The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 04: Come On In

I just tried to go for my walk around the park. The south side was blocked off, so I couldn't do the circuit. A film crew was flying large drones overhead to film a black SUV driving down the street. It was a small crew, so there were probably no actors involved.

Parts of the neighborhood have been blocked off for filming for a couple weeks now. That's the first time they've been in my way.

I wonder how much the locality council is being paid for this inconvenience and how that money willl be spent for the community ?

We've had another HOT day. For a while we had >33C which for this season is rather warm.

Time I think, for a large mug of decent Tea.

The film company pays fees to offset the city's cost. What they pay for the inconveniences they cause would be insignificant in a residential neighborhood. They might pay a lot in a retail/commercial area, but I've never seen that divulged.

According to an article in the newspaper here last week, the film industry's direct expenditures in the state was about $525,000,000 last year, and most of that would be in the city. In economic studies I've seen in the past, that direct expenditure would be tripled to define the total economic worth -- so about $1.5 billion.

Thousands of people are employed at least part time by the television and film industries, just in the city. Those are generally good jobs.

As a result of all that money, we give them a lot of leeway.

Man, I take a day off and everyone is up in arms.

Okay, fresh coffee for the evening crowd.

I spent most of the day sweating my ass off in my shop chopping and cut wood. :) Happy days.

Thanks, kind sir.

But much as I love coffee, I'd think you'd be drinking iced tea after a day like you've had.

I enjoy building my wooden boats so the heat is just part of it. I like heat much more than cold. I also have three big fans in the shop that cool things, especially me. The temp was as high as 98 but for the hottest part of the day, the shop has some shade. I really should put in some insulation but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

The high was 79F here, and the low is supposed to be 76F. So much for nighttime radiational cooling...

Cloud cover keeps the heat in or so I'm told. The low here tonight will be 78 or so. About a twenty degree drop under partly cloudy skies.

We have scintillating discussions of the weather -- hot or cold, wet or dry.

I have a character who doesn't much care about the weather. She's balancing family, conservative Roman Catholicism, a need to grow personally, and a new love. How does she deal with the man who raped her when she was twelve, and who her father insists that she marry?

Start listening to Hole?

While I also endorse MichaelGH's solution, I'd recommend something involving a shotgun loaded for bear. Aimed at the father and then the rapist. Or vice versa, ymmv.

I don't know anything about Hole.

Cosima has a 0.3006 loaded for deer, and she knows how to use it, but she also knows that "It's family. That's not the answer." Father Saavedra agrees.

The answer as far as I have it, is that the man who loves her beats the shit out of her rapist, confronts her father, and is rejected by the woman he loves because -- well, because she's confused.

And then we get to the denouement
.

Good plots are always good. ;) It's the details that take the thought and time.

Fresh coffee for the midnight crew.

I just posted two more stories. One is the sequel to my one page tease and the other is my third contest story. One more contest story to go probably for the holiday weekend.

Listening to WHAT ?

The mellifluous vocal stylings of Ms. Courtney Love and friends.

Very possibly not your cup of tea, but if NotWise's story is set in the mid-90s, it'd fit the character as described. Probably not current enough for a modern-day teen though.

Listening to WHAT ?

Round here, holes tend to be 'silent' .
While I contemplate the infinite of a silent hole, I think I'll have a cup of coffee.

Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall...

BTW, there's a spammer flogging "Prop money". How do you report that?

Spammers don't live long around here. I'm happy to say. If Laurel gets an eye on them, Manu drops a hammer. Done deal.It was pop-a-mole around here for a while but....

Fresh coffee for Hump Day. Raisin toast is also available.

90's holes? I must have slept or worked through that pheromone.
