Choppers, cameras, and apple salad, what more could you ask for. :D

I got 12 hours sleep last nigh. Very, very unusual.

Friends dropped by bright and early this morning. Housemate and both had to dive for jammies in a rush. I ended up with her bottoms and we got some odd looks but no questions. My friends are used ti my oddities.

They brought coffee cake and I supplied the coffee. A good time was had by all. Although, I'm still now sure why they dropped by.

Fresh coffee all around while I swap bottoms with HM. :D

Today will be a slow mover. I'm going to make a big pot of potato/onion/chicken soup because I'm on a 'soft' diet and do some filing. Writing? I fear that for the next few weeks I will have NO motivation.

The Ensign Ful-Vue is a late 1940s simplified version of a camera produced in the 1930s.

The Kodak Brownie is early 1920s but similar ones were made as starter cameras until the 1950s.
.

Coffee? More coffee available with scones, clotted cream and a choice of jam.

I still have my old Aunt's Kodak camera with a little "writing" flap and a leather case. The lens pulled out on sliding rails. There was an Aperture ring and a shutter speed ring. I think the lens was a fast f3.5 !

Scones & clotted cream ? (with Raspberry jam ?)
Lead me to it/ 'them.

I wonder if you have considered how Rosie Palm of the Seamstresses Guild might take a young student (padawan?) under her wing ?
Just a thought. . .

I have! Right now, though, I'm working on a Watch yarn with undercover work, orcs, Überwald and villainous werewolves . . . but in a somewhat desultory manner, unfortunately.

105mm is medium size for artillery and not especially long for traditional photography. That's a 'normal' lens for 6x9cm camera formats like my old folders. I think my physically *widest* lens is a chunky Rodenstock XR-Heligon 120/1.8 xray lens (German). It's 70mm wide and weighs about two pounds (870g) by itself.

Maybe I have something wider? [/me scans lens library] Oh yes, the Rubinar MC 1000 Makpo 1000/10 mirror lens (Russian) is 115mm across the front and weighs about four pounds (1760g). Mounted on a shoulder stock, it looks like a rocket launcher. Use prudently.

BTW here's a nifty cheap trick. I don't know if it works with a Canon metering system but it's just great with Pentax. Obtain a cheap bellows and various lens-mount adaptors for it, and enlarger and projector lenses. ELs are razor-sharp; PLs give a period look. I've found great glass by Nikon, Leitz (Leica), Schneider, Zeiss, others of the best, sometimes literally for pennies. Use them to MAKE pictures, not TAKE pictures.

See here for the general idea)
My Sigma 800mm f8 is a telescopic thing just like them.

I have some M42-fitting bellows and I have used them for some real close-up stuff, which was FUN. I'm trying to locate GOOD f2 Helios (the Mk2 for preference).

I wonder if that Heligon could be made to work with my canon DSLR ?

Happy Sinday. If you haven't atoned yet.... It's probably too late.

In any case, I'm awake far too early so I'll make a fresh pot of coffee and leave some fresh donuts.

The flu epidemic is bad where I live. I volunteer at a local food pantry and Friday we all wore masks and gloves and the clients weren't allowed to touch anything.
But still it seems like I managed to pick up a bug. Woke up Saturday and texted and let them know there was no way I would be in. Slept until about 2 pm, ate some toast and ramen and have spent the day lounging with my pug.
I ache all over. At one point I was so hot I had my kids turn on the a/c! Of course 30 minutes later I was shivering with goosebumps.

And now I can't sleep so I'm working on an old story I bring up every once in a while to add to.

:rose: Stay hydrated and zinc stops replication of virus in the body, could shorten the duration. There are sublingual drops and sugar free lozenges but you have to start it asap. A little food to buffer the stomach, if you can, and I usually do five lozenges over the course of a day.

Zinc spray and massive doses of Vitamin C. Manuka Honey if you can find it (a teaspoon, raw with maybe a little water to) every couple of hours. Take a whole clementine, skin and all and blend it with a bit of water and a small chunk of raw ginger and drink it. Do that every hour or two. The clementine skin has all sorts of stuff in it that boosts the heck out of your immune system and so does the raw ginger. It's also a good preventative before hand - boosts your immune system ahead of time.

