I recently submitted a profile to the Volunteer Editor's program, but on my profile status page it says my profile is still 'pending'. The only problem is, it has been saying this for over a week. How long does it take to get a volunteer editor application approved?

Good question, since that feature isn't working.

Toss your hat in on the forum here, read the stickies, post to the available editor for the current month, watch for new threads by authors looking for an editor and reply if you're interested . . .

A few tips:
  • Be sure your PM's are on.
  • Don't put your e-mail address in a post, as that is against Lit rules
  • If you have stories posted, a link in your sig will let others check your own work if they so choose.

Any more questions? Don't be afraid to ask one of us.

I also take a daily tithe for you to provide your services, though you can do that per post if you like.

tithe? I guess I'm not as well read as I thought. What's it mean?

Thx

Copper is pulling your leg. Ignore it. :)

A tithe is a one-tenth part of something, paid as a (usually) voluntary contribution paid in cash, checks or stocks.

A lot of religions require a tithe as part of devotion for a church. It is intended as a form of charity. Originally, the church took care of the sick and the infirm and the poor (before hospitals and homeless shelters), and a tithe by parishioners was used to offset the cost of care and feeding for those less fortunate. In truth, much of it ended up in the church's pockets, but nowadays, a tithe is given to a church and it is up to the church what they do with it. Some churches save it and dole it out to those in need, some churches use it for building repairs, and undoubtedly, some use it for personal gain.

If you are Jewish, you give 10% of your income to charity, and not to the synagogue. You can give it to the Rabbit or the Elders, but it is just as acceptable to give it to cancer research or some non-profit organization.

Mine still says pending almost two years! Since the VE list doesn't work, I haven't bothered to chase it.

The requirement in the Catholic religion that you contribute a tenth of your income to the Church.

Look how that one turned out.

I knew of the religious tithing from my own background.
But I chose to put the generic definition up to stay away from the religious side. ;)

Somebody had to pay off all the lawsuits for priests raping little boys - gee, sure glad it wasn't me.

You're right, the payout was enormous, and is still going on across the world.

Someone recently told me that in Ireland, the number of boys not molested in church was the minority. This article doesn't say that, but it is frightening in its implications.
