tee hee

I'd vote to give them reparations to go back to Africa. We could give them $50,000 and they'd be rich af over there.

I keep wondering how the hell they're going to actually fund it.

I mean, is it going to be an increase on everyone's Fed taxes? If so, doesn't that mean that blacks are paying reparations to blacks for the sins of long dead white guys?

Or are they going to somehow only tax the white guys? If so, doesn't that run afoul of the 14th Amendment?

And what about 40 acres and a mule? Wasn't THAT supposed to be "reparations" even if it didn't work out? If so, how many times do we have to pay? Or is this a continuing obligation for the as yet unborn too?

Finally, isn't reparations really an unconstitutional "bill of attainder" which invokes corruption of the blood?

Remove social security and give them everything that's left in the SS coffers.

Just wondering if you people have noticed that the subject of reparations ONLY comes up when the Democrats are out of power? Gotta keep those stupid darkies vote'n democrat ya know.

It's nothing more than a scam, that's what it's always been.

i'd suggest - that the subject itself
re-originates subversively from... the opposition.
it's bait.

the scam is one of political misdirection:

inciting a (modern) traditionally non republican base,
raising a subject without any clear, reasonable answer,
throwing a large clamoring potential candidate field into tumult
- as they demonstrate various - oft silly - pander-gymnastics
in a way that's ever instant media-sexy
and the president can remain relatively above and away from all of it.

do you actually think the d-party,
wants anything to do with such an unwinnable quagmire issue?
that they'd raise it themselves?

it's a stink bomb thrown into a sorority house.
a cold and socially manipulative troll;
and it won't be the last.

such a large field is vulnerable to such agitprop.

they'll fiddle - and diddle at each other;
tending to opened barn doors
as trump - ever the savvy showman - runs.

Exactly right and our society does not need the discord down for political advantage. It does not benefit anyone. Not those accused by their skin color of oppression, not those told that striving for excellence will be met with insurmountable ob-stack-calls*

This nonsense is less inflammatory and less dangerous for either the "oppressed" class or the "oppressor" class than the fiction that still persists that cops become cops so they can shoot black people. That has earned everyone that dreamed that up, promoted it, and still promotes it a special place in hell. People died from that. A generation is being raised with dangerous misconceptions about the important relationship between civil, safe, and prosperous society all because a cynical, evil plan to get out the vote for an off-year election cycle was envisioned because if that community that historically does not vote when no titular king is on the ballot could be persuaded to vote in Obama-level numbers they would retain power. The effects of that plan are more than ripples on the pond. Entire neighborhoods have been ceded to destruction. No one is going to invest in communities where law enforcement is the bad guys.

Every time we talk about the racist history of the Democrat Party of the South,
we are lectured that all of the racists migrated to the Republican Party,
but they didn't. Like Robert, they learned to be more subtle about it.
The soft bigotry of low expectation is employed to keep
them on the plantation and subdued.

Placated by promises, they vote in lockstep for their former masters.
The proof is in the puddin'. Every majority black community is
dominated by the Democrats, but they never deliver on
promises made; they keep them in ignorant poverty.

I think cleaver may be alluding to the divide and conquer nature of the tactic.

A way to keep the uneducated minority forever in hate of "Republican."

THEY won't give you your just due; we will, vote (D).

And as I alluded, the racists do generationally...

I get the impression that cleave is suggesting the repubs are behind it. An interesting notion but I tend to reject it. The subject has bubbled up with regularity in recent years. 1999, 2003, 2007, and now in 2019. (I assume we heard nothing in 2015 because everyone knew HRC was going to win.)

You are right about the tactic keeping the ignorant among them on the plantation. I keep thinking that surely they know it's never going to happen and realize they're being played. And then I wonder exactly how many pull the 'D' lever in the anticipation of actually getting another check? Are they really that stupid?

In 2008, the House of Representatives formally apologized for slavery and Jim Crow. In 2009, the Senate did the same. Black people don’t need another apology. We need safer neighborhoods and better schools. We need a less punitive criminal justice system. We need affordable health care. And none of these things can be achieved through reparations for slavery.

Nearly everyone close to me told me not to testify today. They said that even though I’ve only ever voted for Democrats, I’d be perceived as a Republican—and therefore hated by half the country. Others told me that distancing myself from Republicans would end up angering the other half of the country. And the sad truth is that they were both right. That’s how suspicious we’ve become of one another. That’s how divided we are as a nation.

If we were to pay reparations today, we would only divide the country further, making it harder to build the political coalitions required to solve the problems facing black people today; we would insult many black Americans by putting a price on the suffering of their ancestors; and we would turn the relationship between black Americans and white Americans from a coalition into a transaction — from a union between citizens into a lawsuit between plaintiffs and defendants.

Coleman Hughs, testifying before Congress

This is all it was, a furthering of the division.

Most Democrats irrespective of their color are that stupid. They really do believe that money grows on trees and there's no consequences to giving it away. They've even invented an entire new branch of phony economics called modern monetary theory to support their pipe dreams.

He's spot on re. the safer neighborhoods and better schools. But where he misses the boat is on how that may happen. No one, regardless of race or political affiliation, can swoop in and make those things happen. Better schools and safer neighborhoods start with the people that live in those neighborhoods. A community commitment to clean the place up and that's not going to happen as long as the community blames someone else for their problems.

All the people that like to look at correlation ignore the most glaringly obvious conclusions that one could draw from the correlations you see in those neighborhoods.

You can make arguments about nature or nurture but the bottom line is there isn't any light at the end of the tunnel. You can argue all day long about such things as what standardized testing reveals and whether that's simply a reflection of environment but the bottom line is the environment is what it is and it isn't likely that there is going to be salvation found within. As you correctly point out salvation from without is worthless.

I have long advocated that urban areas select their worst neighborhood on a regular basis, buy out those they must, evict the others and raze the whole area and auction off the land for development. This forces the wards of the Democrat Party into better neighborhoods and schools. Too many people just settle for the condition they live in, so we have to not throw money and rhetoric at that condition but eliminate that condition.

They did, remember New London CT? I wonder what the outcome would have been had the neighborhood been predominantly black?

So much ascription in one post, Tweak.
