Not heard a quote from Dennis Skinner, yet. That should be fun.

Because I'm guessing you're too young to remember the horror of when the bitch was in power.

Not only am I old enough to remember when she was in power but I am also old enough to know how chaotic it was in the years that preceded her. Did you live through the 3 day week when the unions defied the elected government? I did!

do you remember what lead to it?

So what? We have Republicans here flirting with the same, so what exactly does that really mean?

It means a great deal more and a great deal worse than it meant in Reagan's (and Thatcher's) day, that's what it means.

Yep, I remember. I also remember the zero day week when she destroyed British industry and turned everything North of Watford into a fucking wasteland.

The truth is painful. Take a hint.

the truth WAS painful - we bore the brunt of her decisions. fuck society and grab grab grab whatever profits can be made whether that meant selling off social housing without a building programme for more, privatising everything in sight, or flooding the employment market with the unemployed. there were those who profited from her policies, and they are, most likely the few who remember her with any semblance of fondness.

Please do not think that the contemptible remarks by Hobbit are indicative of the opinions of Brits. The reason she is hated by the left wing is because she defeated the Trades Unions, or at least reduced their influence in government.

She encouraged people to buy their own homes and to try to better themselves. No one is saying that everything she did was perfect, but without her policies, the chances are we would be in a situation not dissimilar to that which the Greeks now find themselves in.
what she did was sell off aging council housing stock (to avoid the necessary upcoming repair bills) at a cheap price which did, for sure, mean many got to own property for the first time. it wasn't done with any sense of helping the populace - it was getting rid of stock she knew would cost the government money to keep up to scratch; a clever move, winning her votes she needed and yet storing all manner of trouble up for future generations by no building replacement stock. the people MOST in need of social housing now have a huge battle on their hands to be housed. she sold our country down the river, sold every damned thing we, as a nation, 'owned', snatched the profits with one hand whilst waving to the public with the other.

Thatcher pulled exactly the same stunt. They called it "care in the community". Basically, the mentally ill were dumped on the streets.
EXACTLY

for the record, she didn't defeat 'the' trade unions. What she did do though was suppress workers and their families in the pursuit of self centered profit! and where did it get anyone? oh yes, the banking and financial crisis!

she encouraged people to buy what had been previously social housing whilst preventing the social housing stock being replenished.. there by paving the way for 'social landlords' to exploit the poor. that is not the same thing as encouraging people to buy homes.
quite so

“[Rather than give Margaret Thatcher a £3 million state funeral] you could give everyone in Scotland a shovel and we’d dig a hole so deep we could hand her over to Satan personally.”

love me some frankie

Surprised to see you holding the Flag of St George, Hobbit. In view of your acerbic comments I would have expected the hammer and sickle.

This really saddens me.

I thought my heroes, you know, McCarthy, Reagan, Thatcher, Vetteman, etc. etc. all fought tirelessly to fight off you goose stepping communist bastards.

Who cares if they caused a lot of heart ache, bloodshed, severe poverty, thinking of the mentally ill as nothing but criminals, taking advantage of people with cans of corn...

NONE OF THAT MATTER! WE STOMPED OUT THE RED MENACE!

Well, that was until we got that commie Obama in office. He's the worse commie ever.

Hey, if the British people are, and still, all that hostile to Thatcher's memory, how is it that the Tories are now in power once again?
