Tech help needed, por favor

For a few days I've been frustrated with pop-ups. I downloaded the google toolbar to have them blocked. It helped a bit, not so many now, but I still get them and they take a long long time to close, and all my net work is very very slow, including posting here. What else can I do?

Go to www.lavasoft.com and download the most recent version of AdAware, then run that.

There used to be a link to lavasoft on the Literotica home page. AdAware detects and gets rid of spyware. Once you run it, it'll list all these spyware programs that are on your computer. Point to one of the check boxes next to one of these programs and right click on one of the check boxes and pick "Select All" from the drop down box (this saves you the trouble of having to select them all one at a time.) Then just follow the instructions and delete them.

I had pop-ups so bad I really thought I was going to have to junk my PC. Nothing helped. I spent a bunch of money on pop-up blockers, and none of them worked as well as Ad-Aware. Now I'm good as new.

At the bottom of this page is a list of places for the full install and they're all free. It works for me and should clear up any spyware, etc.

Also, I've been having really slow load times with lit all week, so it might not just be your computer.

That's the actual page for the download you need. There are ten or twelve optional locations for the download, but they're relatively fast and should install immediately. Let me know if it gives you fits.

EDIT 2: Okay, in the top right hand corner there's a gray box for Ad-Aware Version 6.something. That's the one you want. It is a pain in the ass. Mine came with the puter, but it's worth the trouble, imo.

I tired Pop-Up Stopper too, and all that does is block new windows from opening. AdAware removes the problem entirely. It's the difference between treating the symptoms and curing the disease.

I just went to the Lavasoft homepage though, and I don't see the free download, not like when I downloaded it. But really, if I had to pay $20-$30 for it, it's worth it in my book. I paid something like $20 for an app called Spyware Killa or some such, and it's not half as good as AdAware.

It's still there Doc. But the page has changed since I used it last, also. Which is why I posted the wrong link the first time. It is still free in its most basic form, but that's all I've ever used and haven't ever had any problems so I'm very happy with it.

I will have to try that out, but I don't get many pop-up alerts, because I am running Mcfees Pro Firewall.

Thanks, Colly. Crap, I just got another popup offering a free scanner to get rid of "spyware" like AdAware. What to do? The message made it sound as if I'm being monitored.

Also, my Internet Explorer toolbars have disappeared. How do I get them back? I can't reach my bookmarks, etc. There's nothing to click on.

Pretty sure if you open up Internet Explorer and right click at the top of whatever tool bar is up that a drop down menu will appear. I think bookmarks/favorites is in the standard toolbar but could be wrong.

Nope, I just get a bar identifying the site. I don't even have a back-click arrow! If I right-click on the bar I get nothing but restore, minimize, close. Arrrrggghhhh!!!

Spybot backed up with Spyblaster is very good too. It doubles the trouble, in fact you can access Spyblaster through spybot.
It catches all the parasites that attach themselves to sites. I highly recommend them.
It's a good back up to your anti-virus system

Wish I could help with the IE problem, 'Dita, but I use Mozilla Firebird as a brower because it doesn't allow popups.

Until you get it fixed you can try downloading one of the free browsers. The only one I know is Mozilla, but there are others out there.

Even if you don't have the address bar, you can still right click on a link to open in a new window, right?
