Teamsters President to Speak at Republican Convention

I said I hated unions?

You might as just as well say using the pedantic and dumb argument that I hated dinosaurs because I pointed out that most of them died off. It's just a fact. Unions are not our grandfather's blue-collar labor unions, they're now the protection racket of government white-collar office workers and why do government workers need protection from government who is there to protect everybody?
Of course 👍

Who says that it's still your grandfather's Republican Party too?

Maybe they're there because the Democrats keep fucking them with open borders and cheaper labor....

None of this is relevant to my point.

It’s a fact Democrats are generally beholden to labor unions and Republicans are often at odds with them, particularly over compulsory membership, compulsory dues used for political activities, right to work laws, and public sector unionization.

At the same time, unions have shown a willingness to support Republicans when they’ve felt Democrats have failed or taken their votes for granted. Reagan secured some major union endorsements in 1980 and Reagan Democrats helped him win his landslide victory. Needless to say, the public sector unions were not happy when President Reagan refused to back down to the air traffic controllers but many working class voters respected the president’s handling of that issue.

It will be very interesting to hear what the Teamsters president has to say at the convention. Biden’s approval ratings on inflation and immigration are in the toilet. Student loan forgiveness for upper middle class sociology majors probably isn’t something many blue collar people appreciate either. Those might have something to do with why the Teamsters prez is willing to speak at the convention. It’s not a public sector union and I suspect many of their members vote in battleground states, especially in the Midwest.
