The 2021 Geek Pride Story Event: Official Support Page

So, the "powered-armor pro wrestling" idea isn't coming together like I hoped. There might still be some legs in it, but for now I'm thinking I might fiddle with a new idea.

So, I've done a couple of stories that BlindJustice referred to as "Adult Super Sentai", basically taking the tropes of Power Rangers / Super Sentai and putting my own spin on them, adding in some erotic content along the way.

In Japan, Super Sentai has a sort of companion franchise -- Kamen Rider. A little darker, a little more violent, and more focused on lone heroes rather than an established team.

I might even have this take place in the same setting as my "Strike Force" stories. Anyway, just thinking out loud.

You've got mail!

There's a lot of that going around. My Fairy story has hit a wall, and I just can't seem to get it move forward the way I want. To make matters worse, another new story has taken hold in my brain and won't let go. The new story isn't really Geek Pride appropriate though. Part of me wants to power through the fairy story, and part of me wants to shelve it.

I'm still on track with "Not Quite A Test Run". My lady love just threw a huge spanner into proceedings by demanding I make the lead "less cuddly", but at least she's not demanding a full rewrite. Yet.

Working on a spaceship battle is more work than Star Wars makes it look like. :)

Good to see spaceships still use huge spanners. :D

"Less cuddly" - less voluptuous, or a bit more of an abrasive personality?

Just hit 50,000 words and haven't reached the story's main location yet. Fuck, not another novel!

I was 7000 words into my story - it was flowing but it didn't feel right, like I was shoehorning geek elements into a story that didn't need it.

Then I had a dream last night. Now I have a 3000 word outline and can't wait to jump on it.

So I'm polishing up an older work that I never got around to using here, but fits the theme perfectly. It's called "An Un-Conventional Romance" and takes place at an anime convention in 2016. So that's one entry for sure.

I'm also working on a possible second Geek Pride entry involving my take on the Kamen Rider franchise, set in the same continuity as my two previous stories about my Super Sentai homage, "A Tournament of Colors" and "A Wolfpack's Epilogue".

My main character keeps evolving but that also means the story is getting longer and longer. The story is also evolving. Time is also flying.

I relate - I'm on my fourth/fifth overhaul. There's nothing in this new draft from the first draft!

15.5K and the first day isn't even over yet.

Nope. Can't relate. I haven't written a word in weeks. After a strong start, I realized that the great ending I was writing towards isn't an ending at all—it's an epilogue. I don't know how to resolve the conflict in the story to get to the epilogue and to be honest, even the "conflict" is a little hazy. I've been rolling it over and over in my head, but I've got nothing. I very much fear that I may have to bow out again.

Roadblock. So much for "getting shit done ahead of time." Back to the drawing board. I have barfed out a full novel in under three weeks last time, but I feel I haven't recovered yet.

Now would be a great time for a vacation, but given the current Covid madness, that's kinda not happening.

Oh, my gods, do I need a vacation! The idea for this story came to me on vacation. Some of my best inspiration has been from vacation. A vacation is exactly what I need right now, and March/April is my usual vacation time. Oh, to be a care-free college student in Florida instead of a responsible, as-yet-unvaccinated adult aware of just what a tragedy it would be to catch Covid this close to the end.

Wait until those care-free college students go home and spread all the different variants around to friends and family. I've got my shots and I wouldn't want to be around them.

I went fishing for the first time this year and it was about as much vacation as I can stand. ;)

Fishing is hard work, Tex. Those megladons.... you gotta be real careful.

Yeah, struggling a little on my second work. I've definitely got the first one in the can (a novel-length story about love and sex at an anime convention), so that's good, but the second one... hrm.

It's an homage to KAMEN RIDER (i.e. Japanese superheroes, specifically Kamen Rider Ryuki), set in the same word as the two stories I did about "Strike Force Wolfpack" (which was an homage to Super Sentai). I've got the protagonist and the overall premise set up, but I worry that there's *too much* world building and setup going on before I get to the plot and any sex/romance content.

With an esoteric subject like Tokusatsu or rather a world where the fiction is real, you should allow for more world building. Even if only KR fans were to read it, they need to learn about the rules and what makes your world different from the established universe(s). Novices will need a bit more explanation anyway. It's not a race to the sexy bits and I personally prefer fleshed-out setups. Sex scenes are much more powerful when you're invested in the characters. You're probably posting in SF/F where the readership appreciates good world building and has the patience to go along with it. Don't front-load and try to integrate it into your narrative and you should be golden.

Okay, I was *hoping* that would be the case, so I appreciate your input.
