I've just ordered my first bottle of Sebor Absinth a couple of days ago and I can hardly wait to try that stuff out! Has anyone else tried Absinth? What can you tell me about it? I WANTA KNOW! :D

Absinthe is disgusting. It's popular here again, thouhg even the bars won't serve people more than two shots of the stuff.

However it is a sure fire way to get very very drunk. Just dont plan to do anything the nest day.

Yes

Very strong-tasting...

Were you able to get your hands on the real thing? That has been outlawed here in the u.s.
You can get some copies of it, but you can't get the real thing...at least that's what a wine-grower friend of mine told me.

He was able to order some from Europe through a friend of a friend, and I was able to try it. You have to like licorice, which I am not fond of.
I had mine poured over a sugar cube through a slotted spoon.
Watch out for the Green Fairy....legend has it she lives in the Absinthe and she will steal your soul! Romantic, huh?

Be careful, if you buy absinth from the czech republic and that sort of country, you're practically buying pure antifreeze.

It's legal here again, we can buy it in 750cl bottle.

Wonder if I can set up an export busines to the US as another american friend asked me about it. :)

A friend was drinking the stuff in a Paris bar.

We didnt find him for 3 days.

When we did he had no memory of where he'd been.

Isn't it also called Wormwood.

the really good stuff numbs your mouth like an anaestethic and leaves a nice anis-seedy taste behind
the cheap imitation will taste salty and won't have the same tingling/numbing effect.

god i love living in europe :D

The Wormwood is the plant which gives absinthe it's psycho effects.

I have a bag of the stuff as well!

mind you, the good stuff is also really expensive... but like a bottle of brunello 1996... worth every penny if you know what you like

No problem, its not that far from u to me.

I have a bag of wormwood and a bag of skullcap. You an buy them in health stores in England. A good mate of mine brought it back with him.

Absinthe...

Absinthe, like mescal can really fuck a person up. I tried some once and I am very grateful I did not wake up in prison. 1. It tastes like Pernod, which is some nasty ass shit to begin with. and 2. You'll be able to hear snails crawl for the better part of the day after you wake up. Its considered an addictive substance here in the US, so don't get carried away. My friends were with me when I did this, so I know they wouldn't let me do anything too stupid...be with someone you trust with your life....just in case! :)

i drank quite a bit of Absinth but ummm... nothing happend to me - HONESTLY. *coughing* well, apart from flashing at the bartender - but that was honestly just to get our drinks faster *coughing*

but i agree with Rhys... as with any unknown substance make sure you have people who you trust and best to one designated (semi)sober person with you :)

:D

:D

They tell me that I drove a car into a curb in the red light district of Amsterdam, and they hauled my ass out of there before I could be arrested for illegal parking. I guess I was enjoying the view too much or something. :)
I am wondering why they let me drive....:)

110 proof - it should be!

Were you able to get your hands on the real thing? That has been outlawed here in the u.s.

Its illegal to produce and sell - but perfectly legal to import and use. You can buy a bottle and have it shipped to your door from this website.

He was able to order some from Europe through a friend of a friend, and I was able to try it. You have to like licorice, which I am not fond of.

If your friend charged you more then 80 dollars, you were cheated. That's how much I got mine for - if it wasn't for the fact it was being shipped from England to the states, it probably would have been cheaper.

I had mine poured over a sugar cube through a slotted spoon.

Yes... very... :p ;)

ok

Good to know that you can finally order it here.

Good for one of those very memorable occasions.
Definitely something out of the ordinary!

I believe a new "safer" version of absinthe has been made legal in America - the real stuff is still illegal, and not just in the US. (Banned in the US in 1912)

The real stuff: "the green fairy" a green liqueur made partially from wormwood, and anise-flavored has influenced the lives and works of many artists/writers/actors/musicians - Verlaine, Rimbaud, Wilde, Van Gough, Picasso, Poe, Hemingway, and Jack London are just a few.

It also made many people insane (including, it could be argued, Verlaine, Rimbaud, Wilde, Van Gough, Picasso, Poe, Hemingway and Jack London.)

Real absinthe is 120-140 proof... and the wormwood - do you know what wormwood does when it gets to your head? Well if you drank too much of the stuff, wormwood gets in your brain and starts to eat away at it, like a termite munching on the beams from a house. Once you're brain has been eaten away, you're pretty much fucked, mortally speaking.

BTW: Tryed it...

It was actually pretty smooth. It was the real stuff. I tend to think really odd stuff when I'm drinking it...

Think I'll have another shot of it! ;)

Blushingrose

Sorry to jump in here...but I had posted a couple of comments a little bit back in this thread. I love the pic you did for Blackbird.
That is great!

And Blackbird, do be careful with this stuff...they didn't outlaw it for nothing...hehe!
It really will take you places in your mind...but it eats up brain cells, too.
Just be careful.
