I'm finding this gets easier, the more books I do.

Isn't that how experience is supposed to work?

I have to convince my employer that, while experience may smooth out the bumps, it doesn't change the size of a task. If something is scoped out as a Big Job then it's a Big Job regardless of experience.

I made progress on the new story today even though it was dark and gloomy.

I'm ahead of you. Have mowed the year for the third time this year and am into the wine.

I hope you meant you mowed the yard. :D

The more you give the powers that be, the more they expect. It doesn't work that way but what do they know, they've never done it.

I hope you mean the day was dark and gloomy and not the story. :rose::kiss:

Correct. The story is far from dark and gloomy. :rose::kiss:

We went to a restaurant at the foot of the mountain for a family dinner. The place has a panoramic view of the city and from there I could tell they were filming at the rail yard near here, so we went by on the way home to see what was going on.

Now I'm turning into a pumpkin.

I went to a local Rail Station (it's now part of a charitable trust keeping
the idea of Steam Railways alive) to see if i could find something to photograph.
It was like a ghost town.
And then it rained.
Not a good day; so I need a coffee to put me right

We still have a few steam lines. The only ones I know about run through scenic areas and are run seasonally for the tourist trade.

Afternoon all.

Been busy writing but I'll get over it when the swelling goes down.

The only talk of trains we have around here is the purposed bullet train between Houston and Dallas that the landowners are fighting tooth and nail.

But it's only 240-odd miles !
A bullet train from LAX or Chicago to Idlewild (= JFK) might make some more sense; wouldn't it ?

Another gloomy day but too many interruptions to accomplish much writing.

More bear poop in our mountain meadow this morning. And figs and plums missing from the trees. As long as the bears stay away from our house... Meanwhile I try not to worry about the upcoming global financial scandal or the horrendous doom portended by the upcoming total eclipse. I'll merely worry about bears instead. They're local.

I think the eclipse has been called off because it involves science and we're not having any of that anymore.

No, it's the Elder Gods and the demon spawn from Cthulhu influencing the moon. Soon it'll be glowing a baleful red fire in the sky and the end times will be upon us as the dead rise from their graves and the worms of the earth break free in their ravenous hordes.

Sorry. I've just been reading Robert E Howard. It seemed to fit. Except I think maybe the bears should be devouring isolated villages or something and not mere fruit. That seems a bit to fairy tale-ish.

Ha. :D

Well then, I think nuclear weapons should all be recalled since that involves science too. Or, we could just tell people the eclipse is happening because God is angry with Drumpf. I mean, a number of people have recently professed a belief in his divine mandate to rule.

Oh no. I abandoned the politics board coz it was too exciting. Now it's come here after me. Noooooo .... nooooooo ..... I'd rather have demonspawn. Although if you've read Monster Hunter International, it seems like nukes do have an impact on the Elder Gods.

A whole lot more sense than San Diego to Los Angeles or San Francisco. I have been learning about this new "Federal ID driver's license" that will be needed for air travel after 2020 or a passport. Would it be required for the bullet train?

Some people get so excited about bells and whistles. I worked at a brand new school. The principal ordered a fancy new (late 80s when computers were still a big deal) computer lab, but we had no books of any kind, two pencils per student and some paper. Sometimes the basics are better than whistles and bells.

Let's see. Tomorrow thousands of national supremists and counter demonstrators are set to descend on Charlottesville for day-long demonstrations and rallies (in fact, they'll already started). Oh, joy.

Getting a live feed on FB of the white supremists gathering in Charlottesville tonight for tomorrow. They're crawling all over UVa's Rotunda now (about a mile from me) with torches. There indeed are hundreds of them milling around and filling the quad on the road side of the Rotunda after having walked the Lawn from one side of Jefferson's design to the other.

Thanks Trumpettes for bringing out the worst in people. Since they don't have a permit for this, one can always hope they'll be swept up by the state police tonight and we'll be spared the demonstrations tomorrow.

A bunch of Muslim migrants added to that mix would really do no good, would it !

Breakfast: Coffee. In that order.

We need to throw in a batch of Mennonite biker gangs and Hells Angels too. Sweeten the pot.

Meanwhile, I'm visualizing coffee later this morning. Right now it's oh-dark-hundred hours, I'm only up because I had to pee and I haven't yet toked myself back to oblivion. But the coffee... think I'll take a raspberry blend down to espresso grind and spice it with triple sec ('cause it's on the shelf).

Morning all,

Sounds like everyone is having an interesting weekend. Pretty boring around here, which is good in its own way.

There is fresh coffee and a hot kettle. Help yourself.

And OMG I was joking about Chtulhu Coffee but it's a big thing......

At a large aquarium not far from where I lived, they had a large octopus in a big tank.
"She's called 'Cath' ", said the keeper, proudly.

It was years before I realised that 'cath' was short for Cthulhu.

Coffee, I think.

Guess it's going to be a TV day for me, although I'm trying to do some editing for a mainstream anthology--going between the Rogers Cup tennis in Montreal and violent riots from a white supremacist demonstration that's been going on for three hours a mile from me in downtown Charlottesville. One of the supremacists just plowed into a crowd with his car.
