my one dog is 9 now and the other is 7....couldn't even fathom not having them around right now. They are definitly mourning the cat too, but helping me remember that there is still life to live, walks to walk, tennis balls to throw, and snuggles to enjoy
As for never quite being ready for death...u are so right. I really thought everyday from the time she was 15 on was just like a bonus day with her. Made sure I gave her tail a tweek and her nose a kiss everyday, and i am so glad i did. And so lucky i got so many more bonus tweeks and kisses and purrs than i ever expected i would. But as you said doesn't make the letting go much easier even when u knew it was coming....

My heart goes out to you on the loss of your old companiion my friend. Am glad you let her soul leave the confines of her very old body to freely cavort with the spirits on other planes. She had a full and wonderful life and evidently a wonderful Master who through strong karmic links has elevated this incarnation and prepared her for an evern more wonderful existence in the future. Mourn not her loss, but celebrate her natural passing and transition.

Its a very comforting thought that she is having an even more wonderful existence with someone who perhaps needs her more now....
