Texas, WTF ?

Actually I meant "Just say no".....that works really great right?? Totally stopped the people from using illegal drugs right??

I had no Idea you were such a flaming communist.

What Communist? I am a Libertarian, who believes adults should have a right to do to and with themselves whatever they want, as long as nobody else is harmed.
That's typical of conservative social police state bullshit.....like "Just say no to fucking!" and I ask once again. If "Just say no" worked so awesome for drugs as it did and the conservatives said it would (LMFAO).

What makes you think "Just say no" will stop people from fucking??
It won't. It never has and never will, except when one person says "No" to sex with another. There have been places where sex was forbidden, except between men and women who were married to each other, and only for the purpose of procreation. Even CA outlawed many kinds of sex until the 1960's.

I have written hundreds of stories, the majority in first person, and they describe my opinion on sex among consenting adults.

You should move to SF, with all your "I'm the ULTIMATE VICTIM!!" bullshit you'd fit right in....[/QUOTE]

That is the attitude of many people in a variety of places.

What Communist?

Pot legalization.

I am a Libertarian, who believes adults should have a right to and with themselves whatever they want, as long as nobody else is harmed.

Wrong you support legalizin' SATANZ LETTUCE!!! HIPPIE COMMUNIST SCUM!!!

Don't ever tell any of your RW friends from the dirty south you support that, the vetteman/FGB/eyer/miles/busybody types out there will drag you behind an F250 Jasper Texas style for bringing that liburhul evil to their communitah....it destroyed America!!

It won't. It never has and never will,

So then....what do you think about getting rid of Sex education, planned parenthood, access to contraceptives, clean needle outlets/suppliers and replacing it all with "Just say no, to sex!!" ??

The conservatives/GOP/RW all seem to be on that bandwagon lately...HUGE support from the right.

I'm assuming since you're not sure if Obama is actually worse than Hitler or not you're also on the loony RW bandwagon?

Sex education is fine, as long as it doesn't emphasize storks and cabbage leaves. Planned Parenthood provides valuable services. I have never used them myself, but I would fight to keep them available. I am not pro-abortion, and I doubt that anybody is, but I am staunchly pro-choice on abortions, believing them to sometimes be the least bad of several bad choices a girl or woman must make.

I have some qualms about free government-run needle exchanges because I don't believe the gov. should be encouraging self-destructive behavior. I can buy condoms in any supermarket and I want them to continue to be that easily available, along with BC devices and meds for women, but I am dubious about requiring insurance companies to pay for them. If the meds are intended to treat other conditions and the BC is a side effect, that is a different matter.

Just as I am a strong supporter of liberty, I am a strong supporter of personal responsibility. There are the "deserving poor" and, if they need financial support, then provide it, but there should be requirements that they take care of themselves to the degree they can. What I have against Obama is that he seems to be trying to turn the US into a nation of welfare bums, possibly to keep control over the citizenry, and that he has practically bankrupted the nation to do so.

OMG youz a liburhul. :D

I have some qualms about free government-run needle exchanges because I don't believe the gov. should be encouraging self-destructive behavior.

Understandable but here is the real world option to it...the wildfire/pandemic style spread of blood transmitted diseases like HIV/HepC etc among the needle using population and there is considerable bleed off from them to the non user population that winds up far beyond skid row. Much like condoms free sterile needles are not only some the absolute CHEAPEST public health programs but also some of the most effective.

And not to be rude but the numbers on this particular subject don't lie, it's really cheap and super effective way to mitigate a problem that will never go away because humans love to get tore up and fuck.... so with all due respect, and I mean ALL...due respect, fuck morality, this is tits up improvements on social problems ( mostly unwanted pregnancy & disease prevention) for rock bottom prices were talking about here. So condoms and clean needles for everyone!!! Please for the love of god just use them.....ESPECIALLY if you're a junkie, weasel ass dick eatin' hoe or a nasty ass man slut. Wrap it up and always use a sterile needle when shootin' shit up like Bonnie n' Clyde ok? No sharing needles...das bad.

