Do people not respond via the volunteer editor program? I mean I hope they do. I do need someone to beta read and if possible edit as well.

I write about cross dressing and this is my new pen name. I'm coming back to writing after a really long time and trying to get back to writing. This current piece is the hardest one ive had to probably do. It's now 125 pages and this particular volume is done and is now 50k(ish) words.

There's more story in it than sex (which is there but not gratuitously). English is also not my first language so I've had to use grammarly to some extent.

So I mean if anyone wants to beta read or edit. I would love to have a other set of eyes to give me some feedback. I want to post it but I also kind of feel like there's still room to improve it.

You're asking for someone to read a short novel, which is a significant investment of time.

Maybe it can be improved, but unless you're hoping to publish for real, I would suggest just going for it. Get it out in the world. Let people read it. Allow yourself to start something new.

ps. Be cautious with Grammarly. I think it triggers the AI detection tools.

Some do, some don't.
Well so far I havent had anyone get in touch with me from lit to beta read it. Which is disappointing. And the fact that I still cannot message any other people from the volunteer editor program is making me doubt I will ever be able to find one either.

I understand that it is a significant investment of time which is also why if someone would show interest I wouldn't push for it to be done really quickly. I understand that people have to tend to their lives but if i can talk to a few people who would actually respond i'd atleast get a couple of people who might do it and even then i am sure atleast 1 out of 2 could finish and give me some feedback. but thats not happening on lit.

I am looking to publish it here but english isnt my first language so I do want someone who can edit it and even then they will give me some form of feedback. Again its just not happening here.

Is it because I am using a new pen name? Because this was definitely not a problem 6 years ago when I would publish under another user name.

Are you unable to access your prior username or did you choose to change it?

I chose to make a new account because I wanted to start fresh. I guess that was a bad choice
Not necessarily, some authors use different profiles for different story categories. But it does make it harder to build a following!

Maybe consider releasing your story in chapters of 5-8k words each, or so, one week or so between chapters? That would get more views and engagement than a single large novella, and if people like it they'll follow you in order to stay on top of the series.

It would also be easier to find a beta reader for 5-8k at a time!
