I think because Scorcese directed it  Certainly, I DID NOT watch it to see MJ (groan) Much more a Siouxsie, Smiths, Bauhaus, Love and Rockets, Joy Division, Nina Hagan, Lena Lovich gal myself . . . The one think about the 80's I do have to give credit to the fact that when you went to a club they played a mix of music, which included alternative . . . unlike most today.

Probably a huge dissapointment to some, but by the end of the 80's, I'd totally swithed to country music.

Livin', lovin', drinkin' and diein' was something I could relate to.

Too old to change now.

I love Tammy Wynette and if you put On Patsy Cline's "Crazy" I get alll swoony.

*rummaging through the CD collection for Patsy's greatest hits*

I gotta see you swoon

I'm only a state away....it's better when I have a few beers in me...LOL.

Does anybody remember the Vic 20?

When Digital Watches were cutting edge?

When every kid wanted an Atari?

Wasn't that during the 80's?

Atari def, I thought, but as for the others, hm. All I recall is renting VCRs because barely anyone owned one of those clunkers. What's Vic 20? What's a watch

I started listening to a lot of country in the 90's . . . it was the only group producing stuff that I liked.

Big hoop earings...I had so many...lots of black eyeliner...big hair...shoulder pads...OH MY GOD....

I was Ms. Columbus in 1985

The Madonna song for my 80's was more like "Like a Virgin". ;)

Guns and Roses!!!

"Miami Vice"

"Terminator"

Peg-leg jeans

Billy Idol

Satellite dishes were as big as a house and nothing was subscription. :D

Most of my memories of the 80's are bad ones. My first wife died, which was sad and I married my second wife, which was even worse. Besides AIDS which did not effect me directly, I was paying an ARM with double-digit interest. I wouldn't want to go back there.

I am sorry that the 80's were a bad time for you. They were probably so sweet for me precisely because I wasn't worrying about things like double digit ARMs and, at that time in my life, everyone I loved seemed immortal.

I am very sorry for the loss of your wife. :rose:

Luck to you,

Yui

I think the 80s ruled. By comparison, the 1990s sucked.
Vincent, you rule.

I think there is no question that the 80s brought us better music than the 90s. And I do miss things like the big albums with the cover art, the video games of the 80s (Intellivision, Atari), and music videos.

I can't get this song out of my head these days, and I think it sums things up pretty well:

"1985"
Debbie just hit the wall
she never had it all
one Prozac a day
husbands a CPA
her dreams went out the door
when she turned twenty four
only been with one man
what happen to her plan?

She was gonna be an actress
she was gonna be a star
she was gonna shake her ass
on the hood of Whitesnake’s car
her yellow SUV is now the enemy
looks at her average life
and nothing has been alright

Bruce Springsteen, Madonna
way before Nirvana
there was U2 and Blondie
and music still on MTV
her two kids in high school
they tell her that she’s uncool
but she still preoccupies
with 19, 19, 1985

She’s seen all the classics
she knows every line
Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink
even Saint Elmo’s Fire
she rocked out to Wham
not a big Limp Biscuit fan
thought she’d get a hand
on a member of Duran Duran

Where’s the mini-skirt made of snake skin
and who’s the other guy singing in Van Halen
when did reality become T.V.
what ever happened to sitcoms, game shows
(on the radio was)

Bruce Springsteen, Madonna
way before Nirvana
there was U2 and Blondie
and music still on MTV
her two kids in high school
they tell her that she’s uncool
but she still preoccupies
with 19, 19, 1985

She hates time make it stop
when did Motley Crew become classic rock?
And when did Ozzy become an actor?
Please make this stop
Stop!
And bring back

Bruce Springstein, Madonna
way before Nirvana
there was U2 and Blondie
and music still on MTV
her two kids in high school
they tell her that she’s uncool
but she still preoccupies
with 1985

Boy George!

Just had to yell it because 'Do you really want to hurt me' has turned into a tv commercial that just infected my ears :D

How could I forget...

Donkey Kong. Originally named Monkey Kong, there was a problem in the translation between the USA and Japan. Big, hairy gorrlia throw barrels at Mario who tries to save the girl. I never got to the top row.

The automatic teller machine (ATM) made its breakthrough in the 1980's. Sure, internet banking became a great convenience in the 90s, but the ATM allowed us to get actual cash - hard currency - from a macine with a plastic card. How great was that? Cash in the middle of the night, or on a Sunday, or miles from home.

At the beginning of the 1980s few homes in America were wired for cable TV. By the end of the 1980s most homes in America had access to cable television. Things like Direct TV are great for recieving lots of different channels, but it was the standardization of cable that got us all used to a perfect picture and no longer needing the struggle with rabbit ear antennas (anyone remember antennas) to get reception.

This one has been stuck in my head for two decades!

Desert loving in your eyes all the way
If I listen to your lies would you say
I’m a man without conviction
I’m a man who doesn’t know
How to sell a contradiction
You come and go
You come and go

Karma karma karma karma karma chameleon
You come and go
You come and go
Loving would be easy if your colors were like my dream
Red, gold and green
Red, gold and green

Didn’t hear your wicked words every day
And you used to be so sweet I heard you say
That my love was an addiction
When we cling our love is strong
When you go you’re gone forever
You string along
You string along

Every day is like a survival
You’re my lover not my rival
Every day is like a survival
You’re my lover not my rival

I’m a man without conviction
I’m a man who doesn’t know
How to sell a contradication
You come and go
You come and go

How could I have missed a thread about the 80's containing Boy George. Boy confused me. I was only 10 so I really didn't "get it." But I was in love with him, to the alarm of my parents.

Turns out... they were right. Blame it on Culture Club Mom!