Ohh..preetey centrist sounding....

Just as I am a strong supporter of liberty, I am a strong supporter of personal responsibility. There are the "deserving poor" and, if they need financial support, then provide it, but there should be requirements that they take care of themselves to the degree they can.

I can understand the sentiment but in reality that's just not how shit works man...

You can't come up with a standard that puts the poor up on a pedestal where they have to prove their morality to get some food stamps. That in my opinion is pretty fucked up....put yourself in their shoes, if you were laid off and the kids were hungry how far would you go? Yea...that moral orale judmental bullshit don't fly with me, most if not all the 'haves' would behave no better than the 'have not's ' should their lives gone differently. I see a lot more good people out there trying to make the best of a shitty situation than I see malicious predators trying to welfare america to death with 130 bucks a month in food stamps......

And let's be real who you were born as has a LOT more effect on who you end up than the RW ever likes to admit for their fantasy that "anyone can be at the top if the just WORK HARD!" load of complete bullshit....

I have what I have because I'm the son of a Military officer....that boost at the start of my life made everything possible for me. Nuclear family with stability/security...good schools...even the customs and introductions I made as a kid carried me later in life. Just knowing the big brass as family friends opened HUGE doors for me. No it wasn't perfect and we weren't ballin' but it was a LOT better than a lot of other folks I know. Had I been born into a trailer park or housing project, gone to shit hole schools with parents that wren't just poor but didn't give a fuck either I would be on parole or in the slammer for some stupid fuckin' shit just like the rest of trailer park/hood rat america I'm sure of it.

But I'm not....I'm living the American dream, North Coast style.....my my hey hey....rock n' roll is here to stay...know what I'm sayin?:D

What I have against Obama is that he seems to be trying to turn the US into a nation of welfare bums,

See this is where you lose me and I have to ask what the mother fuck???

Where does this come from? Why do you say that? Is it just because the talking heads like to repeat that over and over again? Or do you actually have some evidence?

possibly to keep control over the citizenry,

If any welfare were to keep control over the citizenry it would be the welfare that goes to all the richest people/institutions/corporations in the land that subjugate those on food stamps. Not the piss change that actually makes it to the poor/general public after all the fat cats skim it for all they can without triggering mandatory investigations into how much that 20,000 dollar hammer for the new school wing construction really fucking cost. Know what I'm sayin'?

and that he has practically bankrupted the nation to do so.

No he practically bankrupted the nation cleaning up a clinton/bush economic clusterfuck of epic proportions only that level of aristocratic dip shit incompetence could have created. Hindsight is 20/20 and the evidence is so over-fuckin' whelming and damning for those two families it's not even a real argument anymore. Our economic woes starting with the multifaceted economic shit storms of the late 2000's to the present run DEEP tap roots to the Bush/Clinton era. Obama may have signed the check but he did NOT incur the cost...saying otherwise makes you either ignorant or a damn liar because partisan fuck head.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has ordered members of the Texas Military to monitor federal troops in an upcoming two-month training exercise planned for the Lone Star State.

Operation Jade Helm will bring the U.S. military's most elite soldiers, including the Green Berets and Navy SEALS, to Texas for simulated special operations in a hostile territory.

In a letter to Major General Gerald Betty of the Texas State Guard, Abbott said his order was "to address concerns of Texas citizens."

Super right-wing news websites first circulated an Army document describing the planned exercise in March, and since then a broad theory of military plans to subdue Texans and institute martial law has emerged. At a weekend meeting of the commissioners' court of Bastrop County—one of 17 Texas counties that will see federal troops training between July and September, hundreds of citizens turned out to voice fear and anger with an Army spokesman.

At least two counties, Victoria and Goliad, have seen their portions of the exercise canceled by the Army, but officials with the Victoria County Sherriff's Office said they did not know why.

The Washington Post has reported that past military exercises have seen U.S. troops treat domestic territory as hostile for the sake of training.

