Ok...a brief explaination of the name. For those not interested in being bored...read no further..

Mostly i picked it because it was a word that i liked as a kid instead of 'skinny'. Probably picked it up from the ballet world as there are lots of references to it there...even a ballet called "La Sylphide". Anyway as a skinny awkward kid i liked to think of myself as being sylph instead of boney, lol...

Other reasons, well it is the name of several species of dragonflies, (which i love  )

As well as the name of a Butterfly, a Moth, a Video Game Character, and South American Bird?( Thanks for all the research on that guys ;) )

Finally besides being a slender woman or girl...a sylph is an air spirit( hence the dragonfly, butterfly connection)...often considered souless and somewhat angry or mischevious....well this doesn't really apply to me ( the souless thing), but i am always investigating new ideas and spiritual concepts etc...so perhaps it could be appropriate??

There are two very good Literary refernces to "Sylphs" if anyone is interested.

The first is "The Rape of the Lock" by Poe...just a little light reading, lmao.

and the second which i prefer is Hawthorne's"Sylph Etherge"..... quite a dark little short story if u like that sort of thing

anyway there is your explaination, perhaps now u can see why it doesn't fit in the title bar......
Sylph

Outstanding Doll. Most interesting explanation and reasoning. I dig it.

I always love your pm's filly. They never fail to make me smile ;)

Canada Aye? Excellent in that event. What sort of traditional fare is eaten there on Thanksgiving? I wonder if it is similar in nature to that of us to the South.

Things went well here today. Stayed busy and got some chores accomplished.

Also anyone else who wishes to post or leave feedback feel very free! Got some sweet pics already :nana:

Goodbyes

So...how's my weekend going? Well to be honest it was fine until today when it suddenly took a turn for the worse....
Unfortunately today I had to say goodbye to my sweet cat and best friend of 19 1/2 years.
She suffered a stroke sometime early this morning and was slowly slipping away...so needless to say my decision to have her put down was clearly the right thing to do. Being the right thing to do does not make it any easier though, or stop my tears from flowing even as i type this.
I have known for a long time that she would be leaving me soon, but i can't begin to express my grief at the fact that it has finally come to pass

So on this 'Thanksgiving', i would just like to take a moment to give thanks for the sweet little soul that i was blessed to have share my life from the time i was 10 until i turned 30.
She will be missed. She will be remebered. She will be loved and forever be a part of me:heart:

Sylph, my heartfelt condolences are sent your way...i know how it feels. when a pet has been in your life for so long, the become a member of the family. my cat Sheba is getting old and i dread the day when she passes away. having to care for a cat or a dog especially, brings a bond between you that is only broken by death. It may hurt today, and tomorrow and maybe for a short time to come... however time is a great healer and soon it will turn from feeling sorry that he/she has gone, to feeling happy that he/she was in your life for so long and those fond memories will stay with you forever....

Sylph there are people here that you can talk to on this kind of level, i'm one of them.

xx take care xx

Thank u Tea, u sweetie u. :rose:
I have actually lost pets before, but never one that i have had for as long as this one. To try to put it into prespective i had her for almost as long as u have been alive.....
She was there when i went to elementary school, high school, university, grad school, and work. Our roles switched from both being youthful, to her being mature and me being the'kid' still. and eventually to me being the care giver these past few years and her the old girl....
The other thing that has made this particularily difficult is that this cat has always been 'my cat'. She was never mean to anyone else but she only purred when i held her. Slept on my bed nightly...even had a little step ladder to get up there these past few years.
as i said before i know the decision was right. I actually used to work at a vets so i know alot about what the procedure is etc. and there was no question in my mind about that. I am just having trouble being thankful that she is safe and out of pain.....still in selfishly missing her mode. But i know that like u said time makes these things less painful....and as always it is much better to have loved and lost then never loved at all ( even if it is a cat :catroar:  )

it wasn't just a cat, though...who has been in your life as long as your cat? only family....which in a very post hoc way, means he/she was family, also....

bless you baby.

I've been really well. A touch on the too busy side, but doing my best to be zen and stay outta trouble... How has dancing/yoga/pilates been treating you? Sometime they help put my mind at ease in tough times.
