The 2025 750 Word Story Challenge Support Thread

12 hours in, 4.29 (much higher than I expected) and a little over 100 views.

I agree with everything you said.
I just can't picture Walt Whitman, Henry David Thoreau, or Henry Wadsworth Longfellow hanging out in Coffee shops, specialty bars, college campuses, bookstores, etc... Edgar Allan Poe on the other hand probably did all that and it's probably where he got his weird ideas and plot lines.

(BTW, those four are why I don't write poetry... I will NEVER come even close to their brilliance or agility with the English language)
I've written a few poems, but they rhymed. Now, my adoptive father would make up alternate song lyrics while singing the song and other versions playing on the radio. Oddly, he didn't write poetry; "I asked why not?" He said, "Because poetry is serious and only does silly rhyme.
Give alliterative poetry a try! Apparently there's a revival going on, which makes me very happy, because I've been saying for thirty years that it's far better suited to the English language than rhyme and metre are.

Could be an interesting challenge: I'm starting on a 750 Word story based on that (tentative title: Going Up? Going Down!). Would you be interested in writing a similar story?
I'm putting the finishing touches on my elevator story. Once it again, it went in a different direction. It will now be my first NonCon story, with a main character who's a nasty piece of work indeed. I have a feeling the scores on this one will be going to the sub-basement. If so, I'll consider it a success.

OK, who did that? C'mon, own up.

One of you just bumped it up to the magic 4.5 which is ..... coooooolllll.

I tell you what, let me read yours and I'll see if I can come up with the inspiration to write one that compliments yours, kay? my 'seration is running kinda' thin lately. I know what I need to get it back, but it just hasn't been available. :(

I just submitted it to the NonConsent category; I'll reply to this post when it's published. I'm looking forward to the hate comments.

Down, down, down .... low vote counts makes even one or two cause changes.
Yep, someone hit mine with a 2. Then a couple of 4s or 5s came straight after. I couldn't be bothered doing the maths, but the score's creeping back up.

up, down, down, up, down.... he sounds a bit one-dimensional to me.... :)

Even with high vote counts. Mine clawed its way up to 4.29 from about 130 votes, the next morning it was 4.19 with 10 votes more. Now it's at 4.18 from 157 votes. The last three votes I've had have totalled 6 stars.

Lots of engagement - 1 vote per 15 views, 1 comment per 200 views - but something in the story is triggering some anger. Maybe the incest, maybe the cheating, maybe the revenge, maybe the unlikeable characters, maybe the open end... Actually, there's a lot not to like. :)

^^^ Down to 3.94 with 16 votes and 235 views.

I knew they'd hate it.

SciFiers don't seem to be big on 'existential cosmic horror.'
Well, for what it's worth, I liked it :giggle: BUT I can understand why some readers may have been hoping for a sexual component (even if just insinuation or teasing) to the story!
Existential cosmic horror on Lit: would that be H.P. Lovecraft being gangbanged by BBC?
That would have been the scariest thing imaginable for poor ol' racist Howard Phillips