But it's done little to ease the fears of Texans highly distrustful of the federal government. In a press release, the governor said he hoped his deployment of Texas troops to monitor the exercises would comfort citizens.

"Directing the State Guard to monitor the Operation will allow Texas to be informed of the details of military personnel movements and training exercise schedules, and it will give us the ability to quickly and effectively communicate with local communities, law enforcement, public safety personnel and citizens," he wrote.

What are the concerns of Texas citizens ?

News of the Army's operation Jade Helm stirred up widespread fears and deep mistrust of the American government in a sizable bloc of the public. Thousands of tweets, dozens of online publications and plenty of Chron.com commenters sounded the alarm of an impending military takeover.

Multiple websites drew links between the suspiciously swift and simultaneous closure of a half dozen Walmarts nationwide and the military training drill that will have some of America's most elite units--Green Berets and Navy SEALS among them--trying to blend in to the civilian population in Texas and the Southwestern states.

VICE News reported "conspiracy theorists think an army training exercise will bring martial law to the US this summer."

"Walmart is in the picture. The world's largest retailer raised eyebrows last week when it simultaneously shuttered five stores—two in Texas, one in California, Oklahoma and Florida—and laid off 2,200 workers with only several hours' notice."

My friends and acquaintances started noticing survivalists trying to find places to hole up, back in the 1970s.

We have a phrase for disturbed individuals that hold paranoid ideas about our government. "Conspiracy nutcases."

What are the conspiracy nutcases afraid of ?

Wal-Mart might used as an entrance and exit for tunnels that reach from state to state,
Wal-Mart might be used to move federal troops and military vehicles, IN SECRET!

Wal-Mart might be used as a operations of base to hand out food, weapons, etc to invading Chinese army, after the military takeover.

"20 officers corralled, searched and fingerprinted all 60 meeting attendees, before seizing all cellphones and recording equipment in a Valentine's Day 2015 raid on the Texas separatist group."

The raid was a response to legal summons sent by Republic of Texas members to a Kerr County judge and bank employee, demanding they appear in the Republic's court at the Veterans and Foreign Wars building in Bryan the day the officers stormed in.

"You can't just let people go around filing false documents to judges trying to make them appear in front of courts that aren't even real courts," said Kerr County sheriff Rusty Hierholzer, who led the operation.

It's true that the paranoid world-view of right-wing militia types has remarkable stamina. But that's not news.

What is news is that there seem to be enough of them in Texas to influence the governor of the state to react — some might use the word pander — to them.

That started Monday when a public briefing by the Army in Bastrop County, which is just east of Austin, got raucous. The poor U.S. Army colonel probably just thought he was going to give a regular briefing, but instead 200 patriots shouted him down, told him he was a liar and grilled him about the imminent federal takeover of Texas and subsequent imposition of martial law.

The next day Gov. Abbott decided he had to take action. He announced that he was going to ask the Texas State Guard to monitor Operation Jade Helm from start to finish.

"Your letter pandering to idiots ... has left me livid," former State Rep. Todd Smith wrote Gov. Abbott. "I am horrified that I have to choose between the possibility that my Governor actually believes this stuff and the possibility that my Governor doesn't have the backbone to stand up to those who do."

There's no argument that after the 2014 election, Texas politics took a further step to the right. The 84th session of the state legislature has given ample proof of that. But the events of this last week have been an eye-opener for Texans of all political stripes.

Ted Cruz does not let the facts get in the way of insanity.
Ted Cruz will pander to anyone who will give poltical contributions.

Ted Cruz spoke up in public, to reassure the Tin hat wearing subculture.

"My office has reached out to the Pentagon to inquire about this exercise,” said Cruz while appearing at the South Carolina Republican Party’s annual convention. “We are assured it is a military training exercise. I have no reason to doubt those assurances, but I understand the reason for concern and uncertainty, because when the federal government has not demonstrated itself to be trustworthy in this administration, the natural consequence is that many citizens don’t trust what it is saying.”

