Hmm..hope that title fits appropriately.

I have a friend who will be having sex for the first time in a couple of months. She is in her late 20's.

She's made the appt. to talk with a Dr. about birth control options. I told her to do a little reading on her own and talk to some other girlfriends for what they would recommend.

Tonight she asked me what "back-up" methods are. I can only think of two off hand...are there others I'm forgetting? Condoms & Spermicidal gel or foam and the diaphragm. You should have seen her face when she asked...umm..how exactly do you get that diaphragm thing in? Oh goodness. What else should I be telling her? I don't want to completely freak her out. I'm getting the feeling she knows very little about the subject other than what she learned clear back in high school health education.

She keeps approaching me with questions and I try my best to make her feel comfortable asking whatever she needs to know.

PB...how's about you just give her my number...and I'll help her in any way humanly possible? <weg>

And then some. lol

Uuuhhh...No. :)

Can I have your number? :p

Be open and honest, I do this with my kids as well as their friends who ask, if you can ask the question you should get the correct answer. Knowledge is power. Just my $0.02 worth.

She's already spoken for...

In your dreams my friend. :)

PBlue,

Well , I am sure that when she goes to her doctor, they will tell her about " back up " methods.

When I went to my gyno, I was there to get my check up and also get some bcpills and she told me about other methods I could use as well.

As for what else you should tell her , well I think that when she does have sex , some things will come naturally to her and I am sure her boyfriend can help her out in case she does not know some thing ... :)

I completely agree. I'm glad she feels comfy enough around me to talk about it. I will admit though...I had to snicker a little bit when she crossed her legs with a complete look of horror and said "How???"

I remember that feeling well not so very long ago... *blush*

If she's not going with hormonal contraception she should know about the "day after pill." Only for emergencies, say the condom breaks or something, then she can call her doctor or clinic and get it prescribed.

A girlfriend took her friend with her to Planned Parenthood to get fitted for diaphrams. The friend was very naive and led a quite sheltered life. The Planned Parenthood woman was explaining how to put the thing in and noticed a dumb look on the friend's face. The tech then pulled out a mirror to show exactly how and where to put the device. The friend took on look at her newly discovered open pussy and passed out.

My $0.02:)

Make sure you let her know not to have her expectations to high... sometimes the first time can be a bit painful, her being nervous may make it more difficult to actually enjoy it as much.

(that's my .02) :)

My Dr. didn't tell me anything when I went. I think it all depends on who you go see and their comfort level with the subject. Interesting that they train to talk about really personal stuff but some just can't do it well or at all without getting defensive.

Also, my first boyfriend didn't help me out at all in that arena and then was pissed when I didn't do things correctly. I haven't wanted to attempt it again until very recently (still haven't) because of that experience...I felt like a failure. I'm hoping for the best for her...I don't want her to feel scared and right now she does.

My doctor was very nice , she knew it was my first time getting an exam so she explained what she was going to do and showed me what she was going to be using , and through out the whole procedure she explained ... I was still nervous but overall it was not bad at all.

She also went into great detail about other forms of birth control, even though I did not ask she provided me with the information , which was a good thing , because some things I had no clue about ...

I am sorry about your first boyfriend not helping you out , that was not nice of him. :(

Again, I was very lucky , the man I was with he was very caring and extremely patient with me. He even made sure I was ready to take that step.

And, you know your friend is very lucky to have such a good friend as yourself. :)

Some doctors forget, when giving antibiotics to women on the pill, to mention that the pill doesn't work so well when taking the antibiotics. Sometimes they don't mention it when first giving the pill to a woman too, so the woman has no idea. Thats how my cousin got pregnant..
Moral: always use condoms when taking antibiotics even if you're on the pill.