I do a smoothie just about every day with a whole clementine, orange, lemon, raw beet, kale and ginger and I've barely had a sniffle the last three or four years. Throw vitamin c in as well, and also lecithin and collagen and calcium but that's to help after the TKD workouts. Groans.

And if I do get a sniffle, then I add the zinc spray, 5000 mg of Vitamin C and shots of manuka honey. There's a few other supplements I take but if I start on those and why I'm going to sound weird.....

And then there's the coffee of course. Really, it's the high levels of caffeine in my blood that kill the bugs.... seriously. In plants, caffeine works as a natural pesticide, so I figure if it works for them.... :D

And now it's time for my medicinal .....

Dark rum, cloves, brown sugar, cinnamon stick, boiling water. PRN.

Won't do a thing for the bug, but you'll feel much more complacent about having it.

Get well soon!

We had the flu back around Thanksgiving and it took weeks for both of us to get through it. It's going through my daughter's community in Chicagoland like wildfire.

I've hankered for biscuits and gravy for a couple days now. I think that's like TexRad hankering for sushi. It's been years since I had biscuits and gravy, so it was odd.

This morning I found all the ingredients in the kitchen and set to it. Sausage, eggs, toast, biscuits and gravy. The gravy came out better than I had a right to expect. The biscuits were only good enough to use as a vehicle for gravy. I rolled them too thin or something.

At any rate, I'm stuffed now.

Sushi is Fish bait in these parts. Sausage, biscuits, and gravy, the second best breakfast in nature.

I must give it a go sometime; it sounds good.
You'll know, of course that what we call biscuits you might call 'cookies'. It seems like your biscuits are near our "scones".

Talk about confusing . . .

And now - coffee !

Only confusing on your side of the pond. :D

One coffee coning up.

Now it makes sense! ...after I googled "scones"

American biscuits are similar to scones, but they aren't usually sweetened. Scones are usually eaten with sweet toppings and biscuits are eaten with savory toppings.

Edit: I blamed myself for the way the biscuits came out, then I started wondering if the biscuit mix could expire. It can. I didn't find the expiration date, but my wife did. It expired eight years ago. It's been sitting in the cabinet, unopened for something like ten years.

That may depend on your region. I grew up eating biscuits with butter and jam. I've never had biscuits and sausage gravy.

A bit of a posh thing to do here, High Tea; some cafe's (tea-rooms) offer it, and I think it is mainly reserved for older ladies on their yearly day out.

I remember High Tea from the Enid Blyton mysteries I read as a kid. Wow, those stories are really dated now.

I did too, but my favorite was actually with butter and maple syrup. My wife's family is from Texas and I don't think the idea of eating biscuits with butter and jam ever occurred to her.

Even though that's my background, I think the number of biscuits eaten sweet pales compared to other uses. I don't think I've ever seen biscuits sold in a diner to be eaten with butter and jam. McDonalds alone sells them by the millions with egg and sausage, and the gazillion Waffle Houses in the South sell them by the ton with sausage and gravy.

I grew up having scones for (high) tea at least once a week. Sadly, I have yet to find a decent scone in the USA.

And fer Gawd's sake - don't say "scone" rhyming with "stone".

"Scone" rhymes with "gone".

I never knew that, or heard it pronounced any other way. So "scone" is yet another exception to the pronunciation 'rule' that a silent 'e' at the end means the preceding vowel should be long.

I guess it's no wonder that English his a difficult language to learn.

Oh, I've done the maple syrup a time or two. I do love chicken and biscuits and I've had a bacon, egg and cheese biscuit from McDs a time or two, though not in recent history.

I've boycotted McD's since I was seventeen. Let's see if I can do the math... ... forty seven years. Damn I'm old!

I got pulled there once when I was a teaching assistant and had to haul a field class student to the nearest place to find food. I bought a milk shake and it confirmed my "I don't care what it costs, I don't want it," opinion.

Years later I was with a client on an early morning trip across state. They thought that McD's was a good place to get coffee. It was terrible. Really. It was terrible.

Yes, I've never had good coffee there. I have enjoyed the food over the years but gave it up after I had my daughter, when sodium became my enemy.