"Unfortunately, some Texans have projected their legitimate concerns about the competence and trustworthiness of President Barack Obama onto these noble warriors. This must stop.”

On this week's edition of WFAA-TV's Inside Texas Politics, host Jason Whitely, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram's Bud Kennedy and Tribune Executive Editor Ross Ramsey talk about Gov. Greg Abbott and his odd-to-some decision to offer a measure of support to conspiracy theorists who worry that a large scale U.S. military exercise planned across seven states (including parts of Texas) is cover for an invasion.

Conclusion- It is all about the attention whoring, and the campaign money that Greg Abbott will get.

Correction
May 3, 2015

An earlier version of this story indicated that Gov. Abbott had deployed the National Guard in Texas, when in fact it was the Texas State Guard.

http://www.npr.org/blogs/itsallpoli...ploys-state-guard-to-stave-off-obama-takeover

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Racing both a U.S. Supreme Court decision on gay marriage and legislative deadlines, Texas Republicans pushed ahead Tuesday toward putting the state at the forefront of resistance if same-sex weddings are ruled constitutional.

Nearly every Republican in the Texas House is backing a measure that would prohibit state and local officials from issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples. Less than three weeks remain in Republican Gov. Greg Abbott's first session, and the bill must clear the House by midnight Thursday to advance.

If signed by Abbott, the bill would aim to defy the Supreme Court if it legalizes gay marriage, laying the groundwork for Texas to potentially raise new legal battles over its ability to regulate marriage licenses.

Some legal experts question the success Texas would have raising challenges over state sovereignty, saying those arguments have already been made to the Supreme Court in the current case.

"Any kind of appeal or challenge the state would bring would bring a fairly summary rejection by the Supreme Court," said Carl Tobias, a law professor at the University of Richmond. "I don't know what purpose it serves."

There’s one change the new system has brought to City Hall that city staff needed extra training to cope with:

Women.

"...this represented such a huge change in governance that the city manager’s office thought the city staff who regularly interact with the City Council needed extra training –

The first speaker was Jonathan K. Allen, who was a city manager of the relatively small Lauderdale Lakes, Florida. Allen was considered an expert in this field because his local city commission was all-female.

"I reached out to Emily Amanatullah, who studies gender issues and is an assistant professor of management at the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas, to help sort this out."
- Lilly Rockwell

At the outset, it definitely feels archaic, like ‘The women are usually in the kitchen, how do we deal with them now that they have power,’ ” Amanatullah said. “It does reek of old norms and often it’s called benevolent sexism – they are not putting women down, but they are in a way.”
- Lilly Rockwell

http://cityhall.blog.statesman.com/...warned-to-expect-more-questions-longer-talks/

Austin City Council members say they are “shocked” and “appalled” by comments made during a training session meant to teach city staff how to handle a female-dominated dais.

All seven female Council members, including Ora Houston, Kathie Tovo, Leslie Pool, Ellen Troxclair, and Sheri Gallo, also took to the podium to denounce the session and criticize the mansplaining.

Guess what? Numbers aren’t a problem for women – in fact, they oversee massive city budgets, run businesses, and lead economic policy.

Guess what? Women ask a lot of questions, but so do all Council members – especially new ones – regardless of gender.

The City Manager’s office has decided to remove the "Women Leading in Government" video from the city’s website.

Why’d they take it down? Once city management became aware the “inappropriate” content “wasn’t consistent with the city or the organization,” they chose to remove it in an effort to prevent uncontextualized viewings.

While I agree that the system should not be responsible for the lazy and inept I also don't feel like the fact that the system is not perfect is a sign of it being completely worthless. There are people out there who work hard and get shit done. I don't think help should be denied to those who need it and have earned it simply because pieces of shit are abusing the system. I think the system should be modified to prevent its corruption, not be completely disposed of as I've heard and seen many suggest.

Conservatives in TX again prove they fucking HATE free markets and capitalism...

http://www.hightimes.com/read/texas...Feed:+HIGHTIMESMagazine+(HIGH+TIMES+Magazine)

Are you on drugs again?

