ok, i posted this already on the gb...but i know lots of you never venture there so i'll c&p it here too :)

ok, so i'm tryin to make a big, life changing choice here & i thought i'd get some opinions...{not that i'm basing my choice on this, just looking for other peoples perspectives}

they are carefully edited out of my pics but i have about 7 6-8" long scars across my back {to answer the obvious questions...about 8 years ago, didn't know who it was, yes i got cut up  but this is about tattoos} and i'm thinking of getting the scars covered over with a tattoo.

i know a lot of people don't like tattoos on women but if it's covering something uglier?...like painting a mural over graffiti?...

or do i just leave things as they are?...

the scars don't upset me...it's more like cocking my leg on it i guess, lol.

it'd have to be big...like the two pics below...

your thoughts????

You have the figure for it and as long as you promise to show us the results. I would say go for it, the dragon is very nice and very sexy.

I think tattoos can look beautiful in a pic, but personally I think over time I would get bored with the same pic on my body forever. Then they also say that over the years they fade, discolour, and change shape due to the ravages of aging, so it doen't thrill me overly on a large scale. I also tend to feel it is like wearing clothing so I personally would lose that feeling of being naked. Whenever I see a heavily tattooed body I am fascinated, but never see them as nude. It has to be a personal choice, but I also suspect something of this scale would cost a small fortune.

i want to design my own. if i get one that is, lol
i'll get my sis to help me map out all the scars that need covering and work to that plan.

thankyou Francisco:rose:

*wanders off with a wierd de ja vu feeling*

Obviously you're not happy about the scars and/or insecure of what they say about your body, in which case I think a large back piece would be gorgeous. I have two tattoos and have never had anything but positive interest from males and females alike. The biggest thing, in my opinion, would be to get one special to you. Really replace the negativity you feel when you see the scars with something positive that makes you feel good about yourself.

There are a few considerations when tattooing over scar tissue and I thought I'd drop them here, if you're interested. Good luck and for what it's worth, I think you're quite beautiful and will remain so scarred or inked or otherwise.

There are a few things that you need to consider. Tattooing over a scar or a stretch mark may help to hide it, but it is not going to change the texture of the skin. Deeply indented scars or stretch marks are still going to be deeply indented. A scar really needs to be more than a year old to tattoo over it. Scars take a long time to finish healing, and if you tattoo over a scar too soon, it could be rather painful, and the scar could continue to change after you have tattooed over it, marring your new tattoo.

It is also rather difficult to tattoo over scars, so you would want to see someone who has some experience in doing it. You also really want to listen to that tattoo artist's advice about what type of design would work over a scar. If you go with a tattoo that is too small, or one solid color, you are probably not going to get the effect that you want. Tattoos over scars may be more likely to need a touch up, so keep that in mind also. This is the type of tattoo where you would want to go to several tattoo artists to get different options, and a tattoo where you would want to take some time to come up with a design. In other words, do not go into a shop during their busiest time and expect to get it done right then and there.

the good thing about backs is that they don't wrinkle & sag as much as other bits of skin...
as for cost, well luckily my step dad forgot my birthday ;)
interesting what you say about never being nude...i'm very sensative about people seeing me from behind and this might make me more comfortable...???...never considered that point, ty :rose:

thankyou for the info Despina:rose:
the scars are pretty old and are very stable. they are not too thick or too indented/raised {they can be clearly felt but i doubt they would show too much once coloured} i've been pretty lucky in how well they healed :)

Lucky indeed. I wish you the best in your quest for the perfect design. Have you any ideas about what you might like? The dragon you posted above appeals to me in a big way. Of course, if you're more timid it wouldn't work, but I'm new here and wouldn't want to speculate on your ferocity. :catroar:

A good quality tattoo (and a well placed one) can be very erotic, Please post pic if/when you have it done.

I don't know how emotional/ energy/woo woo you are, but I would be most concerned about the temprement of your artist.

Look for someone you like, who is compassionate. The tattooing can unlock the tension and bad mojo in a scar or other parts of your body. It's pretty serious.

I think back tattoos are incredibly sexy. However, be aware that the area just above the back (the small of the back) is probably the most pain sensitive area on the body. Unless you are getting your eyeballs tattooed, that is!

If you're already familiar with the pain of getting tattooed, then I'd say go for it. Something to cover the scars on your back and make you feel proud of showing off your back is probably a brilliant idea.

I always think a woman's back is incredibly sexy, and I find backless gowns more sexy than, er, frontless gowns.

yup, very true! i am kinda "woo woo" lol
i trust my step dad's judgement on this too. he's always got my best interests at heart so i'll go with his choice...and he'll be with me so i'll feel totally safe.
he always looks after me :)

I agree with Despinas' Opinion and Considerations that she added, very informative.

As a collector, All I can say is patience is the Word-of-the-day.

It's going to take a few sessions plus healing time between each session to complete your Body Art.

Take your time in choosing your design and what it means to you.

OK, I am stepping off my soap-box now.

Which design you decide to choose dolf, It's going to be beautiful, wonderful and sexy.

Can't wait to see the work-in-progress pics. :D

Good Luck :rose:

If it's really what you want and you won't get bored with it quickly+it'll make you feel better then go for it:)

I for one would never do it..I faint while normal vaccination...don't even want to know what would happen while getting a tattoo lol

But if you do it..can we get a nice pic of it,please???:D

have to add that
if you enjoy pain, youll love getting a tatt. took me about a year to finish mine (its not completly finished yet)
every time i went, i would fall asleep in the chair...very relaxing!
however, as everyone else cautioned, please do take the time to seriously consider what you want on your skin. it is your canvass...the ink is your paint.
in any case, i wish you the best with your decision.

Tats are just not something for me, but I have seen some on other people that were absolutely gorgeous! (my ex-roommate married a tat artist and he created a fabulous work on her back with tiger lillies - really stunning!)

It sounds as if you are sensitive to the scars that are currently on your back, and if this is something that will make you feel better about you as a person, then go for it. I would just caution that, for a job of this size, make certain the tat artist is one that you feel comfortable with and comes highly recommended. It sounds like you have a great guy in your step father - not many of them these days take as much interest in their step children!

Let us know what you decide, k? And if you decide to get this done of course we all want design pics and pics of the tat itself!

Good luck with your decision!

One single large high quality tattoo will look great on you. :)
The only thing that I don't like about tattoo's are when people have several small to medium that don't have anything in common with each other. You only have one canvas, use it wisely.

just to give you an idea of what i'm trying to cover...

Wow, you weren't kidding when you said you'd been lucky in healing. I can't see why a tattoo wouldn't elminate them from sight altogether. Outta be fairly straight forward and do the trick. Again, good luck.

Dolfie.. thank you for sharing the scars.. it was brave. You are beautiful no matter what you do.

I agree that since you are sensitive about the scars that a tat is a good idea.

I have never been a fan of tatoos, yet I will say that there are some lovely ones out there.

Just be sure and heed the good advice given here, and keep us informed!

I think you have a wonderful canvas upon which an artist will create a masterpiece!
