Do you think that people use the term "addict/addiction" too loosely?

I realize that it is easy to tell a drug addict and an alcohol addict from a tv "addict"...but are the addictions the same? Is a sex "addict" the same as a person who just enjoys the act of sex? Is there such thing as a chocolate "addict"...or a popcorn "addict"? Are the self-proclaimed internet addicts here really internet addicts or just Literotica addicts?

Are all those things really addictions or just bad habits? Is nail biting an addiction or a bad habit?

Also...if there are all those above mentioned addictions and more...then where would a person go to get help for their TV addiction? or their Literotica addiction? or their spider solitaire addiction?

Does the typical AA/NA meeting cover what a TV addict would need to get cured?

~ Disclaimer for anyone reading this: I am just expanding on a coversation I had with a friend the other day who felt that this term was overused and off base for many of today's bad habits. ~

Adictions are physical and psychological.

My wanking adiction is both.

You're neglecting another option. These things could be psychological disorders such as OCD.

You know how some folks are obsessed with hand washing or checking the oven. Well, behaviors, such as eating chocolate or coming to Lit or gambling all share similar traits with people physically addicted to drugs, cigarettes and alcohol.

Biting one's fingernails or not putting the toilet seat down are more likely 'bad habits' than they are addictions.

As far as De Sade's problem- I see a correlation. One's fingers can be sticky from either Nutella or porn. Seek help, immediately! :D

"Addiction," as typically misunderstood, is a symptom. You can take away the shit, but what remains is the question of why the shit became so important in the first place.

Most people are not willing to go there.

So they die. In one form, or another.

and both are equally delicious. My older brother has OCD. He is a clean freak and he recognizes that. Everyone else in the family is sane (insert laughter here).

I was just thinking the other day how the internet, and specifically Literotica, might attract a number of people who are either ADD or OCD, or have those tendencies.

I know that Literotica often feeds my need for speed, and my hunger for sensory input.

...I forgot to mention that I am addicted to Ruby's avs...;)

Yes I think people do use the term addict way too much. Or any word related to it i.e. "Nymphomaniac, Alcholic, Cleptomainic, etc"

Oh yeah I have been addicted to those for a while.

I'm adicted to the Lit. I depend on it. It won't let go of me either. I can't go anywhere like this. I wish the end comes sooner than later.

So, I would ask, why do you hunger for sensory input. And why, would you look to the internet for sensory input? Wouldn't a walk with a friend (or child?) provide some good sensory input?