Other than the latest oil bullshit Texas is probably the most Capitalistic and free market state in the USA!

Yeah, in some places we don't want Strip Joints, Gambling & Alcohol Sales around but that is determined by the local population of the area more than the state.

In most cases the State bows to public pressure...as it should be.

You're probably right. I was in Galveston on business and a restaurant near that long pier was hauling all their garbage in large plastic bags to the end of the pier and dumping them in the ocean. We called the police and the sheriff personally came by to tell us to "mind your business." Now that's pro capitalism, Texas style.

Now as to this military exercise thing.

REALLY?

We have been trying to get the US Government to send troops and support to SEAL off the GOD-DAMNED border to Mexico for some years.

All we got was the sound of silence.

So NOW they want to send the ARMY down here to play!

Yeah, we need MORE people sliding through the country side in camouflage and carrying automatic weapons and shooting up shit!

The Law enforcement have enough people blasting away while they try stop the Drug smugglers, Illegal border crossers ,smugglers and sundry other lunatics armed to the teeth.

Did I forget sometimes the Mexican army and/Drug cartels drive over and fires off a few rounds?

Even the DPS has some Gunboats!

You want to train those fuckers?

How about assignment rotation to help out the border patrol!

Fucking Dumb Asses!

Yeah, the US military is just pissing away our tax dollars. Let's get Congress to cut their budget. Ted Cruz should be all over that.

Got my coffee right here....sure am riding that caffeine buzz.

That must be why there are so many blue states making so much money off a market Texas just legally oppressed at the state level. It also explains why TX is so selective about their industries and strict with the book worth of rules about what free market shit you're not allowed to participate in.

Just because you say it a bunch and keep telling yourself that Texas is the most capitalistic free market state in teh USA, doesn't make it real.

Crony capitalism you might have a point....but free market capitalism? LOL you're delusional, keep drinking that GOP kool-aid ;)

With all the rest of the garbage I doubt if any one noticed.

I suppose if I lived in such a shit hole I would think the same way....

FGB will probably be all over how horrible it is as soon as Limbaugh tell him to be outraged by it....then once they don't he'll bitch about taxes and government spending.

The problem is that is somewhere between difficult and impossible to do you know? First how are you going to prove that so and so is abusing the system? Put an ankle monitor on them to see how often they leave the house to go walking around looking for help wanted signs? In my neck of the woods the only companies that would put up a help wanted sign are the few Mom and Pops stores that still exist. Anything larger than that and your only way of getting to them is to go online to their website and fill out an app. So they should be sitting on their ass in front of their computer at least half their waking hours. Do you check their computer history? Well that's all fine and dandy (if a little invasive) most companies have a 90day waiting period where they tell you not to reapply within so depending on how many companies are in the area they are still going to have a lot of downtime. Do you judge it by how many callbacks they get or interviews? Ultimately they have zero control over that. Do you judge it by what they own (since I see a lot of people bitching about so and so has Air Jordans, an Xbox, a Cell Phone, a computer and the internet) Well the first two very well may have been gifts or purchases prior to becoming unemployed. The last three are required. I've already explained why the computer and internet are required and while I guess they could sit by their home phone if you want them spending time wandering the streets looking for help wanted signs. . .well cell phone becomes a must.

It's not that I think waste is a good thing, it's that I realize it's a lot of trouble to work through and maybe we'd be better off working on other things that would solve the unemployment issue in the first place rather than looking for ways to punish those without jobs.

How in the fucking hell is the military going to learn anything if they do NOT practice?

Are they supposed to go into operations and wars without training?

You know what's a military waste? Budgeting for new ships and equipment when the Pentagon has NOT asked for them, that's pure fucking pork, but you don't see the GOPers bitching and complaining about that, do you?

That money could be used to raise the pay of the military so their families don't have to be on assistance to fucking live!!

Texas needs to throw off the tin foil!!!
