7:52am was early. I was just rolling over at that hour.

I've not been to the coast lately. We're planning a family trip to Galveston in June so let me know what's good to do after you get back.

Damn if you didn't make me go back and correct my DST settings.....
I'd have to say I was back to sleep for the second time by then.

Thats where I'll be headed. I haven't been in a couple of years. I'm just want to soak up some sun, eat some seafood, drink a few drinks and relax.
I have always wanted to see what the Balinese Room was about since hearing ZZ sing about it. Has anyone ever been there? I hear it's restored and reopened.

****************
And everybody knows
it was hard to leave.
And everybody knows
it was down at the Balinese!

Hey watch where your snipping ;) there might not be anything left to service...

I thought the reference to the Balinese would cause some head scratching.... thats on the ZZ Top Fandango Album (1975) guess I'm showing my age...........
Theres a Texas History lesson somewhere in all this ...

This link should bring you young'uns up to speed :D

Balinese

*************************************
Deep in the South of Texas
not so long ago,
there on a crowded island
in the Gulf of Mexico

it didn't take too much money,
man, but it sure was nice.
You could dance all night if you felt all right,
drinking whiskey and throwing dice.

And everybody knows
it was hard to leave.
And everybody knows
it was down at the Balinese.

Yeah, I remember Ruby,
she always dressed in red
wearing skintight pants, ;) Lord, and how she could dance
with a rag wrapped around her head.

And everybody knows
it was hard to leave.
And everybody knows
it was down at the Balinese. :D

I could have sworn it is gone. Did the renovation absolutely give it an unrecognizable face lift?

I'm trying to picture what sits out from the water between the 61st street pier and the Flagship hotel. I can't picture it. It must be just beyond the Flagship... haven't ventured down that far in a while.

Theres a picture on that site cherry.
Theres supposed to be someone named Rocky Hill (a power blues and rock master it says on the site) playing there Sat and I'm going to check it out.
If it's there I'll bring back a report.

If you aren't craving seafood, the burgers are good at the water wall on the Strand.
Burgers? On the strand? Thanks for the idea, maybe Sunday before I leave. I'm craving seafood first. I talked to a friend in Houston. It ...the Balinese Room exist and we're meeting there so thanks anyway.

I agree... I generally prefer seafood. A friend recently planted the burger idea in my head so I had to give it a try.

Have fun.
