, and that bugeyed Admiral Ackbar stood there debating whether to give me a hypospray or beam me into the nearest star. WTF!
I'm trying to picture what Star Wars & Star Trek rehab must be like.
