The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

The ones in real time, like the news, were most challenging for him. They often lagged way behind. He could also lip read so the lag confused him at times. He would pause the show and ask me what they were talking about.

Movies were much better for him.

Close captioning isn't all that for live stuff.

They could call it far captioning and be closer . . . .

Thank you, H! 😘

We have a telescope but my husband never set it up. I have seen some attachments that will hold the phone's lens next to the eyepiece in order to take photos.

It might be cool to try it in the boat. But, since my default energy level is permanently set on "lazy," it probably won't happen. I'm used to using my phone; it has 100X zoom.

Yeah, but you bake stuff, so you have Purpose.

This sad but typical in the elderly. Is the dr just going to medicate? PT might be helpful for her if she would go.

She saw the NP this week and got the dope. She sees the MD on two weeks to get . . . whateverthefuck he intends to do. There should be some kind of Magic Splooge they could shoot into the crevices to make it feel more gooder. I have no idea.

Better medicine through engineering or something.

Up. KInda. Coffee. Morning errand later. Gotta go to the doctor's to reinstall her shower curtain rod which she fucked up a few weeks back. Fucking compression rod. Never did like the things. Meh.

If that guy ever sells Frankenmotor, you'd be a candidate for a flathead donation.

There also be Ford bits still everywhere. Twenty years ago, you could buy a new surplus Ford flatheads block that the French military had left over. Seems they made the things until the 70s. The blocks were kinda spendy.
That’s pretty wild… bever knew that!!

That was close enough to invoke the spirit of Max Splodge!

Two pints of lager and a packet of crisps please!

I priced one when I was on a wee flattie kick and got stuck on Fords for a hot few minutes. I Googled one up: brand new, surplus, in the crate or whatever, and IIRC it was $2500. It's kind of a bastard, part 8AB and part the last one. Nonetheless, they work and use the same rest o' the goodies. I think they were allegedly cast from a bit better grade o' metal, too.

I’ve learned more about apples, apple trees and flathead fords that I thought possible.

Sorry that the Tigers lost this morning. I made it to the 13th inning…

It was a very up-and-down season and they got halfway through the playoffs and took the Mariners all the way to the brink…

Not a bad year!
It was an up and down year. Advanced stats indicated the first half was a fluke. They eventually regressed to the mean. But I did not expect this much regression. Overall an improvement and progress.

There is hope as it is a young team and the farm system is loaded with talent.

I have been blessed as a young man I watched the 68 World Series, then the 84 World Series. I hoped for more from the Leyland teams but they were fun to watch

Damn, HDH… when it rains it pours!

Hope your uncle is doing better, and soon. Blood clots can be extremely painful. Ouch.

And dangerous.

Hope your mom gets some relief too.
No doubt. Thanks brother. I’ve seen more doctors offices and hospital floors this year than I ever have. I don’t recommend it.

Uncle pulled through his procedure with flying colors. He had blood clots (haven’t heard why yet?) on his lungs and in his legs. He had a mini-stroke last April and is in assisted care. They couldn’t get a cath in his lungs due to his pacemaker, so they ran two smaller vibrating lines to each lung (our nurses can probably tell us the actual term!) along with meds that break up the clots. It only took an hour but when we went in to see him in ICU he looked like Darth Vader with all the hook ups, drips, and individual (at least 8) monitors for each drip!

Spent most of the day out with my cousins which gave us a chance to catch up. I just found out one owns two pasture poodles…who knew? I’m going to try and worm my way into a couple of riding opportunities!

Momma couldn’t attend the hospital visit as her radiation treatment side effects kicked in but we’re going out today. It’s rainy and dreary, so we deal with that. Everyone have a great weekend!

I never read too much of heavy metal, but I did like the old Judge Redd, and 2000 A.D. comics in the 80s. They were fun and some of them were very, very funny.

My favorite character: Abelard Snazz. The mad scientist ā€œgeniusā€ with a double-decker brain. And four eyes. With his glasses, I guess he was in eight eyes.

His hair brain schemes always backfired on him and created more trouble!

Didn’t they make a movie of Judge Redd? I’ve seen that pic before, either in memes or something else. I’ll check it out.

Heavy Metal mags started making the circulation through Junior High when one of my friends got into a much older siblings stash. That was right before the movie hit the big screen around ā€˜82ish. Saw that cult classic and was a fan, although an on and off reader over the years. I like the Aaon Flux animated series MTvee used to show also.

There were a couple of French subtitled Steam Punk style films I can’t remember the name of that were good. I’ll have to track those down.

If I had to break it down, I just think the cover art captures the imagination. Lots of famous people did them, Frank Frazzetta was one, known for the Molly Hatchet covers, a band that was wildly popular in my neck-o-da-woods back then. There are Tons of others, Luis Royo being one of the more famous.

Wow, 8 Tracks, love it, great sound for the time, but so impractical. I had a friend who built frames for old 4tracks and 8tracks, I think 50 or so fit, fun stuff.

If i started digitizing my albums, i would need a few years! I did convert to MP3 my CDs a few thousand of em! That took a while! 🤭
I’m guessing my CeeDee collection is north of 500. I attempted to copy them all…got bored or my short attention span kicked in and never finished the project.

Physical format is making a comeback, vinyl, CeeDees, and I’m even hearing cassettes now? šŸ™„. I bought a small CD player a guy I follow on Oracle of ALL Knowledge suggested (CheapAudioMan) and it came straight from China…two months on a boat. šŸ™„.

Anyhow, it’s the first leg of an audio build I’ve been starting and stopping for over a year…

We have intense worker bee’s in this here greasy spoon…and then us procrastinators! 🤣.

The bulging disks could be the source of her pain. They put pressure on the nerves that exit the spinal column at that particular level. PT is very good for this. I'm glad Mrs H is on the alt tx. Although I don't blame Momma for not wanting to use the inversion table. It can be uncomfortable at best and dangerous at worst for the elderly. Being head down increases intracranial pressure which could lead to a stroke.

How did your uncle do? They likely inserted a catheter into the pulmonary (lung) vasculature and gave him a dose of a clot busting drug. Pulmonary embolism (blood clot) is extremely dangerous.
One thing I should add about the inversion table. I always have used the tether, which only allows you to go to 30deg…I’ve never even gone full inversion on it…If I’m telling you the truth…I may be a little afraid of it myself!šŸ˜‚
