The 2021 Geek Pride Story Event: Official Support Page

You guys are killing me. I’ve been trying to avoid talking about Magic because I will not shut up about it and there’s so much there.

This is actually why I sent my story to two friends to edit - a geek and a non-geek. I want the non-geek to be able to enjoy the story without being overwhelmed by references and inside jokes. If I talk too much about Fifth Edition D&D vs. Second Edition D&D, my readers won't want to take off their pants.

*visibly shaking*

Must. Resist. Mentions. Of non-weapon proficiencies.

So I shouldn't throw in a THAC0 joke either?

There ARE Thac0 jokes?

Brain disappears in a burst of flame and burnt out neurons. One more dinosaur extinct ;)

Oh, God, please let there be THAC0 jokes.

Do NOT listen to my advice. I added mentions of when armor penetration and resilience were stats in World of Warcraft and I’m not taking it out, even though I should.

Need more Dark Iron ore so I can make Fire Resistance plate so I can tank Ragnaros!

Gordo: Non-weapon proficiencies and Thac0 are terms from the D&D rules vocabulary.

Without going into too much detail:
In D&D and its evolution Advanced D&D (AD&D), each character's abilities was measured in six statistics (STRength, DEXterity, CONstitution, INTelligence, WISdom and CHArisma). Also, when choosing a class
like fighter or wizard, you were given a set of weapon proficiencies which listed the weapons the character can use without penalties. Non-weapon proficiencies were skills the character are especially good at, like acrobatics or gambling.

Thac0 is an acronym for "To hit Armor Class 0". Armor Class in D&D and its derivates is a measure of how hard it is to hit an opponent. It usually - subject to rules revision - includes things like actual armor, but also bonusses derived from dexterity and magic. In the early editions of (A)D&D, Armor Class was counted down, so AC0 was pretty good and AC10 was very bad. As an aid to speed up play, Thac0 was a calculation aid.

In more recent editions of D&D, AC goes up. The higher, the better. So as a player, you only need to add up all your bonusses to figure out what's the highest AC you can hit when rolling for attacks, thus making Thac0 obsolete.

I looked and looked and looked, but couldn't find a good THAC0 joke anywhere.

However, I can say Bahamut and Tiamat show up in my story.

Dungeons and Dragons was my opportunity to get revenge on my kids for the humiliating Magic:The Gathering shenanigans they threw at me. I was always the dungeon master, so at any point I could conjure up some crazy shit to smack their little fantasy characters down. Ah, the geek power. It felt good.

I'm writing mine at the moment, it involves something you don't often see in Literotica stories, not even Incest/Taboo - triplets.

As a recent convert to RPG computer games, this is educational but a bit scary.

Would turning up at a hotel not realising a Star Trek convention was going on work?

Only saying as it happened to me once.

"Live Long and Prosper" has a nice ring to a porn story 😁

...OK, I'm borrowing this idea. I don't think I'll use Star Trek but there's a lot of niche fandoms out there...

I'm working on a Star Trek cosplay story and I've got a title worked out that I really like, but it's not that one.

If you like it, go for it.

What a great idea for a geek story -- a geek thread that turns into an erotic event.

I still have a screenshot of a Facebook dungeons and dragons post where a DM was asking about Strahd introduction in a Ravenloft campaign, since he’s a pretty manipulative and fun bad guy. And the most liked reply was, “These answers are why Strahd’s real name is daddy.”

It’s completely believable :D

You're not playing in my Curse of Strahd campaign. My DM is running a game mixing Hammer Horror with a hint of 1970's Spanish filmmaking thrown in. Our Strahd's pure evil.

The sessions after we had dinner at Castle Ravenloft I legit had to go get my old teddy bear to sleep with that night. *shudder*

I'm glad we have a Geek Pride Day for ya'll. I think it should be an official Lit event, but I'm not going to be part of it. [shudders and walks away].

There’s a joke to be made somewhere in this context about “attacks of opportunity”, I just don’t know what that joke is just yet. :)

I've written my entry for the Event, but I would appreciate a second pair of eyes on it. If no one here bites, I'll go to the Editor's Forum, but I thought someone here might be interested in a beta-reading swap. My story is 16,000 words, and the basic plot is a bunch of new roommates break the ice with strip poker, but most of them are aliens. Would anyone be willing to read it for me and give me their thoughts before the Event starts?

Nouh

I could probably do that.

My draft is 25k of a First Time story, only less sweet and innocent than your usual First Time. Set in the early 90s before mobile phones and pagers became common. I'd like someone to check for general flow and consistency (I keep finding names and descriptions that belong to much earlier drafts) but mainly for anything totally incomprehensible to the average American.

The below-average Americans will just have to lump it and send their representative Anon to whinge in comments, but I like to supply enough context to reward the Americans who put in the effort to read my stuff.

I'm convinced there's a better title and tag line I could use - currently I have 'Third Time Getting Lucky - Instant messaging engineers engineers' relationship' (protagonist has a date with person A, then a sexual encounter with B, then a relationship starts and finally sex with C)

Broke through my writer's block! This time, it's gonna be a bit of Urban Fantasy, with a heroine fresh off the monster hunter academy. 19,000 words in three days is a good sign I'm going somewhere.

Now to finish in time. I hope my editor has some room around the 20th...

That's awesome! I like the description you just gave, and looking forward to learning more!
