I hope you all enjoy the following story that is inpart taken from my failed thread Hispania. The following thread is set in 375AD at the time of the rise of the Huns and their expansion into Europe from the East. Thankyou.
-----------------
Historical Timeline to 375AD.
AD98: Goths under Beric migrate from Scandinavia to the Baltic shore.
AD150: Under Filimer, Goths settle in the Black Sea Steppes.
AD220: Goths set up well-defined state centred on the Dneipr Valley.
AD238: Goths divide into two sub-groups: Ostrogoths and Visigoths.
AD258: Goths discover Seamanship and raid Asia Minor.
AD271: Romans abandon Dacia. Gepids settle in abandoned province.
AD305: Ulfila born.
AD332: Visigoths accept ARRIANISM, by Ulfila.
AD341: Ulfila consecrated as Bishop of the Goths by Pope at Nicaea.
AD374: Nomadic Hunns destroy Ostrogoth empire of Ermanaric.
The tribal confederation of the two Germanic Gothic kingdoms set up in the Black Sea Steppes of what would become Ukraine in the modern world had been forged by the cunning expansionist policies of the Balthi royal clan who's first Judge was Beric who had left their homeland of Gauthescundza (modern day area surrounding Goteborg) and crossed the frigid straights of Olandt to settle the shores of the Baltic.
Now many years later having split into two different groups, the two Gothic tribes, the Visigoths and Ostrogoths had created two viable and expansive kingdoms on the shores of the Black Sea. The Eastern most kingdom was the one of the Ostrogoths led by the ruthless Ermanaric at the time of 374AD.
It is neccessary for the reader to have some understanding of the historical background before the start of this thread for it is tied with the concept of this thread.
The Chinese gave the Hunns who's homeland was in the semi desert area of Taklan Maklan the tribal name of Hsiung-Nu. Branches of the Hunnic tribes split and went there separate ways, 1 tribe went east and battled Chinese imperial forces along the grandios Great Wall, another tribe moved south and ravaged Siam, Burma before entering Northern India known as the Hepthalites and they settled in the Rajput province.
Another numerous tribe went due west led by Ruah and by 370AD, having enslaved the Allans a nomadic tribe in modern day Georgia, increasing the Hunnic fighting forces to almost 25,000 personel including horse warriors with bow and arrow, that the Huns had mastered as steppe nomads in their wanderings.
With their King Ruah passing away during a enduring and heavy than usual drinking session, control of the Hunnic forces passed onto the two succeeding sons, Bleddha and Atilla in 373AD. It was in the same year that Ostrogothic scouts had first dealings with the Hunns and out of 5 emissaries only 2 came back to the Ostrogothic court of Ermanaric to state that the Hunns were enmassing for an invasion.
Ermanaric shortly thereafter rode out with 14,000 of his best fighting men to battle the Hunns on the banks of the Volga. Here at a battle between foot-soldiers and archery mastered Hunnic steppe warriors, overwhelmingly the Hunns won over a force of ill prepared Ostrogoths. Ermanaric was slain during the battle and the minimal soldiers who escaped the onslaught of a angry Hunnic mentality brought panic to the humble and the remnants of the Ostrogoths fled into the Visigothic kingdom of Frumeric where the Visigoths witnessed the ever rising threat of the Hunns.
And still the Hunns advanced toward the hastily arranged army of 9,000 goths with ballistas and 2,000 horse warriors.
The year was 374AD......the kingdom of the Visigoths were shattering as the Ostrogothic kingdom had dissolved. And Frumeric made a fateful decision that would forever change his only son's future Vigilderic.........

Talisman
Vigilderic was a man just out of adolescence, 19 years of age. As the young man looked over the town of Odessa on the shores of the Black Sea, on horseback, he knew he overlooked the great capital of his people and the heart and core of the Visigoths.
He was filled with waves of pride and honour, as he gazed upon the royal standards of the ruling royal family, the Amalasuintha's, blowing erect on the brisk steppe breeze.
The young boy, in line for the throne for his father was Frumeric, was known for his bravery, honour and courage, but most of all, for his prediction which he called, the Talisman prophecy.
He always remembered the dream, in which, the Talisman first appeared, proclaiming the glorious future the Visigoths. The young boy knew, he would play the biggest part of the Talisman Prophecy. His dream revealed to him he would soon meet a woman not of Visigothic blood but who he would love and treasure and begin a new future.
The young man, took hold of his long sword, and clutched it in the air, and exclaimed;
"I shalt lead my people, I shalt conquer in the name of thy people and shalt forever make my enemies tremble in the name of the Talisman!"
The man shouted aloud, and as he did, he threw the sword downwards into the soft ground. The sword thrust halfway into the ground and hung hilt up from the ground.
The double headed eagle gleamed brightly in the setting sun.
