Johnny Weissmuller and Maureen O'Sullivan did six Tarzan pictures for MGM. O'Sullivan wanted to bail after three, but audience demand kept her around for three more. Then MGM sold Weissmuller and Tarzan to RKO.
In those movies, Jane was always away in England or something, and there would be a big blonde like Brenda Joyce as a substitute. But since Tarzan was loyal to Jane, the new woman would spend all her time hanging with Boy and Cheeteh doing comedy relief, until it was time for her to get stuck in a giant spider web or something.
But the MGM movies were A pictures, with top notch supporting casts and lots of sex and violence.

Yeah, definitely not politically correct these days, but I remember watching these films as a kid. Loved them so much we'd emulate Tarzan and try to swing from the coconut fronds hanging down from the trees in the yard! Ieeeeeeeeee!
